Ranking one player in two regions sort of defeats the whole purpose of regional power rankings, no?

Suppose we could get the panelists from NorCal and SoCal together and do a California Power Ranking, but eh.

To be a little off-topic, a fantasy league of smash players would be pretty kickass (assuming there isn't one already).

I don't see why he can't be ranked in both regions.

If he took residence in the region, and he attended enough tournaments to be considered active, he should be ranked.

Zhu attended 2 active gamers tournametns in socal, and had become a resident towards the end.
MacD has clearly been a resident of Socal as well.

They could both be ranked in socal, as well as norcal for this period.

Or are we trying to rank players that currently represent our region? In a way where you'd rank joe based on his performances in Socal as if he was a Norcal player playing out of region?
I guess that works.
well rankings should be meant to reflect the status of the community at the moment of the update, not over the entirety of the previous period

so who's living in socal on september 29 and probably for the near future (as in not happening to be there that day on vacation or something) should be the qualifier

Alright well my current suggestion is

we form a new panel, that new panel decides on the mission statement of the PR, then creates a new PR, possibly extending to top 15

I really don't think it will be much different from what it is now, but we can discuss that later

my ideal PR would be
Mango (almost out of necessity, his opinion of skill counts for a lot)
HugS (obvious choice)
me (i do stuff, go to every tournament pretty much)
Atlus (assuming he goes to tournaments)

If not I would put Zhu instead of atlus but i dont think zhu cares that much right now

also fly im not ignoring you, you're pretty much right but i think a lot of that problem (or almost all of the problem) revolves around the goal of the PR, so once that gets fixed a lot will fall into place

That would be much better, but my only suggestion is to remove Atlus from the list(Hugo is already a representative for the 818). The three of you would work better anyway. If you must add another person, why not try P (assuming he doesn't mind).

That would be a much greater panel. But even if it's just the three of you, it would still be great.

Yeah, I don't like having four people on the panel! S#!+ has to be an odd number! If I don't enter enough tournies by the next update then I'll be glad to give up my spot to Hugs (assuming he stays active!)

Edit - double post f***en sux! Waste of internet!

If we ever do make a California Power Rankings List, I'd suspect some consequences to be:

1) Problems with the size (top 15 / etc.)

-> If it's small, it'll be hard to get on (good and bad)
-> If it's big, it'll be more inaccurate at the end than it usually is

2) A drop in update frequency
3) General inaccuracy

Although it sounds nice to have, I don't think it's better for the community. The original US power rankings were quite inaccurate. No one could really do anything to get on the list that had 2 or 3 updates (I think KoreanDJ pulled a PinkShinobi and just hit top 5 or something outta nowhere). We had to wait for national tournaments for that darn thing...which is helpfully analogous to what we'd have to do.

I vote no to california power rankings.

That little (red) kid completely represents Lovage's fox's style.

Young, fast, and junky.
Word.

Cali Power Rankings wouldn't be that hard. The norcal and socal ones are updated infrequently so it's not like it matters how often it gets updated. It might require a little more "handwaving" than the regional ones do, but I don't think that's a solid enough reason not to do it. As for the number's concern, that's a really weak reason. You could fairly easily do 20-25, starting with each regions PRs and then working from there.

Atlus: I'm far from qualified and too lazy to look up all the results, but I don't think it'd be that hard for a motivated panel. The top 10 is pretty easy [I think the hardest part is placing Hugo]. After that it gets harder, but using results I'm pretty confident I could make a decent list.

I'm not nearly motivated enough to do it myself, because you need to look at results from both sides and I rarely know the results for tournaments I didn't go to or care about. Plus, I'm not nearly qualified to make decisions based on skill when the results don't clearly show who is better. I can post my top 10 if that would make you happy, but I'm not going to spend time doing more.

I'm a total scrub who's nowhere near the skill level of any of these players so I have no expectation of this being accepted; blast away

only bothered to post it since there was a challenge presented and brian pussied out

I really don't think it's that super difficult, but I also don't think it necessarily presents any purpose unless we as a state commit to playing each other more frequently (like it seems is happening, with socal coming for CGC!)

why is boss hosting tournies still, gtfo
people wanted a tourney and i delivered, make urself useful and film a montage.

why doesn't atlus enter tournies, gtfo
he doesnt.

what's wrong with kira being a panelist

he's extremely active in the community and not stupid

you should stop posting
yea, kira is very active in the community as a tourney host, participant, and as an avid poster.

I personally don't like how all the panelists are from the same part of socal. The rankings should basically say Irvine Area PR. My opinion is to have a representative from each main region of socal, i.e. Deep socal, Irvine Area, SD, exc. Hugs would also make a good panelist; and top 15 wouldnt be a bad idea seeing as though the talent in socal is starting to be pretty impressive.

kfc has top 10 [in cali] ability
if he played at his best all the time there would be no doubt in my mind he's above phil and kira and maybe even someone like larry

but he's way inconsistent

i tend to champion for him when people discuss rankings because i always think about the times he ***** and forget about when he lost to macd [and chris and sheridan etc]
