623 is right to down (not rolled to down) then between right and down. Basically you step forward, go straight to down,
then move like you're doing a roll and stop before you go right.

It's tricky, but with practice, it gets easier.

I dunno about the stick experience.

I play pad and keyboard so that's always worked for me.

Bah, I just use a num pad, not memorize it. If anything, a num pad is just muscle memory to me. Which is why using the simpler number system for fighting games is rather confusing for me, as all I see is numbers.

Saying quarter circle forward, then back, works much easier for me. As for my control preference, definitely a stick. Always hated the 360 controller for fighters, and a pad is too weird for me.

But you guys definitely helped me figure this out. At least I now know what that symbol in the command list means for sure now.

You could always use the Street Fighter method as people have said where it would be say...F,D,DF (forward, down, down-forward) and such. But dunno.

Problem with Street Fighter method is that the Drive annotation of D gets in the way of any Down notation of D. Which is why the number system is used for BlazBlue especially.

For some reason, anytime I see the notations for marvel written all out, with all the qcb, S.P, cr.S or something, it looks like a huge jumbled mess to me.

The numpad just looks so much cleaner imo. It's clear, gives a visual in your head of directions, and the numpad is common knowledge.

Also, no one ever wants to write out the entire word for a combo listing. When combos last for like 10s, writing each word out would take forever.

I know someone that likes reading notations in degrees. Like 90A for 6A and 180B for 2B. I have no idea how that even makes sense.

It makes sense, but it's more numbers than you need. 123456789 is faster than typing out a three digit number of degrees.

I agree.
I'm not looking forward to learning skullgirls combos because of that.
And it's gonna be even worse since there's 6 buttons instead of 4.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I didn't used to be, but I am. Plus, when typing up combos and printing them out and stuff, the numeric thing is just...easier.

If you wanna play BB, you might as well learn number notation now. It's weird at first, but soon you'll wonder how you got by without it, seriously.

Spelt, I'm trying Makoto. I like her combos and such, but I'm not sure how well that I can make it work in a match. We'll find out, haha.

I think I understand what you mean. I think it's because her range is so short, and her revolver action feels (for lack of a better word) more specific than other characters. So, coming from a character like Ragna, or Noel, or Hazama, for example, it feels really awkward.

Yeah, I'll have to actually try her some more. I like her combos and such, but I'm not sure if I'll actually enjoy playing her. That was my problem with Extend Tsubaki.

Number notation is necessary for learning BB combos, and it will help in a lot of the other "anime" game like Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, and the others that are not those. :3
Japan tends to use it as well, so it's easy to read their combos without knowing the language.

I really like Number notation personally, it makes it so easy to separate stick motions and button presses at just a glance.

Skullgirls is going to be weird though, SRK is going to no doubt use the old qcb style notation, but Dustloop will stick with number notation, so you may end up needing both if you try SG out.

Yeah, I have troubles playing her too. I feel uncomfortable not having a reliable long range poke. I need the range. :(

Yeah, I know what you mean. :<

Makoto feels stilted because she's been almost completely castrated by nerfs.
Nah, she always felt that way.

And whatevs, I saw some sick stuff from Bibi's Makoto this weekend, I don't think she's that bad.

Away from you.
Trying to learn Makoto during my first week of playing EX was probably the most frustrating thing for me since learning how to play UMvC3.

Makoto seems really boring in Extend. Like, she isn't bad as past BB characters, but she lacks a fun variety of options...

Wow BB thread, wow.

I got a little worried when I saw 4+ pages had been made while I was gone for a few days... Only to find out that half of them were complaints about Skull Girls X__X. There is a Skull Girls thread IN THE LIGHTHOUSE. It would've been better to voice your concerns there instead of here... Not saying that it's bad or anything but seriously... Lol. I would tell you guys to get Skull Girls since it has a bunch of neat stuff, but that's already been discussed 2 pages ago so I won't start on that again.

On the subject of Makoto, however, she seems so much different from CSII Makoto. I don't play her, but I've noticed that people play her a lot differently. She still seems really awesome, though... Some of the people I've played have done 5k stuff on me XD. I still think she's a solid character, but her options do seem WAAAAAAYYY limited compared to what she had before.

Hopefully I can balance the time I put into Skull Girls with BB to the point where it doesn't interfere with the other work I have to do buuuut... We'll see XD.

So players just get around to spamming SF character's Tatsu and Beam Supers on ranked?
Nah, what Livewire means is pretty much what I agree with. The game just suddenly clicks randomly.
Before that, you pretty much can't see why you're winning or why you're losing.

I kinda like when a thread discusses other things. No one ever seems to go to stuff like the Fighting game thread...

Yeah, one thing I've noticed, and that a bunch of my friends have said is that Marvel kind of goes from being this random "WTF is going ON?!!!" insanity that makes no sense to a "controlled mashing of assists and Shoryukens".

@dualseeker: 40 posts per page helps immensely.

Anyway, I'm kinda surprised how much I'm loving Mu's combos. I've just got a bit of trouble in actually starting them in a match, and I'm also lost on stein usage.

Steins are tricky, it's just one of those things that comes with practice.

I'm still not that good at it and i've been playing her since cs1, lol.

Haha, k.

But seriously, I'm loving her combos. I love actually doing combos for once and not relying on Noel drive shenanigans. :3

Edit: And man am I sucking. I never realized how much I had relied on Noel's drive easy mode. :(
