I like them when they were at their prime. Still Life and Blackwater Park were honestly the only two albums I ever took the time to really get into.

You should listen to maudlin of the Well - Bath. Suuper good album.

Oh yeah, get Loveless too. Any other bands you like?

pj, I love you <3

That was one of my favorite songs as a lil kid, instead of being scared of the video I laughed throughout it the entire time.

I just love the diversity each of their albums has. Watershed was pretty weak besides Lotus Eater, but besides that, I think each of their albums has something to like. Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries are probably my two favorites, followed by Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse.

I'll be sure to check those out.

I mostly used to listen to death/black metal like Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Abigail Williams, Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, those bands. Lately, I've been more into progressive. I've always liked Opeth, but I'm getting more into Porcupine Tree, Animals as Leaders(check them out, instrumental prog), I'm giving Dream Theater a second chance, and even getting back into Rush.

Oh my God I loveee Porcupine Tree. Don't give Dream Theater a second chance, overated imo. Rush is bad - don't get into them.

Children of Bodom is alright, you should get into Agalloch really good death metal band.

Are you like metal exclusive or are you willing to try more genres?

Porcupine Tree: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIM5M6FmnmY

^(this is more of their light stuff, because I prefer that in Metal.. but they go really dark in certain songs so don't back away if your into that kind of stuff).

I'll listen to anything, really. I don't really like rap, or hip-hop much, but besides those, I'm open for anything. Hell, half of my iPod is metal/prog, the other half is J-pop and techno, haha.

If you've ever heard of Kalmah, I've always thought they were a better Bodom, I just used Bodom as an example. If you're into melodic death metal, definitely check out Edge of Sanity. I've only heard two of their CD's, Crimson and Crimson II, but they're two of the best melodeath CDs I've ever heard.

Here's my favorite song by them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4aJa87-wDA

I love Trains, it's definitely my favorite Porcupine Tree song. It's so good. Luckily one of my friends has all of their CD's, so I was able to get their entire discography already.

Listening to the Maudlin song, it's pretty good so far.

Edge of Sanity seems really good. I'm not a big fan of this kind of metal though.

If you're open to anything - I have to suggest what I already did (Maudlin of the Well and In Absentia by Porcupine Tree), but I also want to recommend Radiohead - OK Computer, My Bloody Valentine - Loveless, and Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue.

All three are classic albums that need to be heard by any music lover of any genre.

Kind of Blue is the easiest to get into.
Then OK Computer
Loveless is ******** hard to understand.

Here are some reviews I've written on 2/3 of them. Kind Of Blue should be released next week.

Here's my review on OK Computer (written on Allisbrawl):

Illmatic Recommends You An Album #1

Hey, I'm Illmatic! I'm mostly known around here for being a Peach main but today (and hopefully in the future) I want to address a subject I feel as though a large amount of smash players are unfamiliar with: music. In the following blog I will review "classic" albums that I have interest in, and I hope that you eventually will to! This is my first blog of the series, so it's a work in progress - if you have any suggestions or albums that you want to be reviewed feel free to drop me a shoutout via my page or you can always drop me a private message. I will listen to the album, research it, and if I like it - I will definitely review it.

Faced with the decision of choosing the first album to review, a multitude of questions arose, "What album can appeal the most to my audience?", "Which album has a good amount of accessibility?", but ultimately I came to the conclusion that whatever album I feel as though would work... would work! So without further ado, I present one of my most favorite albums of all time:

Radiohead's: OK Computer

What dubs an album the title "Classic"? Is it the popularity of an album? The quality of the music? The rank it achieves on a chart? I tend to believe it is none of the previous statements but moreso the feeling the albums delivers to it's audience. All of the accelerandos, harmonies, melodies, etc etc leading up to a climax of a song - that feeling you get when you can truly relate to whatever the musician is trying to convey. Before this album, I would like to say I felt that.. but I wouldn't be truthful. I tried to believe whatever I heard on the radio, or something that my friends suggested to me was great, but I never truly felt that way. Radiohead's OK Computer completely changed that for me. Have you ever had that feeling that you have discovered something that is truly incredible? A movie, a book, a game, any form of media that blows you away - and you want everyone to know about it? This is how I felt after understand Radiohead's masterpiece. I frantically ran to everyone asking them have you heard of this album? No? You should definitely take a listen! Of course, no one ever remotely gave it a chance and forgot about it whenever they sat on the chair in front of their computer screen or walked into the front doors of their nearest outlet mall. There are two very important rules when recommending music that I have recently learned.

-1. You can never try to force someone to listen to anything (they probably will not like it).

-2. Listening to an artist in a group for the first time is generally a bad idea.

It's rare to run into anyone these days that has the same musical taste in me these days. I can only find them behind avatars on forums or websites. So that's basically why I decided to write this blog for allisbrawl. I'm requesting that you - yes, YOU - the person that is sitting in front of your computer screen right now to check out this band and album after reading this review. Hopefully more people can learn about it and we can meet up some day and talk about it.

"You mean that same band that has that song - Creep"? Yes.... Radiohead created the song Creep. That was the beginning of their career and it isn't comparable to this album as a whole. So before you disregard anything I tell you about this album please do not bring Creep into your mind when you decide whether or not to get the album. OK Computer doesn't compare to Pablo Honey (the album Creep was on) in any way whatsoever. Thom Yorke and the members of his band were at their prime when they created this album - and it shows.

Music Review

The album is introduced with a heavy bass that repeats throughout the song. Congratulations, you are now listening to Airbag, a song about the feeling of getting out of a car safely after an accident, a theme very dear to Thom Yorke who once admitted he is very conscious of the dangers of getting in a car, and is amazed that more people do not feel the same way. It has a complex theme and can possibly throw listeners off within the first listen, but upon repeated attempts you truly understand what the musicians are trying to pull off and you become hooked.

Next comes my personal favorite, Paranoid Android which some claim to be a modern day Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. It's all over the place (similar to Bohemian) and it elicits a great range of emotions from it's listeners. It also contains some of the best lyrics in the entire album, "In an interstellar burst, I'm back to save the universe." some believe he is hinting that despite his previous flaws... he's back and here to show the world what he is capable of.

Subterranean Homesick Alien follows and Yorke claims he's been abducted by aliens. "He tells all of his friends, but they don't believe him." the song gives you a very relaxing feeling but for some reason you feel as though the lead singer feels out of place.. as if no one truly believes in him or he can't relate to anyone around him, regardless - it's a great song.

Exit Music (For A Film) is up next and it truly is one of the most calm and beautiful songs on the whole album. It truly depicts Thom Yorke's ability as the lead singer in the band. His voice is marvelous and comforting, the instrumentals accommodate to this in a ghostly manner. The song starts out with Yorke singing acoustic, but as it progresses more instruments start to come in until Yorke climaxes with the repeated line "We hope that you choke" until the music fades out. It's remarkable and definitely one of my favorites.

Let Down proceeds and it is (in my opinion) the most catchy song on the album. The first time I heard it I immediately clicked back on my iPod to replay it. It's extremely upbeat and there are tons of instruments going on everywhere. Thom Yorke's voice is very quick and light. Great song to exercise with.

Karma Police is THE Radiohead song. Chances are, you have probably heard this song a countless number of times before you just have never researched into it. It's simple but extremely catchy, similar to Let Down. The song conveys the a type of, "This is what you will get if you mess with us" theme that York portrays in his lyrics. Basically Yorke believes that there is a group of police officers that punish people based on their past. If you treat people right - the officers will not mess with you. If you act up - the consequences could be dire. The music video is outstanding and you should look it up on youtube if you haven't already.

Fitter Happier is the interlude of the album. It allows you to take a break and just listen to a computer program mocking every day life. It's a bit depressing when you truly take the time to think about what it's talking about, but the song performs it's purpose nonetheless.

Electioneering puts things back in place with a extremely up beat rock song. Great amount of guitar riffs, and repeated choruses. The song has to do with politics although I don't completely understand the point it's trying to convey. Pretty much a rebel song, in my opinion.

Climbing Up The Walls this is the point in the album where you will decide whether or not Yorke and Radiohead are musical geniuses or complete lunatics. The song is (lryically) horrible, with descriptions of people with mental illnesses trying to escape their prison, looking in windows at night, seeing yourself, and believing someone is always watching you - never being able to look into a window again, murder, serial killings, the works basically. The music definitely has the same tone... very choppy and heavy. It could work great in a horror flick... I could imagine someone walking down a dark street with the music in the background about to get ambushed. Creepy song.

No Surprises is the polar opposite of Climbing Up the Walls and truly makes me smile, although the lyrics wouldn't suggest it. It keeps the same upbeat rhythm throughout the song while Yorke's voice is going all over the place. Near the end you truly feel as though the song has accomplished something whatever it is - upon further investigation you will find out that they are trying to take down the government.

Lucky probably one of Radiohead's best songs. In my opinion they make a great song without really... doing anything to be honest. It just flows and works. It may sound weird, but when you listen to it you may agree with me. This song is a prime example of how great Radiohead truly is. I'm not entirely sure what the lyrics are trying to get across.. but I love the song.

The Tourist is the last song on the album and it does not disappoint. It has a similar tone to Lucky but this time much more calm. Yorke is just singing the whole time while a great display of drums accommodate his voice. The song really puts you in a relaxed mood and made my head swirl upon the first listen. Right when you think there is more coming... there isn't and OK Computer leaves you astonished on how quickly the past hour has gone by.

In Conclusion

OK Computer is a remarkable album that everyone needs to hear at least once in their life. If you don't get it the first time, give it another go because to be honest, I hated it the first time I listened to it. It takes a good amount of commitment but when you truly understand it you will never drop it again. It displays Radiohead's prime musicianship while some may argue that Kid A is better (but we may come to that another day xD), I feel as though this album proves it's point more-so than it's following one. Get this!

Accessibility (On a range from 1-10, 10 being the most difficult to get into): 6

Fair enough, it's a pretty hard genre to get into.

Honestly, I don't like Radiohead that much, but I haven't really given them a fair chance. The only song I can remember hearing by them was Creep, but I hated it so much, I never gave the band a chance. You make OK Computer seem good, though, so I'll give it a listen soon. I'm pretty sure my brother has the CD laying around somewhere.

I'll also give Loveless and Kind of Blue a listen soon. I'll let you know what I think about them.

Personally.
I like In Rainbows better.

It's so good.
Ok computer is def high tier though.
LOL

I'm not going to argue with you on whether or not OK Computer is better than In Rainbows because Radiohead is amazing regardless. But I can understand why you think In Rainbows is better. It's much more accessible and has more catchy songs (All That I Need, Nude, House of Cards, Weird Fishes, etc). Give OK Computer another shot - it's not considered the best album of the 90s decade for no reason at all. It's extremely complex and takes repeated listens.

WAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Im sorry, but you dismissed Radiohead after listening to Creep? That was like their first hit song and it is NOTHING compared to what they did later on. I personally, still like the song but to each his own I guess. Give OK Computer a chance, in fact try to listen to all of Radiohead's "big" albums.. one of them you WILL like.. it's a way of life. They are In Rainbows, OK Computer, Kid A, and The Bends.

Oh yeah.. here's my review on Loveless.. YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS OUT

The album I am about to review has a very strange story. $500,000 as well as over four years of time and sweat was invested into the album, yet upon it's release almost no one bought it. When the band decided to perform a concert to get the word out about it over half of the audience walked away from their performance. Initially, this album was condemned by music critics claiming, "It is nothing but noise." Why am I even taking the time to suggest to anyone you ask? In my opinion this album is the best forty-eight minutes and thirty-three seconds of music ever recorded (yes, even surpassing my previous recommendation of Radiohead). It was the staple of the genre and influenced a plethora of bands that followed it, although they could never live up to this album's glory. This album is none other than:

My Bloody Valentine's: Loveless

Before I decided to write this review for this album, I almost didn't. Not because I don't have faith in my taste of music but because I felt as though I could not find words to express this album's mood. Some say it's the feeling of being trapped inside and amplifier, others say it's the feeling of being in love. Personally, I can't express what feeling it gives it's listener but I can tell you this - it's emits the best overall sound I have ever heard after listening to about a couple hundred albums. Never before have I found any album that keeps me in the same mood throughout the listen similar to Loveless. If I could keep this album on repeat throughout my head the rest of my life, I would take the opportunity. Let me heed a warning: this album is immense and definitely not for everyone.

So what exactly is it you ask? Do not let the vicious and somewhat ominous title of the band push you away. This is not "Bullet for my Valentine". The album is not screamo, hardcore, metal, or any genre relating to those types of music. This is shoegaze, which is defined as, "A genre originating in 80s England, now international. Defined by highly distorted guitars, and vocals, usually high-and-breathless or low in the mix, sometimes absent. A psychedelic style, but not "trippy" psychedelic, more a dreamy, distant feel." When observing the album cover of Loveless it almost feels as though Kevin Shields (the founder of the band) was capturing the exact feeling of the album in one picture. A guitar engulfed by a shroud of pink fuzz. The album emits a feeling of sensuality or even sexuality. The band tinkers with droned guitar riffs, an array of instruments, and their voice (which is also used as an instrument) to create this beautiful album. I got this album about a week after understanding Radiohead's OK Computer. This is when I thought I knew everything about music, what was good and what was bad. Hence the word thought - because this album blew me completely away.

The first time I heard this album, I hated it. I did not understand why it was claimed as the one of the best albums of all time and I also did not grasp the concept of anything the band was trying to portray. Upon repeated listens, I came across the same results. It's funny because I was actually upset with myself, I wanted to like it but I couldn't. I feel as though a large amount of people trick themselves into liking a certain band because it's "in" at the moment. A band that come to mind is "The Devil Wears Prada" or any similar emo/screamo band that kids try to relate to because they seem angry. I just wanted to accept Loveless because I read that it was good, not because of anyone else. I would only be ready for it, when it was ready for me. More listens, and I was almost about ready to completely take it off of my iPod. Luckily I didn't, setting it aside I decided to come back to it on a later day.

The "shuffle" option on my iPod allowed me to finally understand the complexity of the album. I think it's a great tool because it can ease you into an album by delivering a song you may not like initially after a song that you have always adored. That's how I understood what was going on with this masterpiece. It was a hot, humid, and loud day on my bus ride home from school (the usual). I was extremely tired because I had watched a ton of One Piece episodes the night before and stayed up far too late. I didn't feel like listening to anyone on the bus so I stuck in my iPod, put it on shuffle, and tried to go to sleep. The first song that played was Miles Davis' So What (which is extremely relaxing), and then I remember My Bloody Valentine's "What You Want" coming on immediately after it. At that exact moment, it clicked. The "noise" that I had always heard before turned into beautiful harmonies. The distortion worked for some strange reason.. and I even felt as if What You Want was better than So What. This was almost impossible to grasp at first, strictly because I was raised on Miles Davis and I practically know every note he hits on his instrument one after the other. But... this song - one that I've always disliked sounding better than the genius known as Davis - it seemed out of the question.. but it felt right. I immediately switched the "songs" tab on shuffle to "album" and I listened to Loveless throughout. Falling asleep on about the third song - it was bliss. I awoke not knowing where the hell I was, I actually missed my bus stop because the sounds put me into that deep of a sleep. It was as if the sound acted as a form of osmosis while I was asleep and I understood it. When I got home, I listened to it again.. and it was even better than before.

Music Review:

The album pushes music to it's limits. It stacks instruments upon instruments upon each other and really gives you a replay value when you get a hint of what is going on. You never completely understand it and that's the great thing about it (it never gets boring) I discover new things in almost every listen - the fact that the band was able to create this masterpiece astounds me every day. When I first got the main idea on what was going on - this album was a drug. I listened to it whenever I got the chance, and I know it sounds funny.. but I really did. It puts you in a trance from beginning to end and there is not a bad track on it. Sure, some songs may be weaker than others.. but it's very hard to condemn this album if you have understanding about it. It's weird to say that - because if you don't understand it... you probably won't like it but to each his own.

This will be my only review in which I do not give a song by song critique on the album. The music is too immense and complicated for my intelligence at the moment.

In Conclusion:

I realize that this is an album not everyone will like. This is not your average, every day, run of the mill album. This is Loveless... Kevin Shields' and My Bloody Valentine's masterpiece. If you do not like it within your first listen throughout the entire album, try it again. Still not getting it? Keep on trying. Hopefully it works for you, and you can understand it's beauty similar to how thousands of fans as well as I do.

Yeah, pretty stupid reason to dislike a band, huh?

I actually just finished reading the review for Loveless on AiB. You make it sound like a good album, so I'll be sure to check it out.

Btw, finally finished Birth Pains of Astral Projection. I had it paused for a while because I was watching the Blackhawks game. It's a really good song, definitely something I can get into. I'm heading to bed, but tomorrow I'm gonna look into a lot of the stuff you suggested, probably Maudlin first. Thanks, Ill.

I'm testing out my font! This better be green. *shakes fist at computer*

Guys, I'm thinking of teaming with a Samus and making a green lesbian team. This is gonna be online, so I can only imagine the rage that our team will cause, especially since my connection is so unpredictable.
But yeah, what do my fellow peaches think of this team? What role should I play? What role should he play? I've talked to a few Samuses and they think it's a terrible team because there's no kill power... but I'm sure he could pull off a spike every once in a while and I could get a few u-smashes in...
I think I'll go to the samus boards and ask too. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use the social thread for this sort of question though. Is there a better place to ask this?

Any help is greatly appreciated! <3

AH! That's where I've heard that before! I was wondering why it sounded so familiar, but I couldn't recall where I heard it from. But no, it's not Xyro lol.
Maybe I should rename our team if Xyro is known as that. Any suggestions? o=

It's an alright team. You both just need to be really good and know what you are doing. Samus should usually camp and stock tank, while Peach is the aggressor. Damage racks up pretty fast because you both have pretty good projectiles and moves that deal out a bunch of damage. The Samus can save you if you are dying (just open your umbrella and she will Up B). Don't really worry about killing just do it when you have the chance. Rack up damage and save your fair.

You'll have fun. Brinstar is a pretty good counterpick. Ban Yoshi's.

There isn't a bunch of things you can do.

If Samus grabs an opponent you can UpSmash them out of her grab. Charge shot is pretty nice because you can float and just completely avoid it.

I dunno if Illmatic has ever teamed with Xyro, but you can ask him about what shenanigans you can do in teams.
Name yourselves Tig 'ol Bitties.

Thank you for your help guys! This is really helpful! Team Tig 'ol Bitties will DOMINATE. :awesome: (if I don't mess it up with my suckage :( )
I think we compliment each other pretty well too. I looooove being the aggressor, and he's good at stock tanking and being campy. We fit perfectly into those roles, imo. I also don't get molested by his z-air as much as I thought I would.

Behind The Brawlz - The start of it all
Dark.Pch: I got into this game back in high school. I never really owned a Gamecube so I could not play it. Not to far from my high school was a store called "Nintendo world". I use to go there after school and play Melee there. They had the stands where you could play gamecube games. I would usually own along with my friend Dionis (Venom as his melee tag.) We use to go and take over Nintendo world. Even got at the staff there.

Around that time I was not really a Peach player. I played kirby. Then realized in all fighting games I usually play girls. So decided to leave kirby and pick up a girl. Peach was my choice cause in all mario games, I play her. I picked up Zelda as a second later on me and Venom thought we were hawt ****, till we met a guy named "DJ Nintendo" he randomly came in and school us all. He showed us about wave dashing. I went home and practice it. But found no use after I learned it. DJ then brought us to the tournament world of melee. Out the casual play. This was a whole new different ball game. I decided this was fun and this began my start in competitive smash in 2006.

I had alot of friends in the melee days. As well as enemies. Brawl came out 2 years later and I got into that. Felt like a new adventure. From the Peach side of my friends, I came into this new ball game alone. Well guess vanz tagged along as well for a while but then dipped to get serious in melee again. Made some new friends as well as some new enemies. I have a **** load of enemies this time around then melee.

Had alot look up to me, it really all began when Vidjo (Melee Peach pro). Made a post on these Boards saying Peach was just trash. I came in at one point and just ended him with one of my best post in my my years of smash.

This somewhat started a revolution for me and Peach.[/color]

When we come back, we will look into one of the biggest questions, and concerns. Sexuality.
