The idea of Neku Sakuraba from TWEWY came to my head after I reviewed Brave's stats.
Floaty, Zoner, Average height, No rapid jab...
It's not going to happen, but he's still another really cool character that most people tend to forget about. In fact, there's so many interesting Square characters that I would love to see in Smash, that it feels sad that we are currently praying for even a single one to get in. The best part about adding some characters to Smash is watching their popularity and their franchise's popularity grow. And with a bigger popularity, there's a chance for more games from that franchise being released. I really hope that if there's a next Smash game, they have a bigger focus on newcomer franchises, so they can also have their day on the limelight.

Hornet DLC info for Hollow Knight
Cuphead port for Switch
What Remains of Edith Finch for Switch

Smash character reveal. Indie or not, reveal them anyway (though maybe a reveal at PAX East would be better).

Saw everyone doing this a couple pages ago & decided to throw my hat into the ring.

Geno - I haven’t played Mario RPG (recently got a SNES Mini so it’s in the backlog), but Geno seems like a really neat character. I like him through his design alone. I feel bad for the hardcore Geno guys since they saw Ridley/K Rool guys finally get their characters. But I don’t think Geno is happening; if he was, he wouldn’t have gotten a spirit. Maybe this could change with a potential season 2, but I’d just wait for Smash 6 tbh.

Sora - Sora’s one of my most wanted characters. He’s super popular in both the East & West, as well as hailing from a critically acclaimed series. Sora would also be a good way to represent Disney’s presence in gaming. He has a ton of potential for a fun moveset as well.

Crono - Crono would be cool, especially since he’s from an iconic SNES game. But I don’t think he has a chance. The series isn’t relevant (sadly) & he doesn’t have a ton of support from the Smash community.

Sephiroth - Sephiroth wouldn’t be a bad pick since he’s one of the most popular game villains of all-time. Plus, FF7 is large/important enough to deserve two reps. But I don’t see him happening either. I feel both Sakurai & Square would choose another FF character. I’d imagine either Terra or Noctis.

Erdrick - The frontrunner. I’m super “Meh” on Dragon Quest as a series, but I understand it’s cultural significance in Japan. & from what I understand, Dragon Quest 3 is the game that really cemented the series’ status as a classic. He’s far from my ideal pick, but I’ve grown to accept him. Maybe if we get the super Japanese pick of a DQ character, they’ll give us a super western character to balance things out. ;)

Slime - Yeeeeeeah no. I feel this would be like a joke character & I’d rather have a DQ protag lol

Luminary - Ehhhh, I feel it’d sort of be a shill pick. But the game is well received & he looks like Android 17 so *shrugs*

2B - Adding her because I really want her in. She’s a very recent character, but so is Joker. Much like Joker, I think she’ll be seen as one of the defining characters (& games) of this generation. Nier: Automata is a masterpiece. 2B would have a super fun moveset, as well as bringing some fantastic music with her as well. Due to Automata’s success, Square wants to make Nier one of their main franchises; an appearance in Smash could definitely help with that.

If we're getting a February Direct, I'm expecting a Piranha plant shadow drop or at the very least a "available tomorrow!" there, so maybe the 14th?

A general Direct somewhere around February 4th and 15th, drop Plant's release date, show Joker's gameplay, and in the best scenario, announce the next character. That's more or less what I'd see happening.

Nah, I would expect the direct on the February 7th since Nindies showcase can means that direct would be announced two weeks later

also, brace yourself if NoA tweets about nindies one week later because NoE kinda of did tweeted about nindie but there was nothing on NoA twitter about it.

Frankly, you don't even need art to know it's fake. I mean, look at Velvet's attire, does that look like something CERO would approve of? Kind of ironic for a character who wears literal garbage. Still, good fanart.

There's a reason my criticism of Geno doesn't end there, I mean "I find him to be a bad representative from his series and from his parent company." is part of the criticism too. While Crono's game originally released around the same time, his game had a sequel (of which Crono had a storyline cameo in) and a remake with new content. I'd consider Crono more active as a character than Geno fwiw.

I expect a Nintendo Direct February 1st. Mostly because of Piranha Plant. It was already almost done when it was revealed, since it apparently already had most of it's moves and it's model seemed done, it's preorder time expires January 31, so it would make sense to have it out by that time. If not a Direct, they will at least announce that its out by a tweet or update in the game. But I still expect a Direct to happen between February 1st and February 15th.

Ooh, I'd absolutely love Velvet as the Tales Of rep. I like her just as much as Lloyd.

It's funny, Xillia 2 is my favorite Tales game but I don't want playable Ludger in Smash. Now playable Rideaux, on the other hand...

I don't agree with the above post about Geno, but Fatman is a pretty well-regarded individual and he used data to back up everything he said so while he was the first one to call it out, its more than just some random guy making things up on the internet.

The thing about Brave is that while the codename fits Erdrick better than everyone, the stats fit others better than him, so it becomes hard to guess who it is.

I don't think Brave is Erdrick, but I wouldn't say he's off the table. Tansut said that they wouldn't be announced soon if I recall.

Essentially, it's one out of five different "Drive" forms that Sora can take on for altered abilities and movesets. Could potentially see that coming into play if he got into Smash. Also, it's often the Drive form that first comes to mind since it's the first you get and the one you're most likely to use until maybe Master Form enters the equation.

Image is hard to read but here are my issues with it.
-Some parameters like Height and Weight are difficult to use to measure Geno. Weight seems to be adjusted for balance rather than actual weight. And Height with Geno is difficult to read from the pic, plus he would probably be redesigned so his size could vary quite a bit from SMRPG.
-A lot of the arguments come with weird explanations like floatiness due to magic
-The zoner explanation is poor as there are quite a few zoner guys and you can be a bit more specific, you could've opened with the stats being similar to these characters which some have weird hitboxes or focused in mid-range zoning
-You mention the skid but never use it for anything
-All in all, the image seems to be more focused on why its not Erdrick or Sora and why its Geno. You should only focus on how it fits Geno

Playing zoners over the span of 3 titles has lead me to confirm that Brave has stats of a zoner. Which if we are getting Erdrick, I see him being a Toon Link/Robin Hybrid since Toon Link is a floaty zoner. The stats are currently well suited for Geno with the height and speed being the biggest thing going for him.

Two keen points. First off, SE holding off the release dates of FFVII and IX is a bit curious. Why would they hold those off unless they have something more interesting to reveal related to one or both of them? Remake being announced for Switch could be one thing, but Smash would also suffice, and it might finally actually give Square the push to allow more Final Fantasy music into Smash Ultimate finally.

The stats themselves now. Yeah, they aren't final, and even still, we still don't exactly know what the height totally represents considering how Bowser supposedly has a higher height stat than Ridley. Lack of quick jab does fit Sephiroth's sword. And between Masamune and his magic, dude's an easy fit for a zoner. Slippery and floaty? Check. Can't wall jump? Fair enough.

But you know what? Let's imagine that those stats are a work in progress. Now, let's imagine Square and Nintendo are aware of this Erdrick deal. Let's be honest, it's been EVERYWHERE on the net so they must know. yet no retaliations have come. Sure, some could argue that it would give them away, but maybe the reason they're not retaliating, isn't because this was all part of the plan (at least at first), but maybe folks are being bamboozled thinking that the stats are Erdrick and not someone else. Essentially, if it is Sephiroth, the stats don't paint a full picture enough at the moment, they could change at any point in time as Cloud showed us back with Smash 4 in his datamining before and after his reveal.

So, depending on what phase our mystery fighter is in, it could be many folk. Sephiroth, being no exception. And the reason no action has been taken by the companies is because there's no need given the assumptions that many have jumped into bed with.

The characters that fit the stats the most are Sora, Geno and Slime. But the codename makes it so Erdrick is likely, despite the fact that these stats look too weird to be Erdrick's. So if we ignore or take into consideration the codename, I think the most likely characters are these:

Taking the codename into consideration:
Erdrick > Slime > Sora > Geno > Luminary > Crono > Sephiroth

Ignoring the codename:
Sora > Geno > Slime > Crono > Erdrick > Luminary > Sephiroth

The main thing going for the DQ boys is the codename, but without it, Slime is the only one I think fits the stats.
Sora fits a lot of these stats, with the only odd one being the weight.
Geno also fits the stats quite well, but the floatyness is the thing that keeps him from fitting them better than Sora.
Crono seems to fit most of these, except for maybe the floaty part. He gets less demand than the above ones, so I think they are priority in Nintendo's eyes.
Sephiroth doesn't really fit the stats, mostly because of the height and zoner part. Also, I doubt Nintendo would add another FF7 rep instead of other games.

So I'm gonna give my perspective on the Square Seven as someone who doesn't know much about any of them

Erdrick: Kinda plain looking, and seems a little boring. He seems like his moveset could be pretty cool with his magic stuff though, and if he uses a shield as a part of his moveset rather then it just being there like Link's, I'll be interested.
Slime: no
Sora: Anime boy with goofy shoes and a giant keysword who also flies around and would have a hella cool moveset, sign me up.
Geno: Cool character design, and he has a gun. I kinda want him just because his fans have been clamoring for decades now.
Luminary: Like Erdrick but with a better character design and no shield, an interesting trade-off. I want him a bit more then Erdrick.
Crono: He has time powers, right? Sounds sick
Sephiroth: I want him mainly to see how they handle his massive af sword, also he can do some craaaazy **** with his attacks from what I've seen of his battle in FF7

Crono from what I recall doesn't have time powers but powers of light I believe
