I don't think playing multiple fighters hinders your abilities more than just playing one. They may be different, but all games do help you work on fundamentals like dealing with pressure, mix ups, and how to approach. As long as you put the time into them, you will succeed.

lol@Arakune playing the metaphorical vuvuzela in that video.

Lambda is pretty fun. :3c

I can't do it though, because I still try to play her like Nu, and it's not the same at all.
I have trouble with this too. Nu and Lambda are functionally the same but they play very differently.

Nu: Zoning, defensive, runaway, massive combos off a hit confirm.
Lambda: Full-screen rushdown, offensive, massive combos off a hit confirm.

Yeah, but there's still a problem where I just play waaay too many. Really. Trust me, I think I've hit the limit of how many fighting games you should play at once. :I

So true. Taking out the backdashing Act Parser was probably a good idea in terms of balance, but it really messed with Lambda's defensive game. I can live with it because her new Act Parsers are pretty good, but still.

And every now and again, I'll play Lambda for fun, and I always mess up the drive juggle, because I forget that it's j.DD > dj.2DD instead of j.DD > dj.DD. And I've mostly grown out of it but occasionally I still try to do 5DD > 6DD > 236D.

What games do y'all play (including the games you would seriously play more often if there was a larger community)?

Hmm... I play:
Super Street Fighter IV
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
Arcana Heart (Love it, but no scene... until this winter when AH3 comes to consoles :) )
Blazblue
Touhou: Hisoutensoku
Vanguard Princess
All Smash games (duh)

I'm trying to get into Melty Blood, Guilty Gear, and the other SFs, but I can't stand the PS2 controller.

Oh gosh, let's see:

SSB Brawl, Melee
BlazBlue
Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus
Melty Blood: Actress Again
Arcana Heart (also really looking forward to AH3 :3c)
Street Fighter: Third Strike
Super Street Fighter IV
Tekken 6
King of Fighters XII (but anxiously awaiting XIII)
Touhou: Hisoutensoku
Vanguard Princess
Wartech
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
Battle Fantasia
Dead or Alive 4

I think that's all of them. There's more that I'd like to get into, like Hokuto no Ken, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and such, but I just don't have time or the money.

lol, the only fighting games I play are Brawl, SSB64, Blazblue, and Touhou Hisoutensoku.
Of course I play a bunch of different genre games like SC2

Granted whenever you and Simon bring other random games I end up playing them for that night. But not nearly enough to get the hang of any of them.

A lot of the juggles I've seen actually look like j.DD > dj.DD but that may just be my untrained eyes. If they're at a very specific trajectory (or have a Gigantic Tager Hitbox) I'm sure j.DD > dj.DD still works.

5DD > 4DD > 236D is the combo that I keep trying to do, which is really bad since they removes the gatling between 5DD and 4DD and changed 236D so it doesn't cover as much ground. I can still use 4DD > 236D though, so that's something.

What I really need to learn are 236A/B/C mixups and combos. Those moves have lots of potential.

I play:

BBCS
MvC2
SSFIV
SSF2THDR
and Puzzle Fighter (totally counts)

I'm going to play:

MvC3
SSFIV:AE (assuming it's DLC)
SFIII:3S Online
MK9

I used to play:

SSBB - I quit because I hated losing to Falco (and no, I didn't mean to type Metaknight, I hate Falco a lot more, it's a Dedede thing).
SSBM - When Brawl came out I played that a lot and lost all my techskill. And before that I lost my GCN controller for like a year.
Smash64 - I love this game but the community is hella small.
Dissidia - When I played, the community was all online and full of people who did not understand basic things about competitive fighting games. Now the community is better but it's still all online and it has weird rules like banning attacking after a burst.
TvC - I rented it then decided it was a good game but not worth buying a stick for.

I want to play:

All the games I currently play, only being a lot better at them
Hokuto no Ken
MeltyBlood
Arcana Heart
SFIII:3S
UMK3

I don't like 3D fighters that much, but once in a blue moon I'll play SC2 for the Gamecube just for kicks. I play MKvsDC with friends and it's kinda fun even though I'm scrubby and just spam uppercuts and stuff with The Joker.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Street Fighter III: Third Strike
Super Street Fighter IV
Marvel VS Capcom 2
Capcom VS SNK2
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
Melty Blood Actress Again
Super Smash Bros. Melee

These are games I pretty much play once every week or 2 to keep getting better at. BBCS is off the list for now since I haven't played it in awhile or tried to improve. Same goes for TvC. I play KoF for fun but I'm going to try and get into it when XIII comes out. Same goes for Tekken. I'll definitely get back into that when Tag 2 comes out which is quite a ways away.

I'm always working on trying to fit Darkstalkers into my time so I can get better in that.
But again, that's more of just something casual for me.

I'll give AH3 a shot when it comes out.

I would like to play Darkstalkers, but I wouldn't even know where to find a copy.
The US never got the PS2 port, only the crappy PS1 ports. I just play it on the computer since that'll be arcade perfect. I do the same for 3rd Strike and such, even if I do own it. I don't have a CRT TV, so I don't want to deal with lag.

Stuff like that kinda makes me wish the Dreamcast was still around. :I

I checked on Play Asia, and it looks like they usually carry the PS2 collection, which I might order eventually. I have Swap Magic on my PS2, so maybe I'll look into it.

I would buy a PS3 if I could find more than just Blazblue that I wanted to play on it. I just can't justify a 400-500 dollar inventment for a single game.

PS3 Slim is $300. BlazBlue is $40, but with DLC characters, add $8 for whomever you choose to buy.

So, that's about $350-ish dollars. Plus tax, I guess.

Plus, Jordan did it. :p

360 = high chance of failure due to RRoD. My first 360 broke the first week I had it. The disc tray jammed, and ate the disc. Bayonetta was the only game I've bought for the 360 in the past year. And it froze when I installed it. Same when I rented Tales of Vesperia. Whenever I selected an item, it would freeze the game. :I

And it all comes down to preference, but I think the 360 controller is absolute garbage for fighting games. At least the Dualshock d-pad is usable.

Don't forget a stick! PS3 (and Xbox to a lesser extent) controllers hurt my wrists after playing more than 20 mins.

Also, "Jordan did it" just isn't a compelling reason to do anything, let alone spend $500 :p

I think both consoles are fine. I own both but I put all of my fighters on my PS3 because I have 2 PS2 to PS3 converters for my HRAP2 SA.
As for default controllers, it's obviously just personal preference. I personally hate 360 controllers for fighters, while some people absolutely hate PS3s for fighters.

I'm still surprised console wars still go on now... (not saying that it's going on here right now)

Xbox also sucks, but I think in terms of performance, the Xbox is hands down better than PS3... until it RRs... Literally 5$ more in making the console and it wouldn't have this problem. Microsoft is ********.

I know controllers are preferential, but I'm still gonna hate.

Also, let me get this out of the way. I don't ride Microsoft or whatever. My loyalty lies with the one true king, gaming.

I just don't like long loading times, frame skipping (not especially common, admittedly), and lag (please tell me why SSFIV has 1 frame extra input lag on PS3).

I technically didn't buy a PS3 JUST for BlazBlue, but it was pretty much the "nail in the coffin", so to speak.

I just needed something to justify me picking it up, since now I can fill out my collection with stuff like Uncharted, Heavy Rain, MGS4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and a few others.

I bought a PS3 before I knew what BlazBlue was. I bought it for MGS4, Bioshock, Valkyria Chronicles, and eventually FFXIII. This was like almost 2 years ago.

I bought my PS3 the same day BBCS came out.
So the entire bundle only cost me about 250 bones.
Yum.

I try not to hate on any particular console, but I've had so much trouble with my 360 that I barely use it at all anymore.

Also, don't you have to pay for Live or something?

360 has so many games though.

I love mine just because of the sheer amount of variety.

It's also the only way I can play Tales of Vesperia. :X

I have both 360 and PS3 Vesperia. I need to stop giving Namco my money.
Luckily I didn't buy Graces so I get to wait for the PS3 version (which the demo was awesome, btw).

No one plays Virtua Fighter? I am disappoint.

Anyway, the thing about playing so many games is that while it may not hurt you directly as opposed to playing just one game, all that time spent on another game is time you could be getting better at one game.

But overall it doesn't really matter. The proven way to get and stay good at a game is to have a community of good players to play with, train with, experiment with, and have fun with. No, online doesn't count. Without that it's hard to learn everything about a game as well as stay motivated to play it constantly.

Occasionally there will be that guy who's crazy good from out of nowhere. But that's rare.

Nope, it's not. At least, there are no plans to yet.
I import a lot of Tales games, so yeah... lol

If anyone wants to try the demo, just make a JPN PSN account and DL Tales of Graces F there.
Best battle system out of the series, IMO.

Wait, so, going by that picture.... if I'm a Smash Bros fan and a BlazBlue fan, does that make it kiddie porn? O_O
