Hey guys, I got a message form teh_future saying MMM hosts a smashfest every Tuesday? Any way I can get in on this? I play Smash (in all three forms) and just moved to STL for college and want to get in on the scene here. Can I get some more details (this thread is huge haha, or I would jsut read it)

Brawl usually happens at MMM's house. Melee happens pretty regularly as well, usually in the Wash U area.

MMM's is usually Tuesday nights if I remember correctly. Melee events are less regular, but we usually use this thread to coordinate. Might be a good idea to swap cell numbers with a few people from each camp.

Hehe yep, I'm coming to that tourny playing in both melee and brawl both days. ANd Nuris, I'm pretty close to WashU, but not 100% sure how close. We are pretty much on the WashU medical campus, if that's close haha. Right by Central-West End Metro Station. This that'll work? I may not be able to go this Tuesday though. And if I do, not for a super long time, maybe a couple hours. Lemme know if you think I'm close enough! Map questing it would be 4576 Parkview Place.

#1: Up-B stalling with Sheik != Planking

#2: Notice Amsah didn't do it in any other matches. He did it that match because Jman was laser camping and refusing to approach.

#3: There is and always has been camping in Melee. From the days of Camper Bob and Mathos to Pink Shinobi nowadays. That's not the issue.

Camping in Brawl may or may not be more frequent than in Melee, but the problem is that it is more annoying because of its relative ease/effectiveness and the slower pace of the game.

The only thing that tournament did was once again prove how not broken MK is, you're on freaking CRACK Andrew.

Anyway I'm pretty positive Ally used Snake against him, but the stream died for that entire set and it wasn't recorded :\ I know that he started the first match as Snake but it cut out after that.

I dunno how MK getting 6 of the top 8 spots is evidence that he isn't broken, but I guess my mind is just crazy like that.

The fact that one player is really good with Diddy only shows that one player is really good with Diddy. I don't see any other Diddys up there. If he is so good you would think there would be more Diddys up closer to the top, but that is not the case. Somehow Logic got up there with Olimar, so that's nice to have some variety, but he also didn't beat any MKs in bracket, until he lost to Judge (unless Ninjalink used MK on him, I dunno). All the other top players that used other characters failed to get as far. Even the Snakes didn't get that far (except Ally, but he was almost all MK, right?). I wish that DEHF had gotten to play some MKs to see whether he would have won, but he got pretty boned by the bracket I think. Lee Martin lost to two MKs. Lain lost to two MKs. Malcolm (who is apparently like the best Wario on the EC?) lost to two MKs. I think Candy lost to two MKs. Ally lost to MK when he went Snake. These are characters that are supposed to be good against MK, played by the top players who use them. Yeah, it's just one tournament, but I think the results are pretty dumb-looking and probably the direction the game is heading in. And it's going to get even worse once I start winning tourneys with MK. Maybe ADHD can beat MK, but that's probably just because ADHD is really good.

m2k will get better against adhd. Once diddy is in the air, he usually has a hay day. He makes some dumb moves sometimes trying to get that initial hit. Nonetheless I don't believe mk is that broken, but it did seem like meta knights are starting to learn how to fight snake. Ally went to final game on his last 3 sets against mk, plus seibrik beat him at winterfest.

P.S. Lucario is gay.

Yeah, that's another thing. I don't think M2K knows how to play Diddy. Just like when he didn't know how to play against Snake, I'm sure he will figure the matchup out and go back to ******. Supposedly the same thing is happening on the west coast, where DEHF was beating Tyrant, etc. consistently, but now those MKs have adjusted more to his new playstyle and he lost to both Tyrant and DSF at the last tourney they were all at.

A lot of top people missed the tournament, especially non MK mains. You can argue that Tyrant and DSF weren't there either, but there were more non-MK mains that would have gotten top 20 easily who didn't make it.

Having 8 MK's in the top 12 isn't even bad, especially considering that Ally didn't play MK in any of the matches that mattered, and there were others who didn't main him. So it was more like 6 or 7 of 12, even with the lack of top mains missing from the tournament.

There is nothing wrong with that top 12 at all. I can easily see SK92, DMG, GNES, and a host of others making it up there. Furthermore, there were a lot of really close matches and honestly a lot of people who didn't make the top 12 easily could have / should have.

Then you look at people like DEHF who have the MK matchup down to a science and would have surely knocked more of them out, but he ended up fighting Chu Dat (Kirby) and then Lain (IC's) and got knocked out. I guarantee you that had a serious result on the top 12 because DEHF would have easily been top 5 if he didn't lose to Chu Dat with that BS last stock :\

You can't say there is any problem with MK from this data, it's just not rational. It was a really close tournament; every set was very close. It could have easily been even less "MK-dominant" but even as it stands it was NOT dominated by MK. MK was prominent, as expected. Not dominant.

Besides, you didn't even watch the matches. You just looked at the list after the tournament without ever seeing any of the matches and then IMMEDIATELY tried to find something to support your anti-MK-crusade.

If a single character getting 6 of the top 8 and like a third of the bracket spots in a game that has nearly 40 characters is not evidence that he dominates the game then I don't know what is. It really doesn't matter how close a match is, this is Brawl, not Melee. All that matters is who ends up winning the set. Maybe DEHF would have made it up there, but then again, Logic shouldn't have, as he had a dream bracket and pools, it seemed. Of course there are plenty of other character mains that MIGHT have made it up there, but there are also more MK mains that might have. I mean, it's pretty hard to tell. I'm sure you thought DEHF was guaranteed top 8, but that didn't happen, so it's pretty impossible to make completely accurate predictions. All that matters is the results, because that is what DID happen, and that much MK is pretty gross. Of course, I guess that's good for me because soon I'll be the best in the country at the MK ditto, so the more the merrier.

You cannot claim all 40 characters not being present means anything. There is no such thing as a game where every character is evenly distributed. There is not such thing as a game where the top 10-20% of characters isn't VASTLY more likely than the rest.

I cannot WAIT for you to "really" pick up MK because he's "EZ MODE" and then drop him when you realize that you don't have the amazing success that you dreamed and your entire ******** MK-complex falls down around you.

If you have success with MK, I severely doubt it will be any better than what you have had with Olimar thus far. I'm glad you're picking him up though, everyone should know how to play as him.
