I'm probably the only person that's actually more interested in other titles going to be displayed on June 11th.

Probably. I'm pretty hyped for literally everything they'll show, but Smash is my full-on jam. :happysheep:

^^^ I'm really hyped for Mario Wii U and Mario Kart Wii U!!!

It could be free, it could be charged. Regardless, I would pay for any and all Smash DLC.

Also, Nintendo is usually really conservative with their DLC, so I imagine if they have any for Smash, it will be well worth our money.
You have a point there. Super Luigi U DLC that is essentially a whole new game. Whatever the DLC is I'm sure Nintendo will make it worth it

Other then Smash? Im more excited to see the games we don't know about.

I'm hyped for Wind Waker HD, Super Mario U, Mario Kart U, A Link to the Past 2 and of course Super Smash Bros 4. (there are likely more that I just forgot)

Oh yeah I'm also interested in that Fire Emblem and that Shin Megami Tensey (or whatever it was called) crossover as well as X and Retro's new game.

The trailer for the next Super Smash Bros. game is going to have to do more then just simply recycling the same fluff Brawl did. You cannot create the same magic twice, you know.

While a trailer would be relieving, there needs to be excitement.

Hey, Fatman's back in this thread, and no one seemed to notice. I remember him from my lurking days pre-Brawl. Welcome back, Fatmanonice!

Anyway, just another week and a half, and we'll have some more info. I can't wait.

With the steady stream of internet failures and power outages at the Zenith nationals tournament, I sincerely hope Chibo and the other boys who made the deal sue for major breach of contract, and I sincerely hope they had litigating damages up the butt in that contract.

The thing is that while Mega Man (and Ridley) being confirmed would create a lot of hype among Nintendo fans, there is really no one else left for Sakurai to use to create hype solely through characters. Even someone like Mega Man is mostly only really popular among Nintendo fans. Snake and Sonic were probably the biggest third-party game characters out there. I would say the only other third-party character out there that is big as those in terms of the overall size of his fanbase would possibly be Cloud, however, I highly doubt he would get in for Smash 4.

No need to mention the situation among actual Nintendo characters in terms of the newcomer pool.

For characters, while Sakurai probably does have some guys left to create the same amount of hype that Brawl did, Sakurai likely wants to escalate things further than the reaction he got from Brawl's unveil, and quite frankly in terms of characters, there is not much he can do to surpass Brawl's unveil.

Sakurai is really going to try and surpass Brawl's unveil with Smash 4's, I can feel it.

Brawl's unveil was kind of dull actually, except for the part with Snake solely due to the surprise factor. The first trailer for Melee did a far better job at demonstrating the game.

At the moment I'd say it would have something to do with Wii U & 3DS connectivity with anything gameplay (unless it's as major and easy to show off like the Final Smash) related being saved for the Dojo.
I think there's gonna be tons of Smash 3DS and Smash Wii U connection stuff and diferences, so yeah, so of course lots of it will be saved for the Dojo.

Exactly. Whatever it is, it will be worth our money. Besides, I think QUALITY console games should be $70 anyways. I say that because $60 today is worth less than $50 5 years ago, which means that even though video game developers and producers spend more on games than ever, they earn less per each copy sold.

I only partially agree. While hype can attract attention, it can also raise expectations, sometimes to unrealistic levels like with Brawl. Also, I don't think SSB4 really needs that much more hype. A lot of us here were excited about SSB4 shortly after we finished Brawl in 2008 and, like the Wii, a lot of people are holding off on getting the Wii U until SSB4 comes out. It's already a system seller and will no doubt be one of the console's best selling games. I personally think there is such thing as trying to oversell a game and I would rather have Nintendo spend their energy on doing this for new IPs or even games from less popular franchises like Pikmin 3.

Brawl didn't have fluff: it had pure magic. That was the best trailer of all-time EASILY IMO. All those characters... GREAT GALAXY that trailer was amazing.

Keep dreaming pal. Maybe some day.
I would pay $50 per DLC character in a heart beat, no joke.

I know right can you believe this guy?.....Oh wait.. that's me.
I'm not sure where your getting at, If I complain about DLC wouldn't it be obvious that I'm going to complain about buying any sort of additional content???

Anywho, when I said that, I was saying that I hope stages are the only downloadable content they offer.

I will pay for extra characters if i have to, but I rather not if i can help it.

What i WOULD like it is if they bundle their offerings. Maybe like 1-2 character and 2 to 3 stages for 4.99USD/4.00EUROs

I was mostly referring to the part where you whined about it. lol

You don't have to buy the DLC you know. Unless you think you need it that is.

Great idea about the bundle though. Add some stage builder parts to that and i would be set to pay for those bundles.

You have garbage tastes then.
What, you mean seeing 5 really great characters be confirmed=???

You know, where we got WARIO, aka the most wanted character for Brawl before Brawl's release, Meta Knight, aka a cult favorite, Pit, aka a retro favorite, and Snake, aka one of the best newcomers in Brawl=???

That's pretty freaking good.

Also, who died and made you the God of what's good and what's bad=???

While it not be better than Melee's "trailer" (which wasn't created with the purpose to be a trailer - it was the intro. The gameplay part of the unveil was created to be the trailer), Brawl's was also a pretty good trailer, especially considering it was made earlier in the game's development, and was created with the purpose of only giving limited information. It had characters people had wanted, it had surprise characters, it showed two new major additions (Smash Ball and AT), it showed new stages, it showed actual gameplay (briefly, to be fair), and the music was awesome. Expecting more than that from a trailer, especially a debut trailer, is a little entitled.

If we get like 1/3rd of the new stuff we got in the Brawl reveal trailer, then I will be very pleased. After all, in the reveal trailer, we got 5 new characters, the 1st ever 3rd party playable character, 2 new stages, a reinvented Battlefield, the smash ball, the first Assist Trophy character, and an epic new theme song for the game.

That's a heck of a lot for a reveal trailer, compared to most reveal trailers, where all you get is a (often interim) title, one quick scene in under 15 seconds, and well, nothing of real substance.

I'd also be surprised if either smash game is half as far as developed as Brawl was then (Brawl basically ran on the Melee engine, as proven by the gameplay speed, Meta Knight wavelanding and wavedashing, etc).

I agree, even if you compare it to Melee's reveal it is still amazing in its own right. I remember when I first saw it, I made a smashboards account on the spot to talk about it.

I can understand this, and would do the same. You pay money for games in order to acquire a certain quality and quantity of an experience to be given to you in return, and the value of SSB4 will easily be worth more than what I paid for to the point that dropping more cash to get even more content makes complete sense to me.

I always hated it when people bring up things like "bad taste" lol to me that just sounds like a more classy way to bash what people are into and get around the whole "your opinion is no better than anyone's else's because everyone has one" sentiment

Yeah... you got me there ... It's because I've been screwed over with DLC in the past,
only hear about some GOTY Edition that comes with the same game and all of it's DLC at the same price i bought it without DLC :urg:

Bro! If it's new characters as DLC for Smash! I'm going to want it. If they are just skins then, hmmm... not so much.

But as Johnknight said Nintendo has handled DLC pretty good so far so i don't really have a reason to be wary yet. But yea bundles are ideal.
As for stage builder.. I REALLY hope they over haul that feature. It has so much potential.

Don't pick a fight over opinions; there's really no point to it.

That's just Habanero's spiciness. I guess you can say it's an... acquired taste.

That being said, maybe he'll cool down a bit when we actually get info.

I hate it too but its a fact of life. People are very subtly self-idealizing in every day speech and action. It is hard not to be, since it is easy to over-measure ourselves because our perspective is literally everything.

More worth than Sukapon. At least Sakurai actually said something on the order of him never being a possibility :troll:

And once again, you misinterpret what I say and use a horrible counterpoint. (In other words, you're being weak :p)
I never once said nor implied Namco-Bandai owns him. They merely have power to do what they want with him within the realm of video games, given that Bandai holds the license for media outside the manga itself (which is licensed by Shueisha for publication) and the anime itself (which is licensed by Toei Animation) and have had held it since before 1990.
This includes toys and video games.
Same holds true for the Naruto franchise, which is why they are able to include a character from Namco's Tekken franchise as a guest in Ultimate Ninja Storm 2, and why they are able to include a special Goku costume for Naruto in Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 despite Naruto's license for the anime belonging to Studio Pierrot rather than Toei Animation.

Your Iron Man example falls because not only is Capcom not working on Smash 4, but they hold no rights to Marvel characters whatsoever by any stretch of the means.

Regardless of what you think Namco is allowed to do with Goku, including him into Smash Bros. while Namco isn't even fully making the game by themselves is a somewhat laughable thought. You think that with say, Jump Superstars they didn't needed any premission to include all those characters by their respective creators? I really think your overestimating it all.

I mean just really.

Namco.

Including Goku.

In Super Smash Bros.

:joyful:

Basically just a guess based on what we know so far. That said at this point anything could happen. It's rather funny to see just how much in the dark we are about the game after speculating all this time.

On the contrary, the information provided will only raise hell for us all.
After hanging out in the Pokemon Center X&Y thread, what we'll be able to discuss beyond whether we like it or not depends on how the information is presented. Here's hoping for more Sylveons and Fairy Type-like discussions.

Pikachu is ****ing sexy in Brawl. After being so dissapoited with his changes from 64 to Melee, playing Brawl Pikachu feels just so awesome. They balanced him pretty well. Wish every character was about as balanced as Pikachu in Brawl in the next game actually.

So yeah, :pikachu2: >>> :pit:

Looking back on it, the Brawl trailer really wasn't that special in its content but it was effective in its delivery. The thing that made it effective was how it revealed just enough information to drive most fans crazy with curiosity, which is ultimately the point of trailers anyways. It also happened at a pace that it was hard to register everything that was going on. First Mario/Link/Pikachu/Kirby changed to have significantly better graphics in the span of about 6 seconds before introducing final smashes in the span of 11 seconds while revealing three new stages and four new characters in the span of about a minute and 10 seconds. At the end, they then dragged out Snake's reveal for nearly a minute just to rub it in everyone's face that one of the former taboo's of the franchise (no third party characters allowed) had been shattered. In my opinion, the only other trailer in Nintendo's history that had been more effective in its delivery was Twilight Princess even though they largely followed the same formula: show a few old things, show a few new things, and offer few explanations about either.

I'm willing to bet that if I explicitly state that I main Ganondorf, some people will shout "Blimey! That Frost guy mains Ganondorf! He's garbage! He's a low-tier scum!!"

I like using Ganondorf in online battles a lot. It's awesome getting like 15 KOs and everybody just stumbles and leaves.

Still not as effective as Donkey Kong however. I can easily get 20+ KOs with him online at times.

E3 is in 10 days just inches away from making me satisfied. Anything to lighten up the mood after the craptastic week I've experienced and want to forget about completely. The trailer should be big to the point being better and more purty than that Microsoft VCR Xbox One reveal.

Ganondorf is actually a killer machine in FFAs. If you are opportunistic enough while your opponents are beating the crap of each another, you can launch a Warlock Punch and triple KO them in an instant. Same goes for most heavyweight characters.

It's less laughable than your idea of Pikachu being tied to a Trainer with Pichu and Raichu.
And as I said before, I don't think it will happen. Just that it is in fact a possibility.

Agreed, either you liked the trailer or you didn't. Personally I really liked the trailer since it came so unexpectedly and, as everyone is saying, it did a great job at showing us a few details to get people excited and start talking. Overall it may have set the expectations for Brawl a tad high, but the trailer itself was fantastic at getting everyone excited.
