I understand that running a tournament at this magnitude would entail a fairly decent entry fee, and I'm all for that (otherwise, who would be willing to actually run these things?). But why the F should I feel obligated to pay for OOC'ers? I would love to watch a rematch with M2K and Armada (are they even going to this?), but I most certainly do not feel inclined to be his benefactor during his trip to the States. I don't care if it's the friggin' Dalai Lama who wants to Smash it up--they should have to pay for themselves.

*EDIT*

Getting famous names to attend usually raises attendance and hype, making the tournament better all around.

So if someone like Armada or Amsah want to come but just don't have the money, sometimes a TO will pay their way in order to get their name in the tournament title, knowing that they won't have a net loss because of the attendance increase.

Don't look at it like you're funding another player, look at it like you're making the tournament better.

if you don't want to "pay for them" then just don't go. no one is forcing you to.

it's akin to a concert with multiple bands.
I went to a concert with three bands playing.
two i didn't care about, one being the headliner.
the headliner made the tickets much more expensive and i hated their set, but i thoroughly enjoyed the band i went for.

was it worth it? yes.
would other people think so? sure.
would other people disagree? sure.

I understand your point, Andrew. But, who exactly is paying for the OOC'ers? The TO or everyone else? If it's the TO, then fine, do whatever. But if it's the 98% who aren't going to benefit financially from this increased attendance, then I don't think it should fall on their shoulders. Then again, some probably feel that having a larger turnout is payment enough, and others are simply going to dish it out solely because they just want to participate. I guess the bottom line is that no one is forcing you to attend. :/

afaik Alex Strife is actually paying out of his own pocket for the ooc-ers.
even then, would you not be willing to pay the extra dollars to play with some of the best people from other countries? is that kind of experience not worth it to you? that's not the point of the increased venue fee in itself, but regardless i think it's worth it.
also everybody still seems to be forgetting that the venue is being

im sorry :(:( Hopefully we will unite at POE3.

MAUS!!!! guess what!! THE FAMOUS RAY CHUN is going to Korea, he got a job there!!! You gotta hang out with him hahahaha.
who is that?

===========================================
Johnny//
I think i remember seeing that $30 for entire tourney.
in that case, it isn't too bad,
but i thought the definition of the 'door fee' was to pay the fee everyday you entre, you pay.

so, if he rent the spot for 2 days, and you are going there 2 times,

you pay twice.. >_>

well, whatever.

==========================================

I AM FINALLY,
ABOUT to try SC2 oooOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOOoooooO

who is that?
Hes an awesome smasher with hysterical trash talking, we have had lots of good times going to tourneys and playing.

One time he forfeited a tournament game to me cuz he didnt wanna play my CP of rainbow cruise. He figured he would **** my fox with marth on YS. Well I 3 stocked him XD. Hes like DUDE we gotta redo that. So we played out the match on cruise, then another match on stadium, he beat me both times(his falco my fox). So i let him advance and knock me out of the tournament.

My johns:
1. i was high and thought the whole situation was hilarious
2. it was a small local tourney in vros basement, so I didnt care that much
3. i think he earned the victory after beating me twice

Its a funny story to tell XD

heh nice.
i will try to lean on the fact that he is a 'cool dude' from what you guys tell.
i quit meeting new people through smash bros.

if i do that, there are too many people who only need me for smash not acutally as a friend.
I don't like that much.
well there are few exceptions, like,
they like playing me, but that is the only thing we can do in common, and i got nothing else to do on that day, then yes, why not.

i wrote something on his thread, so let's see he contacts me or not.

yeah. i started getting sick of those 'game nerds' who only need me for games.
that's one of the reasons i 'quit' smash bros, as well. >_>

well, game can be a common thing or one of the 'media' for socializing.

But I don't want something like
'to play the game, i need friends', you know..
i'd like to see
'to hang out with friends, game can be an option'

I don't drink to much or anything, but i would go to a party, drink with buddies and chill.
no problem.
I maybe study with my friends?
I can talk about all those random things - good example:: the 'lol' story - and have fun
we can all go out to dinner
we can all watch a movie,
go to karaoke and go crazy
yell and troll on the street, fawk yeah.
etc

i don't want to see the game being the only option of socializing with certain people.

those game nerds will ditch you whenever you seem to be not the right one to 'play with'
that's not a friendship. that is like, a contract game partner.

So yeah..

there are INDEED cool people among those gamers.
in Purdue, pretty much everyone I met are cool and nice
in GA, almost everyone except few...
Torg, HtH, and some random kids... i don't even care.
in Korea, Marcus is... OK... >_>
DoYoung is funny as hell.
KDJ is awesome, hope i can get to hang out with him some more this summer.
YongMin & YongBok bros were nice, but we only hung out few times that we aren't too much of friends. we just know each other.
guy called XYT was seriously so fawking annoying.

so...
even though I can potentially get alot of friend from the game...
i would like to avoid those game freaks who aren't even my friends.

yeah. i got nothing to do at the moment.
so, I am just writing long posts. lol

Ahahah ... Crrg.
Don't worry, I didn't do well in logical fallacies either.

Also ... CS 159 is the only class I've ever gotten an A in.
Well, besides COM - but that hardly counts as a class.

I should of had an A, i got full credit on pretty much all my homework and labs, I just couldn't do well on the tests.
