This is more of a suggestion:

Couldn't you just delete unused accounts, like that haven't been used in over a year to make it easy on the servers. I'm guessing it would make SWF a little less slow.

The problem is not all these old users, it's just that there's so many active at the one time. Think of it as the shops. It doesn't matter how many people have shopepd there, it's slow when the store is packed with people.

You don't pay for it, we give it to you to show our thanks for you donating. We don't allow everyone to change their avatars at will because, with so many people, it causes a strain on our servers, as well as the fact that it's hard to police so many avatars with so many members.
Then will you ever take avatar suggestions? like have a avatar making contest to get new good ones for everyone to use?

New question! Any chance we can get a spoiler-free Brawl room?... Or would it not be worth it because of ***hats going into it and spamming spoilers?

Okay, now that we got that, any chance we can get spoiler-free "headlines"? That would save others the sadness I just got from one. I just got

spoiled for me:(

I don't know if it relates to the site as much as the community, but here goes...

I'll soon be attending a Brawl tournament at a game store. However, as I've asked this individual who runs the store, he said the tournament would be purely by word of mouth. Local, hearing about it only by anyone that goes to the store. Is it bad/against the rules to promote (via thread) a tournament that somebody else has created when the tournament isn't created by you?

Nope, I myself have 'advertised' tournaments that Nintendo ran near me (admittedly they were few and far between, but that's beside the point.)

Just make sure to point out that you're not running it, and any contact details for those running it (IE, a link to the stores website if it's advertised there or whatever.

Question-

Me, like alot of people on these boards are having trouble putting pictures into our signatures. On my edit signature page my signature permissions read like this

Allow Basic BBCode Yes
Allow Color BBCode Yes
Allow Size BBCode Yes
Allow Font BBCode Yes
Allow Alignment BBCode Yes
Allow List BBCode Yes
Allow Link BBCode Yes
Allow HTML No

Allow Code No[/B][/U]
Allow Code BBCode Yes
Allow PHP BBCode Yes
Allow HTML BBCode Yes
Allow Quote BBCode Yes
Allow Smilies Yes
[U][B]Can Upload Images for Signature No
Can Upload Animated GIF for Signature No[/B][/U]

[B]There is also a lack of "insert image" icon present on my edit signature page. I know it's nothing to do with post count or time spent on the boards. So how do I resolve this?

Also there is a thread in the welcome forums which shows other people experiencing the same problem.

Please mods, change the the amount of posts that we have to have to be able to use images in our signatures. I would recommend making it be 15 to 20 posts to get the privilege. I saw someone with about 40 posts and he's still not able to use images... I don't know, seems kind of ridiculous to me... >.>

i might be wrong about this but i believe that it is not how may post you got but how long you have been active on the boards that determine if you can put images in your signature...i could be totally though.

*QUESTION*

I have been having this problem with the boards lately...were it is working fine when i log in but as soon as i try to got to a thread it logs me out and goes to the page for you to register to use the boards...is this just my computer acting up or is it due to the fact of many people being active in the boards?

onii-chan: you should try clearing your cookies. It seems most of the time doing that clears up the issue for people, but I don't think it's related to server load or anything like that.

Will there be an update to the Smash Brawl avatar set? I seriously want to have a Wolf avatar without having to require a premium sign-up, so I don't mind if there are one or two Wolf images in it.

I have a question similar to onii-chan's, but slightly different...

I can click any link on the site, except for the logo with Bowser & 'Smashboards The Largest Smash Bros Community' (I'm using Revolution skin). Every time I click that link, I'm logged out. It isn't a big deal, really. It's just a habit of mine to get back to the home page. I just thought it was worth noting. Is it a new thing with the site, my computer, etc.?

Suggestions:

Lighter Forum Skin
Could there be a light forum skin option? Light Grey or White or something? Lots of people (like myself) do not like white on black and prefer our sites to be black on white. It would really make surfing this site a lot easier on my eyes. I asked this before but was passed over.

Custom avatars, get rid of images in sigs
Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to let us use off-site avatars? First of all, it would make users easier to identify as they wouldn't all have the same avatar. Secondly, it should lessen strain on the servers as we'd be getting the avatars from tinypic, photobucket, etc instead of the SmashBoards server. Thirdly, if you get rid of image sigs which people seem to use to identify themselves in the absence of avatars, we'd need less scrolling as people include huge picture sigs to identify themselves.

Sig Questions

I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but I spent some time trying to search this and was not very successful (probably because I'm not yet entirely familiar with the format for this forum).

I would like to post a sig made for me, but it says under my sig editor that the IMG code is not allowed. Is there a way for me to fix that?

Thanks.

Yeah, the nodes is server based. We're in the process of getting a new server (be our third) and that should fix it.

Suggestion:

Make a Sub-Forum in Tournament Discussion that can only be posted in by Backroom members, but viewable by anyone
Ok, this is a bit of a long suggestion. Anyway, this is an idea I saw over at Smogon, a competitive Pokemon website. They're trying something new which I really like. Usually, like in Smash, the decisions are made by the ones who really do know what they're doing. The equivalent to the Back Room you could say. Like the Back Room, it was usually done in a forum not viewable to the public. This meant that most regular users did not know why certain Pokemon were banned or why the tier list was as it was.

Now, they've created a new forum that is viewable by everyone, but can only be posted on by certain members. I think this would work very well for Smash as well. Nobody except the Backroom knows why the tier lists look the way they do unless we ask specifically. That just wastes more time with the SBR people having to answer questions again. Also, most people don't even know why stages are banned. If we could see the discussions as they happen, I think it'd be very helpful.

Obviously do NOT let just anyone post, just set the permissions so SBR can post, others can read-only. Like the Forum Announcements where I believe only Admins can post and we can't.

This is the Smogon Sub-Forum: http://www.smogon.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=63
This is the Smogon equivalent of General Brawl Discussion: http://www.smogon.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=43

Hiemie Laws, many of them are out of date. A Youtube topic is stickied, this is starting to look more and more like an angry debate hall, and (though I guess this could go hand in hand with what I just said) the existence of God, Yahweh, Nirvana, etc. is constantly brought up, despite it saying that none of this should be going on. Since it seems that this is now OK with the mods, can we get a revision of the Hiemie Laws around here? Also, I remember a Colin Mochrie being stickied at one point, why was this ever taken down?

I personally liked it better when it was advised to bring the religion debates to PMs and IMs or encouraged to post in the Debate Hall (or keep it to yourself like the original Hiemie Laws said), seemed a lot less tense around here, and was certainly more friendlier. Not to say that serious topics can't exist, but a lot of people just don't know how to act and have trouble with self-constraint and tolerance. Those topics (discussing religion) almost never end well since it's not friends talking (or at least people who don't know each other very well unless they've talked outside of SWF), it's random people who most likely already have their minds made up about the subject. Basically,
Matt said:
Skippy Bojangles declares his love for Christianity and makes a thinly veiled attempt at converting people, then Bitter McMuffinface comes along and declares his undying hatred for religion. The two argue ad infinitum.
And that's not including each side declaring that the other deserves to be the most hated thing in the world.

Also, shouldn't the Brawl Boards have a video discussion like the Melee boards do?

EDIT: The video disc. and other Brawl stuff were added to the index a DAY after I asked about it.

While I can't speak for the Pool Room stuff, the Brawl boards do have a video room.

Well, as we all know, you've got a lot of experience there. ;)

I'm continually surprised by how selective the answers to these "official" questions are. The need for administrative competence on the PR side of things is such an absolutely necessary function for a community of this size that it just makes all of Smash World look like a bush league next to both significantly smaller forums, and larger ones too. Kinda like making a wiki on a web-hosting-for-noobs platform like Wikia.
