I’m not sure how we’re doing the Fighters Pass. Is it all characters are being submitted now? If that’s the case, I’ll back Aegis.

Ideally, I’d have them be moved up to Challenger Pack 4.

I was going to add one character at a time, but I can change the formatting if that’s preferred. My other suggestion was for everyone to suggest five fighters, and the five most suggested characters appear.

One of the original protagonists of a longstanding series with a surprisingly rich Nintendo history. Thinking about who to announce first, someone who can shock audiences the way Joker did, I think the tonal dissonance of Resident Evil against what people expect of Smash Bros would strike the same chord. I also believe implementing the essence of a horror game into a playable character would be fun, with an emphasis on resource management and potentially some themed summons like in Marvel vs Capcom 2 (zombie hands pop out of the ground?).

I love Terry but don't know if he's big enough to open a a season. I think you need someone on the level of Joker.

Steve and Terry are characters that I think we should add, but would rather wait until slightly later. I want to set a precedent for us to take chances with new characters, since it’s more interesting than simply playing by Smash’s existing rulebook. Although I think Steve would do just fine as the first DLC character.

Still, I’m advocating for Hero first. Dragon Quest just makes sense to be here. Jill and Hayabusa fit right in so they get next dibs, with Jill taking some precedent over Hayabusa for the surprise factor.

Here are the votes:
Terry 8
Hero 15
Ryu 5
Steve 7
Jill 19

Jill Valentine is our first Challenger Pass fighter.

Job 59: Submit for the Challenger Pass 2 Fighter.

I’ll nominate Terry here because of Fatal Fury’s influence for fighting games, and opening the fighter’s pass with a new third party company seems like a neat idea.

I considered going with Lloyd or a Falcom character instead but I really do think this is one of the best picks that we could make from a legacy and popularity (in Japan) stand point. Really unique (for better or worse) moveset too.

Lloyd Irving (Tales of Sympho)
I want Bandai Namco to get another character sooner than real life. Lloyd fights with two swords, so his move set would be unique.

As far as the RPG boys go, it isn’t very close frankly. Dragon Quest is overwhelmingly important and I think Hero was a great addition. The second character is a pretty good place for him. I’ll give Terry my backup vote because I’d like him to make the cut too, although it should probably happen a bit later.

Lloyd is fine but maybe FP2 material instead.

Crash Bandicoot
Fills a similar role to Banjo, being a 90s platforming character who would fit alongside Sonic and Mario. I'm not Even. Big fan of his games but I know it would make people happy.

Now feels like the best time for Steve, with Banjo on the base roster. Although I’d like to see a bit more of a subdued reveal as well, something less massive than Resident Evil or Dragon Quest, so I’m partial to Terry as well. Both are characters I expect to see make the cut in this pass either way.

Don’t care that much about Crash but he’d work too I guess. Scrimblo for scrimblo tradeoff.

Steve is the next DLC fighter.

Job 61: Nominate a Challenger Pass 4 Fighter.

I’ll nominate Byleth as Three Houses was released around the time of the Fighters’s Pass, and adding her/him as Challenger Pass 4 would help produce more hype for Challenger Pass 5.

Scorpion (Mortal Kombat)
He's from a fighting game and would add a new company to Smash. Unlike Terry, he would be better received.

Now feels like a good time to get a first party in the DLC. Not being the last character will keep expectations in check.

Kyo Kusanagi (King of Fighters),
I still quite like the idea of adding an SNK character but also don't want all our characters to be the same as they where in the real world. Kyo is the original protagonist of KOF and I figure could have a cool moveset with his fire based attacks and combos, and could even summon Iori and Chizuru for his final smash.
