Revocation is done by talking to the Jack of Alltrades post-game. He'll give you a choice whether to simply change classes or revocate. Pick the second option and it should be self explanatory.

There are two reasons to revocate: it gets you higher quality grottoes, adding 5 x N where N = the number of revocations on the class with the most revocations on it (IE if I revocated my Ranger 3 times and my Thief twice, it only counts the 3 for the Ranger. If I revocate Thief twice more, it'll count the 4 from the Thief, but no longer count the 3 from the Ranger that it used to before) to the grotto quality sum. The first revocation also gets you a special item that you can only get from revocating a class. The Ranger gets a medal that increases his deftness by 100 when he revocates for the first time. All of the revocation items are pretty good.

That's about all there is to it.

Well, last I saw TH, he had a lvl 98 ranger, and JC's palidin was 97, which means TH probably has revocated by now, and JC will have revocated by the next time you meet him.

I'm at lvl 82. :(

A little of both really. I read up on it slightly before when I was doing research on how to get high quality grottoes and a bit about the item you get on revocation on a thread discussing the effect of deftness, which at the time was unknown (one of the variables in said experiment was the Ranger revocation medal). However today I just reached level 99 on my Ranger. JCz is about a level or two beow me, so he won't be too far away from hitting level 99 as well. Kaiser is about 20 some levels below us iirc. Quinnydinny just got the game yesterday, and is currently a level 45ish Gladiator after hanging with us for a bit.

I want to wait till I get my Thief 10-20 levels higher before I revocate my Ranger so that I have a good high level back up class to roll if I need to run through a grotto or a legacy boss. It'll be nice to have when my Ranger is less than half the level of the rest of the party.

@ Kaiser: I reached 99 right before you guys left. When we came out of the last grotto we did, I only needed ~5000 exp more to level up. So I just fought two random enemies for ~3k a piece and voila. Level 99 Ranger.

So that's how you get those medals. I was wondering. Are they accessories, or items that function from your inventory like the scrolls?

just got mine, its an accessory which is kinda gay but oh well.

on the positive side i got a saphire grotto with excalipurr as a boss, first time i beat him he dropped the victorious armor and i stole the tactical vest with thief scroll, no hoimi table necessary.

The fact that it's accessory is a weight off my shoulders actually. The Metorite Bracer doesn't do **** for me since I'm already faster than most classes with Meteorite Bracers, and the runner up for stat-boosting accessories is the Mighty Bracer, which only bumps up strength by 20. The Goddess Ring will be missed, but after I run through all the magic user trees, I should have 300+ MP, which combined with the Sage's 25% off, it should be enough to get me through even the longest dungeons.

Once I run through the Arma tree and give my guy the Arma scroll, my inventory will be completely full, so it'd suck to miss out on the medals.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/937281-dragon-quest-ix-sentinels-of-the-starry-skies/55742205. All of the revocation items.

I have to say, I'd give up the Catholican Ring for some of those. The Gladiator one seems really great depending on how much it bumps up crits, as does the Arma's item. Thief's and Ranger's seem good too. And if you're really jonesing for agility, MA's item > Meteorite Bracer.

And of course the Minstrel item is by far the best one.

I dunno how you can say that. Meteorite Bracer, Catholicon Ring, Goddess Ring, and some other accessories are all crazy good. A lot of the scrolls are borderline useless. Let's see...

Armamentalist's Album - Focuses fource of the whole party.
Good.

Gladiator's Guide - Sometimes allows 2 hits per turn.
Garbage. Just doesn't take effect often enough to be useful.

Luminary's Lore - Gold Rush/ 0 MP/ Spend 1,000 gold to deal a large amount of damage.
I've heard this one is really good but I don't have it yet.

Mage's Manual - Weakening Wave ability/costs 8 MP/ Weakens all enemies.
Meh.

Martial Artist's Manual - Gives the ability to hold Tension between battles.
Meh.

Minstrel's Manual - Gritty Ditty/ 16 MP/ Increases all allies attack.
Good but situational.

Paladin's Primer - Solar Flair/ 30 MP/ Engulfs a group of enemies.
Good but situational.

Priest's Primer - Wave of Relief ability/costs 10 MP/ Removes most ailments from all allies.
Good but situational.

Ranger's Revelations - May give critical hits when in trouble... low HP.
Garbage. Only good for completing certain quests.

Sage's Scripture - Twocus Pocus/ 10 MP/ Makes it possible to cast 2 spells per turn.
Very good.

Thief's Theory - Constant ability to steal.
Good.

Warrior's Workbook - Allows a counter-attack when attacked.
Garbage. Just doesn't take effect often enough to be useful.

Shield: Secrets of the Shield - Guard against criticals.
Full immunity to crits? By far the best scroll.

Weapon scrolls - Most of them aren't that useful.

Most of the medals are stat increases that have a real measureable effect. I would easily take most of these over a good portion of the scrolls. I'd take +20 attack over the gladiator scroll, because doing extra damage with every attack would be so much better than getting one extra poke every 30 battles or so.

Buuuut that's neither here nor there, since medals are accessories. Dammit. I can't imagine I'd use any of them over a Catholicon Ring. Well, at least on my Paladin, since my other characters don't need any resistances.

I do like how the Minstrel medal basically confirms that it's a homo class though

I made out with a girl.

+5000xp

I have nothing more to contribute. Continue with DQ9 gibberish.

Even as an RPG fan, this thread makes my head hurt. Must be an awesome game though.

It's okay. Even if I did have a DS, between all my real world stuff (baseball manager, possibly becoming president of the league, buying a house, working out, girlfriend, my dog, sleeping, etc) I wouldn't be able to keep up with you guys at all. I haven't played my XBox in like 2 months.

Oh yeah, and Chris and Kristen are now engaged.

(And this **** sinus infection, which was going away, seems to be hinting that I might be coming down with the flu. Headaches, chills, and body aches... yay!)

That sounds like an Uncommon Cold.

Ohohoho DQ punz

But yeah, this is definitely the type of game that you could become so obsessed with that you could flunk out of school and stuff. I wasn't joking when I said Count Kaiser should leave his DS with me so he doesn't get distracted from his studies.

Chris^2 are getting married? Good ****!

I knew you'd like that.

Want to know another fun fact about Vail, Colorado? It was home to one of Ted Bundy's most known murders as it was one of the few he confessed to in detail while in prison.

Sounds like a dream vacation.

Certain pieces look pretty goofy or dumb (I'm looking at you, Happy Hat and Ice Axe, and don't get me started on the Transparent Pants), but in general, I think the high level gear looks pretty ballin.

Not to mention how you still take like 100 damage from hits that can't even scratch me :p Especially now after you revocated, you don't have the high stats to make up for your lack of decent gear. You're gonna get wrecked until you level back up again.

1. You're a Paladin. You're going to inherently have way more HP and defense than I do as a Ranger, no matter what armor I wear. 2. You've probably already gathered most if not all of the defense and HP boosts. Besides some minor ones while running through the Warrior/Thief/Ranger? skill tree, I haven't gotten any. 3. The armor that the Paladin can wear iirc far outstrips that which the Ranger can wear. Rangers can probably get some half-decent armor, but alot of the really heavy stuff is restricted to certain classes (Rangers can't wear the Catropic armor or Edrick's armor for example).

Despite all this, you have a point that I'll be very vulnerable while I re-level up, but that's why I said I was going to wait till I level up the Thief a bit before I revocate so that I can have a solid back up class until my Ranger gets to proper levels. Both work essentially the same, and though I lose out on Moreheal and Insulatle (which I will really miss btw :( ) as well as slightly inferior stats, but I trade that out for a great Coup De Grace, more agility and defense, and between the Fources and Gritty Diddy, I can still support the team fairly well.

th just accept that your character would die to a slightly strong breeze. and the victorious armor looks tight as hell, specially with the hallowed helm which looks just like zero's helm from mmx

Hey man relax, it's all good as long as we're having fun. Besides, with my bad*** brick wall of a paladin, you could pretty much run around naked and it wouldn't hurt the team :p

It's better than playing "optimally" anyway. If we wanted to be the best team possible, we'd all be gladiators with UFBs. Ew. Uber Falcon Blades pretty much tainted the entire sword tree for me. I wouldn't have a problem with it if the ultimate sword was the most powerful, but no, some random sword that you can get well before the post-game and isn't that hard to make ends up being the most powerful weapon in the game? **** that jazz, and **** swords, they can eat d1cks.

Back on topic: Don't you have like 3 tropotogas? They're like ... ridiculously good, and the ranger's ultimate armor.

No, I'm just mad because every ultimate weapon of every class, including the ultimate sword, pales in comparison to a mid-level sword. That's called poor game design. It's also known as "Metaknight" in Brawlese.

Cool, see ya on Wednesday.

I can't really see someone like this

wearing this

Might just be me though :p

Also am I the only one who reads the title of the U.F.B crew thread and immediately thinks "Uber Falcon Blade Crew"?

Cause I can't unsee that now.

EDIT: On the subject of UFB, it would be fine if it didn't stack with the Falcon Slash ability and worked pretty much like FKE. Or even if there was only one UFB in the game (the one that comes from the chest) and wasn't purchasable. But it does stack with UFB and it is purchasable so bleh. Sucks that there has to be one weapon to outclass every single other weapon in a game about player customization.
