Some one should do something for Brawl. I've been bored these past days and will drive out to something.

I'd host but I know people won't come to EL.

Though if people will travel, then smash at EL.

I'll be home in half an hour, I'm down to smash or go somewhere to smash (and get smashed).

FYI: Coco doesnt go to tournaments because he has no ride and he's like 2 hours way. Xatic has no cash atm to drive that far. If people want to start in this particular instance they can donate a few bucks to a "Gas Fund" that supports people who drive from 2 hours away like them...or 4 hours way like Sparta Kick and Oblivion. Even just 1 buck from everyone who enters a tournament would help a LOT. A lot MI Smashers can't go because they have to drive from hours away and have no support other than the people they come with. We can start by helping these people ....then people like Xatic, Coco, L and others would appear more.

Not bad, but the stage selection system wouldn't work. We tried the "strike down from the full list" for a good while, and people just didn't take to it. Too hard for most people to remember all the stages, eliminated wildcard counterpicks (a last ditch effort for some people), and became too tedious to continually turn on all the stages and turn them off again.
Yeah, I cut down the stage list to nine (of which all should be acceptable in pretty much the entire country) to deal with memory and time issues, as well as what WTP mentioned for taking time on deciding bans - since you're striking from a list of what some people would even consider all starters, it shouldn't be too difficult a process, since you'd simply get rid of the stages you hate the most, rather than having to worry about some surprise counter to Port Town or something. It actually somewhat goes against my philosophy of keeping as many stages as possible, but with a nine-stage list variety is preserved while still keeping everything relevant to the nation as a whole anyway.

I hate the gas fund idea. It breaks apart when more people show up. The more people who drive, the more you have to distribute the money, the less effective and more pointless it becomes.

Also, I know I'm rich but it is not expensive to go to a tournament once a month. Blaming money is just using it as an excuse when you don't want to go for other reasons. Meaning you are spending money on other activities you find more fun than Smash, which is the actual problem.

Finally, who (Mostly Gifts and Marco and Lain) wants to come to EL and on what day before this Saturday?

Okay, really? I know I'm in a minority when I say this(Sparta Kick and Oblivion may share my problems), but I'm looking at 2 1/2 - 4 1/2 hours of driving time both ways when it comes to the idea of a tournament. Add four dollars to the gallon and I heartily laugh at your attempt to call gas 'not the real reason'. It costs me $70 just in gas to make it to and from, and that's without tournament fees and food. And I get 30 mph. Most cars available outside of my own get nearer ~20 mph, which is literally $100 on gas before tournament fees and food. Maybe before even lodging, depending on the trip/tournament.

Which is a lot to factor out of a month's budget, even with a job.

I admittedly made two assumptions. 2.5 hour one way tops, and carpooling.

$25 for tournament costs. -$5 with set up (Usually), -$10 per event you don't enter.

+$0 for food. You eat no matter what. I don't count that. You can bring food if need be. If not, +$5 for the extra you spend on fast food over store bought food you'd eat otherwise.

+$5~$30 for gas. Gas first time can be harder. If you don't know people in the scene, and are alone in local area, then it might be costly. But with smashboards or after entering the scene, you can pick people up for money. Or you can be like SK, who I assume banks on earning money to pay for the costs.

In your case, you pass East Lansing. You can pick up Rabbi, Jon, Sumer, and/or fZk and split gas or for charge (Come the end of summer when they are back in college). You can go to a tournament for about $40. A little expensive for a single day activity/hobby, but manageable for once a month or so.

Remember to add the gas for each person both ways - driving about East Lansing could easily add another 40-50 miles total round trip, maybe even more, depending where they live in East Lansing and how efficiently I can swing by their homes. I know that I was looking into picking up L_Cancel and Lordy at one point, and they would have added ~30 miles to my trip for how far off the route I had to get.

If I'm coming out that way, do you really thing we're just gonna eat some chips and a McDouble? We're gonna make a day of it, and enjoy ourselves. Food most definitely counts, because it makes all the difference in the world if I stay home and make myself some Ramon or PB&J compared to a night out at BDubs with some friends.

Can't be SK, I play main Mario and second Fox. No bank will be made from me, but if I can get in some Project M, or if WuVs happens to be around, some Brawl+, I'll be quite happy.

Either way, it's still a crazy expensive hobby to have when you barely enjoy the main game and, as history has shown, you don't win unless you main MK/IC's/are a wizard.

Yes. You're budgeting. Food is easy to cut.

The actual issue. You don't enjoy Brawl. You don't want to shell out $40 for a day of Brawl. If every tournament came with a (side) tournament of Project M, would $40 seem to be nearly as much?

With your example, a Brawl tournament is staying home with PB&J, and a Project M/Brawl+ tournament is BDubs.

Main reason i don't enter tourneys is cause of money, lately I've been wanting to enter tourneys real bad though, but moneys still an issue, I entered juggles tourney the past weekend cause I wanted to enter a tourney badly but in his case it was only $5 to enter

Half-true. I enjoy Brawl, but not nearly so much the tournament scene. No offense to anyone here, but I like picking up my favorite character and fighting with them, but when they aren't, in any way, tournament viable, there's so little incentive to use them.

And yes, it would still be a lot. And no, heading to a tournament is still special, so I don't like the idea of budgeting a trip out there if I'm gonna put restrictions on my fun.

With your example, a Brawl tournament is staying home with PB&J, and a Project M/Brawl+ tournament is BDubs.
I can accept this, but more like Project M is Arby's or China Buffet, and Brawl+ is BDubs. But this is just making me hungry.

Perhaps, though, I can become... The Wizard? Then I can go to tournaments like Genesis in Caaaaaallliiiiiiiifooooorrrnnnia.

Plus it gives him RCO lag, just jab him and force him to land, then pick Smash of your choice. Wait we're talking about Brawlelawl, right? Oh wait, Melee, disregard.

Also WTP is a brony too? ...yay...

Also, hi.

Takin' advantage of "venue fee" only applying to people who enter even though that's not really supposed to be the case.
