The Louisiana Thread: Flarefox Forever - We are alive.

I hate to inform that Get Hype is canceled this month. Our venue is booked for all August and our fallback which would have been Chuck's wasn't able to accommodate us this time around. However, in light of canceling, we do have the September Get Hype booked. September 21st.
Also for when we get to October, if I can manage to, my plan is to cancel the October Get Hype, and just host Voodoo Smash on the Bayou in its place the following week. Reason being, October Get Hype is the weekend of WHOBO 5 so I know nobody will show to Get Hype that weekend.
And yeah, I went to Open world with Bman and Jnig tonight, I live 10 minutes away from it. Had some fun, though my weakness of playing noob players was really exploited. Still came in 4th. Could have beat the "best guy" there but I couldn't get my act together in time. Noob players just don't play logically, so it throws me off. But it's cool, I had fun, I'm still going to go back more this year, and I'll hold 1st place down when Bman and Jnig aren't around. I know with Open World being around, I'll bring some (or try to) new blood into the scene. Some of the guys actually aren't bad per say, they really would just need to play competitive to really building their potential.
That's all I have to say for now.
PS- Gonna win me some money at Whobo 5. Y'all get ready.

Yeah, it was pretty fun, I'd say the crowd was pretty shocked that their champion was defeated so viciously. I wanted to talk with him after the tourney about smashboards and whatnot, but he and most of the other entrants left after he was defeated, if not before. Hopefully some of these guys are willing to take the beatings to get better, I would love to show them how the game is really played. The salt was definitely there though.

Little late to the party, but BRM#6 was great. Ran smooth enough, definitely a good turnout. Took BSP to last game/last stock, but gunner quickly put me down. Definitely going to keep coming out though. Shoutout to Bman for being super chill.

Check the bracket before the event starts, and try to make sure that it makes sense. When it doesn't, suggest improvements. Don't just squander your chance to do this by playing a ton of friendlies before the event. ;d

Woah lets not get crazy over a one time thing here. I've all ready said this and I really hate to say it again but the Bracket was my fault. I didn't listen to anyone when people spoke up and I was handling way too many variables about running the event with my brother (Teaching him other hands on things )to recognize the potential disaster before it was too late.
Now the schedule I setup worked perfectly. Putting events later in the day makes you lazy bums actually have a chance to show instead of the 12:00 o clock usual Brawl BRM tourney. Melee is later in the day so Taylor can pull his usual group as well making it easier to make it to for all.
We even had a group for N64 from Lafayette who said they will be coming back and enjoyed the event greatly.
I've suggested to my brother to stick with the schedule. Hes looking at a bunch of ways he might want to run the tourney currently. I told him everyone has their own style and not to ever replicate what I did for the brawl bracket.
I hope you all will help him mold into a great TO as he is very excited to get started and make this thing bigger and better for you all. Hes a great sport for taking on such a task without knowing much of the communities outside of N64 personally.
Again I apologize for the mistake with the Brawl bracket it won't happen again. I will from now on be in Hattisburg starting a new event. I will be focusing 100% of my time on MS's development from here on out. I hope you guys can make it out sometime to see the events I'll be developing. While I'm there you'll have the chance to personally show Jwulf (My bro) some more of the ropes for running the BRM while I'm away. I appreciate the support guys as always.

3) Because of Whobo 5, I'm canceling October's Get Hype, and instead we will proceed with Voodoo Smash on the Bayou. I'm going to get with Coscino's owner soon and ask if October 26th (which is when it's scheduled for) is an open date. If I'm unable to secure the venue, then we will have it at the Chinese Inn like we've traditionally had it.

So i assume everyone knows how crews work but ill do a short explanation anyway. for draft crews (which is what we do) the first and second place players will be team captains. second place gets to pick first team member and goes back and forth until everyone is on a team. then lets say each team has 8 players. each player will have 3 stocks and you decide what character each player is playing ahead of time (normally), write it down along with who will be playing first for either side. they both play and who ever wins stays on the tv. the losing team will send out their next team member to fight the previous winner who has to start with how ever many stocks he had left at the end of the game (and at 0% no matter what his percent was). characters are locked in before the tournament starts, but the new player coming in has the option to counter pick the previous player, but then the previous player is allowed to change characters. if the opt not to counter pick then they strike down to a stage and they must play their predetermined characters. then you play until a team has no stocks left.
so thats great! crews are super fun. everyone stands around and talks **** to make more hype.
now here's the special part.
let's say once again there are 8 man teams. thats 16 players total. there are 26 characters in melee. so out of the gate, top 8 cannot be played. no fox falco jiggs shiek marth peach c.falc and ice climbers. now there are only 18 left.
in this format, the only players that will be character locked are the first two players. lets say they both pic doc (as he is the next highest tier character). this is the only time in the tournament a character is allowed to be played more than once. after game one doc is not allowed to be played again. you must choose from the remaining characters. it will continue as normal crews until one crew is out of stocks but it adds some interesting strategies. you can steal low tiers that you know the other team is good with (because like i said, they can only be played once.) among other things. if the crews have more than 16 players total one character will be allowed to be played per additional person. aka 17 players total, iceclimbers are added to the roster. 19 total c falc peach and ice get added. ect.
we did this about 5 years ago and it was super fun. practice your low tiers guys. and learn what everyone else plays so you can try and make sure they dont get their best characters.

As you already know, I'm not a big fan of that cuz *** low tiers. But I have no choice if others agree. BUT WHAT IF!! we did something different and put a little piece of paper with every character into a hat or box or whatever, shook it, and each person draws a piece of paper blindly when its their turn to play in the crew battle. Shtt would be awesome.

the problem with that is one crew could get totally ****ed and not get anyone they play and just get *****. at least being able to pick makes it more fair, even if youre playing bad characters. its a ton of fun i promise. but i plan on doing something different at each shrimp so if you dont like it, dont worry. it will change for next time.

So I'm probably still about a month(ish) or so out from moving back to new orleans permanently, but the season over here is slowing down at my job (and this week was fairly lousy in particular) so I'm starting to think about making plans and such. Is anyone here in the general NO area going to be looking for a roommate in the semi-near future, or know someone cool (by which I mean fairly mature/trustworthy/hygenic/etc) that might be looking for one? Tentatively thinking about moving early/mid september, though I'm nowhere near having a hard date in mind. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone knows anyone looking for a roommate.

Apparently starting this week, Open World has moved their Smash tournies to Tuesdays, so no more tournies on Sundays... I guess I'll have to get lucky that I get off work somewhat early on Tuesdays if I hope to make these anymore.
