A new tier list would make everyone happy (for the most part...)

I mean, we've got another two months (at least) before Brawl. I think it can be done. But at the same time I believe it won't happen

Are we gonna get a new Tier list now that Brawl has been delayed to March '08? :p

In any case, this list doesn't show how great the characters are, just how manuverable they are. A character's true potential is only realized through its careful mastery from a dedicated user. A true SSB Melee master can beat others regardless of the tier distribution, so like others have said, tiers only serve as a guideline of how manuverable a character is, and not of which character's best.

I'm Roy secondary and I don't :/

Actually, I'd like to know what was going through the minds of the programmers/designers when they made Marth and Roy. In any game, let alone a fighter, you want to make sure PVP is balanced. So why would they make Marth have faster, stronger, tactically better spaced, better recovery, and a spike that is unstoppable? Roy has... nothing. The only thing you COULD say Roy has on Marth is a 1 hit on Jigglypuff, and that is only if the other person is on the correct stage and doesn't know how to DI. You sucks compared to Marth. The only reason I play him is because I have the balls to. I don't want to be a jerk and control a character by only using the control stick and c-stick. What's the point in shielding with Marth? Just U-tilt and you have a move that covers your whole body AND does damage.

Plus, I believe, out of all the Roys the world has to offer, mine isn't that bad. High tier, no! Will it ever see tournament play outside of a low-tier tourny? No. But I will be ****ed the day I pick up Marth to play a serious match.

The reason noobs think roy is better than Marth is because they predominately have poor spacing and Roy has a larger portion of his sword available for sweet spotting I can't even describe how long it took me to learn to space properly to the point where Marth was better than Roy. The creators of the game obviously were not catering to a highly competitive crowd, they were catering to the casual majority. And those players could pick between "power" Roy, or "speed" Marth.

No one's Roy is top tier, in fact if you play anything but the top 4 you are putting yourself at a disadvantage competetively.

Are you including Peach in that?

I'd think Peach is more advantageous than Falco because of all the vile things that can be done to him.

Agreed.

I think a lot of mediocre and non-tourney players fall into 2 groups. One group firmly believes that high tiers will always win. The other thinks they don't exist and that its all based on skill.

The reality is that the tier list is very real, but it only points out a characters natural advantage in comparison to the rest of the cast at high level play.

That is, Marth is clearly a better character than Roy at high level play. But it doesn't mean that someone can't play Roy well.

A lot of low tiers are actually very technical if you dump enough time into them (Yoshi cough). You can be insanely good with a low tier character. Good enough to beat most regular players. But it doesn't change the fact that he's not naturally as good as say, Fox.

There is such a fine line between the "its about skill" and the actual tier list. Yes it is about skill, but the tier list is compiled by top players. People who have mastered the game. Not only do they probably know more about it than most, but they are firsthand proof that tiers are there and that they matter.

If it were only about "skill" we'd be seeing Yoshi's and Zelda's winning tournaments. But that's not the case.
