Not sure at the moment. The Spirit Event has every right to be their death knell (as is usually the case with Spirit Events themed around a not-yet-represented game in Smash), but the SwSh Spirit Event used a grand total of 7/81* Galarian Pokémon: Grookey, Scorbunny, Sobble, Corviknight, Morpeko, Zacian, and Zamazenta. How are the chances of a new Pokémon joining?
oh joy, a meme where they cant even get the serotype rightThere was a problem fetching the tweetGloria's been confirmed for real (with Zacian as part of her Sync Pair, no less), and OH MY GOD I DIDN'T THINK WE'D AT LEAST BE CLOSE TO HAVING A SCOTTISH ACCENT BE CANON

Depends on who you ask. Everyone has a different opinion, and a lot of people interpret the Spirit Event differently. Some believe it could’ve been made for the sole purpose of promoting SwSh with very little consideration about future representation in Smash. Some people believe SwSh could still be a part of the DLC, but that Sakurai purposely chose specific Pokémon as Spirits because he knew they wouldn't be playable. Others think Pokémon was deconfirmed the second the event was announced. How are the chances of a new Pokémon joining?
its also quite tricky to judge casue this is the first time weve had a new gen come out during a smash dlc cycleDepends on who you ask. I think a SwSh Pokémon is more likely than most of the other first-parties brought up, but there's plenty of other opinions out there besides mine.

Was it?well the entire scottish accent meme was kinda offensive.

So you're saying it's racist because the accent wasn't the most scottish it could've been.because she had an English accent
no I was saying the meme was racist. So you're saying it's racist because the accent wasn't the most scottish it could've been.
Turns out the teaser meant exactly what we thought it would. While this has next to no direct effect on plans for Smash since it's just a mobile spinoff that isn't even developed in-house, it does say something that they used Zacian to introduce the Galar region and not a starter. Further shows just how prominent this generation's key legendaries are, and why they're absolutely worth considering as possible newcomers. There was a problem fetching the tweetGloria's been confirmed for real (with Zacian as part of her Sync Pair, no less), and OH MY GOD I DIDN'T THINK WE'D AT LEAST BE CLOSE TO HAVING A SCOTTISH ACCENT BE CANON

Probably pretty good? Depends on how you look at it and what you're looking at, I suppose. As the others mentioned, we've never had a new generation launch while Smash DLC was going on before. How are the chances of a new Pokémon joining?
There'll probably be a Pokémon Direct in January that reveals the next mainline game(s), among other things. It's starting:

Can't wait for February, which is when we'll most likely get info on their plans for 2021. Any hopes?
I feel like if Victor doesn’t get a starter in his default, him and Gloria will get a Sygna alt paired with one of starters in the future, kinda like what they did with Blue and LeafWonder how they'll handle the other main characters, though? Victor with Scorbunny or a different starter? Hop with Zamazenta as his default and Dubwool with his Sygna alt? Or the other way around?
Bede would get Hatterene. It'd feel weird if Gloria got a Legendary and Victor got stuck with Scorbunny or some other starter. A bit of an injustice if you ask me.
Hop would probably get Wooloo if he doesn't get Zamazenta. Morpeko for Marnie, Yamper for Sonia, and I'm not really sure who Bede would get. Leon probably won't get Charizard, so he's a bit of a wild card.
Bede would depend on whether Masters gets weird with him or not. If they stick to signature 'mons, he'd have Hatterene. But he could also end up with Galarian Rapidash or some other Psychic or Fairy type native to Galar.Hop would probably get Wooloo if he doesn't get Zamazenta. Morpeko for Marnie, Yamper for Sonia, and I'm not really sure who Bede would get. Leon probably won't get Charizard, so he's a bit of a wild card.
Yes I see! A Pokemon always has good chances to join!Don't mind me, just catching up on posts I keep putting off replying to.

That said, I do think the odds are pretty good right now. Pokémon continues to be one of the most recognized franchises in all of gaming, so anyone from Sword & Shield would be well known. Pokémon characters also (usually) have unique elemental powers and other abilities that are rare-to-nonexistent on the Smash roster, so it's also easy to pick one that'll look interesting to play as.
The Spirit Event late last year...raises questions, but I believe it was set up last summer while talk of doing a second season of DLC had only just gotten serious. It was arranged at a point where they didn't know if they'd get a chance to bring in a Gen 8 newcomer. And if the way the past couple new 'mons were handled is any precedent, if we are getting a Gen 8 newcomer then they probably stuck a placeholder into the project plan for them to narrow down later on when it was about time to start developing the fighter. Meaning that when that Spirit Event went live, they wouldn't have chosen who from Galar they wanted yet! And as we saw with Min Min, they're totally fine with making someone playable even if they already have a spirit.

I know right, and I often find myself thinking that "this Pokémon would fit this trainer" and then bam, a Sync Pair with not-the-most logical choice of a pairing arrives. Which is why I wouldn't be surprised if Victor does just get a starter while Gloria got a legendary. As for Leon, if some sort of Dynamax-feature is added, I could still see him get a Charizard (the player character can have duplicates of so many existing sync pair Pokémon already), or then he'll just get a Dragapult or something. Some of the Pokémon choices in this game are...questionable.
Exhibit A: Calum.
really?Anyway, I still enjoy the game
Yes.really?
My bets on Aegislash.I feel like if Victor doesn’t get a starter in his default, him and Gloria will get a Sygna alt paired with one of starters in the future, kinda like what they did with Blue and Leaf
Also wondering who Leon’s gonna get since Red has Charizard
to each their ownYes.
id guess so tooMy bets on Aegislash.
It's a great picture, but people always forget how tall certain Pokémon actually are.Art of Gloria and her sword doggy, featuring Steven and Mallow

size inconsistency is a regular thing in pokemonIt's a great picture, but people always forget how tall certain Pokémon actually are.
Here Gloria is about the same height as Zacian when on her knees. That means this Zacian is close to the size of a real-life dog when it should be noticeablely taller than most humans.
Zacian is over nine feet tall.
I'll just laugh a bit when Jeff Keiley says "Pokémon Cafe Mix" again during best mobile game nominees. It's just not something I'm used to: Pokémon and The Game Awards are 2 things I never thought would be together (and I'm a bit rubbed off that Among Us is even nominated: a 2018 game in a 2020 awards show).
So, The Game Awards is just a couple days away. Any game announcements you guys hoping to see? Doubt there'd be anything Pokémon-related since TPC likes to announce stuff on their own terms, but hey.
Meanwhile, this was a thing a few days back:

Neat.
Apparently Jeff Keiley mentioned that there's 12 new announcements about games that haven't leaked as far as he knows, so at least some update from anything Nintendo is possible.Setting likelihood aside, a Smash announcement would obviously be cool. It'd be even cooler though if we got a reveal trailer for a new unannounced game, but that's probably not happening if the previous TGA announcements are anything to look at.
For now, I don't expect anything except maybe a small New Horizons trailer since it's up for Game of the Year.
