One guy made a bet with me about the Brawl's roster after it had already released in Japan. I know it wasn't terribly ethical to take that bet, but I was in college and I needed that $10.

****, I still need $10. Who wants to make a bet on Brawl's roster? >_>

Honestly the show gets spoiled immediately in this thread. Not sure why it should be an exception today.

So what happens now? My guess is that Korra will restore bending back to those that lost it and that Hiroshi is going to be the main villain of the next season since it looks like both Tarrlok and Noatok are both dead (and what a way to go).

AND Y MAKORRA?!

This episode was a little disappointing for me.

[COLLAPSE="Spoilers"]I was expecting Amon to be able to bend water, and I had a suspicion he was related to Yakone. But I was really hopeful that he truly could bend energy. Instead, they turned him into kind of a *****. They took the show's greatest villain and gave him a terrible sendoff.

I also didn't like that Amon could take away bending by bloodbending. That kind of took my suspension of disbelief too far. Also, Korra giving everyone back their bending was really lame.

And the profession of Mako's love for Korra, and Korra's love for Mako, was terrible and made very little sense. **** Mako. Bolin is a thousand times better.[/COLLAPSE]

my guess is that book 2 will start with her restoring bending. I think Hiroshi will be coming back, and Asami may be making a change as a character.

As for the episode, the ending was a bit spoonfed, I actually liked how Amon and Tarlock went out. It was nice, and I was beginning to see that their bond as brothers hadn't left. When they went boom i actually was like Holy **** lol and i felt a bit sad. I nearly had a tear when Lin got her bending back haha. I think it could have longer, a better fight scene between Korra and Amon would have been nicer.

I'm also a bit disappointed at the ending. There's nothing for us to go on now besides the inventor family, but at the same time, we also expected another book at the end of Avatar's book 3 when Zuko finally met face-to-face with his dad. I expected a loose ending for them to build upon to follow up in the current story arc, guess I didn't get what I wished for.

The way Amon and Tarrlok died though, that was actually a very satisfying ending. I wanted Tarrlok to have a happier ending though after seeing his past, but this was good too.

Also, kind of iffy about Korra being able to air-bend when all her bending was locked away. Did Amon only lock certain elements in people? If so, that just screams plan failure, especially when he didn't even lock ALL of the Avatar's elements. Kind of leads into what also got me disappointed about Amon, about how he ruined everything for himself by bending water in public, instead of being the cunning equalist he's always been and simply bending until he was near the surface, then keeping on pretending he was a non-bender and getting the town to REALLY hate benders (or at least, pretend to be dead for a bit and let the town revolt, then reappear a few days later saying how he "narrowly escaped death by the oppressing benders" or something). That would've been a very smart and improvised twist to his now-falling-apart plan, and it would've kept things interesting now that one of his higher-ranked equalists saw him blood-bending. He could've made his plan go on a worldwide scale after that if he so chose to, which would've been a very satisfying segue into season 2.

Then again it was only a one-hour special. It's not like it's the series finale or anything, it's just a season-finale. But comparing it to Avatar: The Last Airbender's season finales, where there were always loose ends and obvious things to look forward to, this season seemed to have patched up just about everything. Korra now knows all the elements and can go avatar-state at will from the looks of things in the end, what else is there to do?

Season 2 orginally wasn't planned iirc and so i guess they decided not to change season 1 too greatly just to make a cliffhanger into season 2. Now we can just sit in anticipation on what it will be about instead of making 17374929272628 speculations on what will happen in season 2

[Collapse="Spoilers"]I was also just really disappointed that they trivialized Amon with his backstory. A gimmick to remove bending like this would be perfectly fine for a three-episode arc. But for the season finale, having built up this ability for an entire season? Lame.

They also failed to explain how Korra became "spiritual" after Amon took her bending away. What exactly happened? She saw Mako about to lose his bending and decided "now might be a good time to become religious?" But, with the way the episode was paced, this is more fridge logic than a serious problem.

I did really enjoy Iroh's scene. That was some badassery.

But seriously, Amon is the show's greatest villain, save for maybe Azula, and they really trivialized him. His actual death at the end was nice and poetic, but the way they explained his backstory, trivialized his ability to take bending away, and then gave him a silly berserk button, all really just left a bad taste in my mouth. [/collapse]

Religious != Spiritual

Sorry, I just had to say that since I consider myself spiritual, but by no means religious.

I was just making a joke. I know that there's a sort of difference.

Though Daniel Tosh sums it up nicely:

You ever hear girls say that? "I'm not religious, but I'm spiritual." I like to reply with "I'm not honest, but you're interesting!"

Again, just making a joke. Sort of.

I'd give it a 8.5 simply because we have no idea what to expect for season 2. No cliffhanger at all. I didn't want to see Amon go either. Seeing him get exposed pretty much sealed his chances of coming back.

Well as Avatar Aang loosely put it...

When we are pushed to our limits...forgot the rest LOL

But yeah, the airbending did sound a bit...I knew it was coming, but I guess I was over expecting for Korra to become calm and collective in such a franatic moment.

Props to Mako for standing up to blood bending.

I just hate Amon more given his backstory. If his made up story was true, I would have more sympathy. This was just pathetic.

I'm also curious to see where they are gonna take the story. That interview Bolin's VA had with IGN said something about becoming older. We might have a time skip?

I wanted more resolution than cliffhanger, but this seemed like 100% resolution lol.

Final note, interesting that the romance between Mako and Korra has been established now. I wonder if Season 2 is gonna be all good between them or if there is gonna be "drama"

Amon's ability to take away other peoples bending was going to be trivialized anyways because Korra would be able to return bending with energy bending. It may not have been said anywhere, but it would have been stupid if she couldn't. :/

I like Amon being a blood bender and I like how it connects Tarrlok's character to the story beyond him just taking advantage of the chaos in order to take control of the city. They could have probably hinted at this reveal in previous episodes or something though instead of it feeling like a last minute addition, and even though I don't normally care about parings, Mako and Korra was predictable and annoying.

But I liked it overall.

I think the writers decided to not change their original plan for season 1. That's my take

also, Amon resisted blood bending so they were clueing into it as a good way to stop something is to know how to it in the first place. So he probably did bloodbend himself LOL

Kind of how Katara was able to resist Hama, I'm sure Amon, being the better bloodbender, was able to resist Tarrlok.

He could've been protected by the spirits, if he really did get his power from the spirits. It would've been so much more interesting if Amon alone really did receive a power above bending from the spirits. Thinking about how that would've changed the story, and how the spirits would've played a bigger part in the series to deepen the plot even further, sounds like it would've been a much more enjoyable story.

However, I will be very pleased with this ending if Amon somehow survived the boat explosion, gotten scarred due to the heat, and the spirits recognized his plight to end bending due to how it's been leading to suffering and destruction and THEN actually gave him the power to stop bending. He would come back to Republic City and play off his previous display of waterbending as 'benders trying to bring him down by setting him up'.

Hiroshi for father of the year.

Btw, speaking of him. Remember when he called Mako a street rat? Wasn't Hiroshi himself one or close to it? If I remember, he said he started off as a low level employee and moved his way up. You figure he would be able to relate somewhat lol.

Yeah, that was the only hint that we were given iirc, that and maybe the fact that no one would try and resist right before Amon took their bending away. :/

That finale was just fantastic.

I'm really excited to see what season 2 will have in store. It'll be nice to have a story developed around a fully realized avatar.
