I'm loving Cammy's alt costume.
Same here.

I feel like I'm alone in thinking that Chun-Li's costume is kinda horrendous, which is a shame because I'm getting V on PC. Hopefully there'll be some other way to obtain Cammy's costume.

I like the theory that the alt costumes are how the characters are supposed to appear in-game and their default designs are used for advertisement/recognizability reasons.

I really want Q, Rose, Akuma, Yun, Sakura, Dudley and Yang as DLC. And some new characters would be great but that's all I need personally.

That announcement was really good. Was not expecting the graphical changes of that level and also Akuma.

Slightly off topic but look who made it in Tekken 7:

Do you think SFV will have a guest character?
Why don't we have a Tekken thread?

In any case, I have some mixed feelings about this. Akuma in Tekken is really cool. Akuma being part of the Tekken canon? Not so much. I know Tekken's plot is the greatest narrative piece ever, but I was a bit curious about T7's story.

I was at the Tekken panel back at San Diego Comic Con 2014. Harada said that T7 would have a more focused story and would answer many unanswered questions. That peaked my interest. I also remember him saying at the panel that many will be "surprised" by who the silhouetted character is. Boy, I sure was.

I'll go ahead and create a thread for Tekken 7.

Because 3D fighters don't get a whole lot of love around these parts :(

I'm feeling like T7 Akuma is going to be a different beast than the one we know in SF. Tekken has always held its place firmly in the sci-fi genre. Even the "demons" in the Tekken universe are the result of science rather than the supernatural. So I imagine that Akuma's Tekken backstory will be changed to reflect that.

Or they'll just screw the cannon.

Science tried to replicate the devil gene, but I don't think it's implied to be the result of science. At least, not yet. There is no official confirmation.
Harada did say T7 will answer a lot of questions, though.

Although M. Bison is looking better than he ever has, I won't be getting V unless the King returns. I can't imagine why they'd leave him out. Fei Long, too.

Street Fighter V is one of those games I have on my wishlist when I buy a PlayStation 4. This would be the first game I'll be playing since I'm new to the series.

Cool. Hope you like it.

Did you check out any characters? Any of them catch your eye?

V is an odd game to start with. You sure you don't want to try one of the IV games first?

I figure starting with the newest iteration is probably the best route. There's a lot to learn with IV, but a bunch of it isn't going to carry over into V, which is what everyone's probably gonna be playing. Plus you'll be getting in on the ground floor with V, before everyone knows all there is to know about it, with plenty of new players online.

True, for the most part, but we don't know for sure if V is what everyone will be playing. I remember reading that IV is the most tournament-played fighting game. For all we know, V could flip. Then what?

People seem to flock to whatever the newest game is whether they actually prefer it or not, so I'm not that worried about it. Like, there's probably a bunch of IV players who would love to go back to 3s, but IV is where everyone's at. I can tell you that there are a lot of IV players who are incredibly sick of IV, and they can't wait to switch to V.

But I guess we'll see.

My retort: Melee.
Melee is a pretty exceptional case. The series isn't built around serious competitive play, but the stars aligned and Melee turned out to be a really interesting competitive game. Brawl made this clear, since it was kind of the opposite of what every competitive player liked about Melee.

Street Fighter, on the other hand, has always been and probably always will be a series focused on the competitive scene, and SFV is no different. We do not have a Brawl on our hands.

I would argue that the competitive Street Fighter scene didn't really start till IV, as competitive gaming wasn't really around for II and III wasn't really popular. Even now I hear people complain about V being too slow, although you could chalk that up to the ****ty fanbase.

I mean, there weren't any crazy huge tournaments or livestreams with a billion viewers, but there certainly was a competitive scene. Even Street Fighter II, which was initially just some sequel to a horrible fighting game, was focused solely around competitive play (whereas Smash is a party game, first and foremost). It doesn't take huge prize pools and Twitch streams for a scene to come about.

No, it definitely helps solidify a "scene," which is why I say that Street Fighter's scene didn't start till IV. Make no mistake, the competitive scene doesn't make up the entire community, which is why IV and V are the way they are and not closer to III.

Competitive scenes existed before Twitch. IIRC II was really popular for a while, and III had a following despite the initial backlash.

It isn't. Honestly, the only SF that I'd say is bad to start with is III, and that's just because it has a really high learning curve.
Well really, I don't care which game in the series I should start with as long as I play one.

How is it so odd? And I could if I know where to find one.
I'd say start with V. Generally I would say play the older game to get ready for the new game, but in this case it's a full sequel instead of a small upgrade. V removes a lot of barriers that get in the way of learning the game. More buffering on things, simpler combos, etc. SFIV is cluttered with a lot of things that might hold you back from liking the series. It's not even the kind where complex = good.

I mean that one of the earlier games would be better suited to get you acquainted with the series. For example, you most likely don't know who Guile is. You would have no incentive to buy him in V, unless you already who he was by playing IV.

Well, thanks for the input y'all. I'll go ahead and start off with V as soon as I get a PS4...whenever I can, that is.

In the meantime, that is if I want to, I'll go ahead and try out IV.

If you have USB controller and a good PC Steam is always an option.
If I get a newer laptop, I would definitely give it a go. I don't know what would be a good USB controller to play on Steam though.

I honestly can't wait to try out Laura in SFV. Of course imam try everyone, but she looks like one of the more rewarding footsie/fundamental characters. Less than two months!!
