Another month passes, and another Japanese top-level player collaboration tier list has once again put Mewtwo in mid tier

People should check out Nietonos twitch sometime, he pulls out Mewtwo rarely but when he does, its glorious.
I've heard Japan meta is very spacing-based, and Mewtwo does happen to be pretty good at that. Though it begs the question as to why Marth is so low...

Was our teleport bouncing off the side of the stage glitch fixed? I've been attempting it on Boxing Ring and haven't been able to replicate it.

Keep in mind teleports are very analog-sensitive, ie. you're not restricted to just up, diagonal up-left etc.

Though to be honest those kinds of deaths are easy to avoid once you know what to watch out for (basically don't slip under the lip of the stage and teleport too early).

I used to have that trouble all the time, but then I went into the training room for three hours and now I can auto snap from practically anywhere.

Greetings all! Name's Krysco and I'm gonna see about frequenting this board since I've gotten skilled enough with psychic cat to consider him my 4th best character (only behind :4metaknight::4rob:and:4kirby:). I only really play FG dubs with my cousin but starting next year I should be able to go to tournaments and depending how my skill as a player progresses and any patches between now and then, I might choose to use Mewtwo a bit.

Got him early since I owned both the 3DS and Wii U versions and I liked him in Melee. Didn't really pick him up legitimately till last month since I was focusing on my better characters. Love how tricky and slippery he can be with Shadow Ball recoil, Confusion, djc, Teleport and ledge cancels.

I don't buy it. Kirby and Lucas THAT low? Not a chance! I call shenanigans. And Samus is not that bad, especially after this patch.

They play different characters then what we play over here. They actually have a good DHD main! Plus, there game is more defensive, mking aggressive characters less likely to be used.

Only by relativity and from a strict tier-only mentality, if even that. The things Mewtwo lost from Melee besides weight and charging damage (wavedashing and double-jump canceling) are universal changes that affect the whole cast.

It's like saying Zelda was nerfed between Melee and Brawl just because she's in a relatively worse spot on the tier list in Brawl.

It's just hard to see Smash 4 Mewtwo as a worse character compared to Melee when you look at:mewtwomelee:'s awkward idle hurtbox, pathetic dash attack, two specials that get him punished for landing them more often than not (and one of which doesn't even do it's secondary role properly) and smashes (plus a meteor) that are unacceptably weak for their speed.

Yeah i know dude lol. Melee mechanics just made him better(chain grab, his vertical combos, movement etc.)Mewtwo's actual moveset feels better now but thats it really

I hope that one day Mega Pidgeot becomes able to learn Focus Blast. 100% accurate Hurricanes are already devastating so imagine what it would do with that move as well.

I hope that one day Mewtwo gets a third mega evolution that has an awesome ability, doesn't look silly, and doesn't need a mega stone to evolve. I mean, I like Rayquaza and all, but Mewtwo deserves to be at least as stupidly OP as that guy after mega evolving.

Also, they need to make Wish and egg move for Chansey. I really want a Wish Passer Chansey for my rotation team on Showdown, but getting a legitimate one with good IVs is probably not going to happen.

IMO he has good grabs and throws shadow ball is actually effective the side b and down b are much more effective and he seems to have a bit more weight compared to last time.
Hue hue hue

I'm at work but I feel like this post disagrees with me about like everything.

Edit: I am off work so lemme say this stuff.

His grabs are okay except dthrow which is bad. Don't use it. Worst part about Mewtwo's grabs in general is actually grabbing the opponent unless they are Bowser or any other fat thing. Dash Grab range also Ganondorf bad. Uthrow is pretty great since it can't be DI'd for the most part. And is probably really great with Rage mechanics...IF YOU LIVE THAT LONG.

Shadow Ball is kinda worse kinda better. Does not damage opponents during charge but you can store a charge by shielding and slowly max it out or not max it out for dem reads. Getting hit during a charge state however makes you lose your charge. Aerial Ball also has crazy momentum knockback.

Side B is only more effective at reflecting stuff, otherwise as a command grab it is still crap. Basically land it get your 8% and then shield and react to the opponents reaction. Now in the air it's like another jump and you can turn yourself around. Really really technical in application.

Disable is a huge risk move and is mostly really really situational. So it's still bad. You have to hit them in front as it has no effect from the rear. Oh and Shields block it. So does Super Armor. So much for direct eye contact.

If by weight you you mean you feel his attacks have more weight to them then yeah sure.

But if you mean by his actual weight value it's actually worse as being the second lightest character in the game.

Here's a Palutena's Guidance I came up with for Mewtwo :)

OH-MY-SELF... Is that really Mewtwo?!

It certainly appears to be the case!

I can't believe it!

What's so special about Mewtwo?

It's a legendary Pokémon for starters, and it also happens to be the most powerful Pokémon in existence!

I thought that title belonged to Arceus.

Well, if Mewtwo Mega Evolves, it dethrones Arceus as the strongest Pokémon out there!

Mewtwo is the result of a scientific experiment gone horribly wrong. They intended to make Mewtwo the most powerful Pokémon in existence...

And they succeeded!

As a result of this, Mewtwo acquired insanely powerful psychic powers.

Um, that's intimidating... I'm scared, Lady Palutena!

Listen, Pit. Just don't let Mewtwo grab you. It's got two of the strongest throws of all fighters in his Back and Up throws.

And if it throws one of its mighty Shadow Balls at you, get ready to deflect it with your Guardian Orbitars!

Too bad those aren't the only tricks I've got under my sleeve!

HUH?!

How can it hear us?!

Well, since it's psychic, it can use telepathy, just like us!

Prepare to fight me! Although there's no point in that. I cannot lose!

We'll see about that!

Give it your best shot, Pit, and don't hold back!

The biggest thing I disagree with is Dthrow being bad, it has it's uses. Especially to start a tech chase or a platform kill as it can land the opponent directly on a platform.

Also, I wish SB had the crazy zig-zag it had in melee, that would be great.

You don't need a lot of rage to make uthrow better. At 80-90% which is considered average life expectancy for Mewtwo it already gets like 10% shaved off which is pretty nice.

Losing charge due to getting hit in the process applies to everyone with a charge move. Aerial recoil is really helpful once you learn to use it.

Confusion IS more effective as a command grab, not only does it have more range but also Mewtwo actually has time to raise his shield for the opponent's attack unlike Melee where he'd just get hit no matter what. The lack of true followups (except when used in the air) just highlights it's use as a defensive move.

Disable is risky and situational, but definitely not as much as moves like Falcon Punch or Jet Hammer. You can swiftly punish very laggy moves when they whiff, and it has enough to be spaced safely most of the time. I'm also not sure about armour blocking it... I've stunned Ryu out of Focus Attack a few times, and shouldn't Bowser's tough guy attribute make the move 100% ineffective on account of being a 1% move with set knockback?

I've had Ganon's SA WP say no to Disable every time.

Bowser's Tough Guy isn't SA at all. Only super weak attacks don't cause flinch. Which helps in like 2 matchups but that's it.

Ryu's focus attack might be interesting if you can not worry about it unless you got 2 hits in somehow, Focus only negates one single hit. It actually isn't true SA but rather a unique move with unique properties.

as I remember, all "effects" on a move will still happen even if in super armor/heavy armor or not

example is the "cape" effect from (Dr) Mario always happen even in super armor

"Ice"/Freeze effect always happens, "Bury" always happens, "Sleep" and "Stun" always happens if I recall right!

I will test this later tho, too late for me to test

edit: I was wrong, super armor is immune to all effect excluding cape, but heavy armor isnt that resistance against effects

How do you guys deal with falcon? I hate his dash grab and jab is also really annoying
Well, there's this: http://smashboards.com/threads/match-up-discussion-vs-captain-falcon.420092/

The key to fighting Falcon, and most characters that like to dash in is judicious use of dtilt, the low-endlag dsmash, shadow balls to slow them down and confusion if they like to shield when they get close.

You'll quickly come to realize that many characters can attack faster than Mewtwo can up close, so try to avoid those situations as best as you can or be ready to jab at a moment's notice.

You know something that is bothering me about our community?? The complaining about certain characters being "OP" or "too strong" is just getting ridiculously out of hand.
With the advent of balance patches, everyone is always wishing for who might get nerfed or buffed and that's alright, but then we have those who complain to loud about X character being to overpowered and should get a nerf ASAP like Mario. Freaking MARIO!! Don't get me wrong, he is a good character but in the grand scheme of things I wouldn't call him OP nor near as problematic as Brawl MK or Vanilla Diddy, but for some people he is just too much to handle and unreasonably demand him to be nerfed to the ground.

What happened to those days when people would focus on getting better at the game instead? Patches have done and can still do good for Smash 4 as it is, but it has also created the side effect on making a lot of people too complacent and thus give up any opportunity to learn their respective matchups, opting for waiting for that magic update to finally "fix" the characters they are having problems against. I hate to sound like one of those "git gud" guys but... getting good is the most effective way at the end of the day. Seeing the community now in places like GameFaqs, or I should say ScrubFaqs, makes me wonder how we even managed to get through three games in a row without any balance patches.

Like some user around here used to say:
"OMG Link is OP"
"OMG Ganon is OP"
"OMG Falcon is OP"

For crying out loud.

This is soooo annoying, especially when the current game is really balanced. I kinda can't wait for patches to discontinue lmao

I agree with this. the only "OP" **** is basically ZSS and Shiek but they are still beatable.

at the launch, I do understand why many saying stuff is OP (looking at Diddy) but at the place as Smash is now, its pretty balanced and now where we stand its much better to actually buff the "bad ones" than nerf the "good ones" (except Shiek and ZSS which deserves nerfs my opinion)

I'm in agreement with Sheik and ZSS. Fight a good one and it's gonna be an uphill battle where one mistake could cost you.

It has been a year since Mewtwo was confirmed for Smash 4. It's been a wild ride. :D
