We'll go with Wario Wario Wario's colors and entry animation, as there were no other submissions. Taunts, victory animations, and the Boxing Ring title will remain open, as no submissions for them were made. All there is to vote on currently is Classic Mode.

Congratulations Screen: PaRappa in Kapp'n's bus driving through Prism Tower.
PaRappa Classic Route: Anything But Noodles!
Each battle is themed on a different type of food, and has that respective food as the only item. This references the plot of PaRappa 2, where all food in the world (and also hair) is being turned into noodles.

Credits: Full Tank

Congratulations picture: Ness with a rocket belt approaching a giant Bowser with Bewear beneath on Omega New Donk (reference to the Jet Baby intros in the PaRappa games)
Please vote for your #1 favorite of these. You may vote your own (which I do). Also, feel free to brainstorm PaRappa DLC Spirit Boards and Mii Costume waves, as well as CP2 criteria. (Don't actually submit them yet)

Boxing Ring title: The Man with the Master Plan

Victory animation: PaRappa does a victory split dance and earnestly praises the foe "Better luck next time, you did great!"

Taunt: PaRappa stomps on his skateboard to make it fly over him, he catches it before it lands, after which it turns into a turntable for him to briefly scratch. PaRappa exclaims "Dojo! Casino! It's all in the mind!"

Clapping: PaRappa gives a cheerful clap, and occasionally stops to give two thumbs up.

"The Power of Music" wins the Classic Mode vote.

Now, to (mostly) finish PaRappa, we are accepting submissions for his DLC Spirit Board and our Mii Costume Wave 1. (Limiting them to 16 or fewer spirits and 6 or fewer costumes is preferred.) Also, don't forget to think about criteria for CP2!

Costumes:
Master Onion (Brawler)
Kratos (Swordsman.)
Aloy (Gunner. Uses a bow.)
Sackboy (Brawler.)
Rachet (Gunner)
Monkey (Ape Escape. Brawler.)

Went for the the big Sony faces (and also funny monkey). Went with who I think would fit well, avoiding more realistic characters such as Nathan Drake or Joel/Ellie

Wario Wario Wario's spirits and Darkonedagger's Mii costumes both win by default.

Now, it'd finally time to move on to Challenger Pack 2! First up, the criteria. As a refresher, the canon CP2 was Hero from Dragon Quest, announced at E3 2019 and released that July. Come up with criteria that Hero falls under that could lead to a big (first) E3 reveal!

A character who could be considered a historical predecessor to a game already represented.

Hero can be considered this for EarthBound, Final Fantasy, and Pokémon among others. Some examples of fighters we could add in this category are Joust for Balloon Fight, Jet Set Willy for Metroid and Castlevania, and Ultima for the many RPG characters

Could be considered a historical predecessor to a game already represented ( Wario Wario Wario Wario Wario Wario )
Pre-90s third party character ( Yiptap Yiptap )
RPG character ( Tankman from Newgrounds Tankman from Newgrounds )
Character with multiple versions or characters as alts (@Darkonedagger )

Please vote for your top 2; 2 points for #1 and 1 point for #2. You may vote your own for #2.

Also, a small announcement: if you see anything on the OP listed as "(Open)," you may feel free to submit for it at any time. Also, I will be accepting submissions for reveal trailers for our confirmed combatants outside of the submission/voting cycle. Open content and trailers will not be voted on and be treated as first-come-first-served (though more complete/high-quality submissions may be allowed to supplant older ones).

1. Multiple versions
2. Historical predecessor

PaRappa trailer for TGA
The trailer begins with a battle between Mario and Sonic on Battlefield, Mario swiftly knocks out Sonic and, cut to CG, he wipes his hands and adjusts his hat - not noticing the sky around him turn white and the floor fade away - a familiar sound is heard and nanoseconds after it starts, Mario is knocked away by an orange burst of blinding light - he rubs his eyes to look up and sees an orange diamond shape, the area turns dark and a "PS" logo appears, Mario glancing in awe like Inkling before him - a world forms around him, a red floor and walls, gaining a green mat and windows with sunset mountain behind, somewhat scared but braced for a fight Mario looks around and sees a new challenger - the camera shows a foot planted on a face-bearing beatbox and it zooms up to reveal the hip hop hero himself. "I gotta believe!" He exclaims as it zooms out to show his full body.
PaRappa the Rapper has entered the station!

Literally all of these characters work for the character I want. But I'm personally voting on the ones that seem interesting.

2. Pre 90s

Knight & Ostrich (Joust)

Knight & Ostrich are the predecessor to one of Smash's most recurring non-playable series: Balloon Fight. In gameplay they would be a unique steed-bound swordfigher-heavyweight with a good air game. The Knight's sword wouldn't be used for heavy slashes as much as graceful fences, while the Ostrich's bird claws would handle the heavy duty attacks. There could also be egg laying, or even an egg shield like Yoshi's given that knights hatch from eggs in Joust. In Joust 2 the Ostrich can transform into a pegasus, but I'm not sure if that could be implimented.

K&O's extra content such as Spirits, music, and even the stage could comprise of content from other Bally-Midway-developed arcade games such as Rampage, Defender, Gauntlet, Smash TV, Paperboy, NBA Jam, and - of course - Mortal Kombat.

Hee Ho!
Jack Frost makes Smash Bros cool!

Hee Whoo is Jack Frost?
Jack Frost is the mascot of the Shin Megami Tensei series and Atlus in general who has a tendency to say "Hee Ho." And fun fact to some of you: Atlus developed Persona! Persona is even a spinoff of the Shin Megami Tensei series! Anyway, Jack Frost is an enemy who has appeared in every Shin Megami Tensei game to date (SMT). Jack Frost's popularity has even gotten him TWO games, with Jack Bros on the Virtual Boy and Synchronity Prologue, a limited edition game for PC. Jack Frost has several versions of him, including King Frost, Black Frost, Demonee-ho, and Frost Ace, all of which can be included in his moveset in some way (but we get there when we get there!)

Hee How would Jack Frost play?
Keeping it simple: Jack Frost would use ice spells and various other skills in his arsenal, as well as using his different forms. He could even summon certain Demons from the SMT series for certain attacks!

Why should Jack Frost get in, ho?
Jack Frost could not only be a representative of Atlus, but also a representative of SMT and Persona. SMT is the original series, but Persona is more popular, so why not add a character who appears in both games? And also, Jack Frost is a true neutral in the alignment chart, something we have very little of. Overall, Jack Frost is very deserving of a spot, so be sure to vote for him!

Repurposing my writeup for the Smash Bros AU, SMT is a historical predecessor to Pokémon.

Job about historical predecessor characters:
Doom Guy (DOOM)

Doom Guy is character from DOOM Series. He is Space Marine that kills Demons in Hell, on Earth and in Space (On Mars ironically). He debuted on PCs, while being made by ID Software and later he was acquired by Bethesda.
He is Iconic VG character and he would use DOOM ETERNAL Design (albeit with some DOOM 2016 due to fact that DLC was planned in 2018) to promote Doom Eternal game that was in 2019, but it was delayed to 2020.
DOOM is historical predecessor to Metroid Prime, which are both FPS Games in VG History.

If he was Included in Smash, he could use moveset from DOOM games like Shotgun as Side Smash or Meat Hook as Up B. He could be Heavyweight character with Crawl Ability. His Final Smash could be BFG 9000 and he could evaporate all fighter with that Final Smash.

I nominate my DOOM Slayer, because he could be historical predecessor to Metroid Prime, which is metroid actually. He could be Iconic addition to smash, which he could bring a lot of DOOM fans to Smash.

Question: Is DOOM Slayer eligible? Because I submitted him for Historical predecessor of Metroid Prime, which are both FPS games. So Doom Slayer is Allowed or not?

Don't know if this counts as super "historical" but it's definitely a precursor

Dante

The main protagnist of the Devil May Cry series. The son of a demon lord, Dante is a wise cracking demon hunter for hire. Armed with his sword Rebellion and his guns Ebony and Ivory. Dante could have a real fun moveset, incorporating the style changes from the DMC series. The series birthed the fast paced action combat that would later be used by Platinum games, most notably Bayonetta. I think a character shown at E3 should be a fan favorite, which Dante definitely qualifies as.

I'll count it. Even ignoring Prime, you could probably make an argument DOOM is also an influence on shooters that aren't first person like Splatoon.

This might also be a good time to clarify that characters who were DLC Mii Fighters in our timeline are eligible to be made fighters, while our timeline's fighters are eligible to be made Mii Costumes, so keep that in mind when discussing fighters and Miis later.

Yeah, you're right.
DOOM is influence for all FPS Games and Non-FPS games.

Hmm... let's get unusual.

Space Harrier (Sega)

1637507527284.png

Whilst not explicitly confirmed to have inspired the specific series, Space Harrier is an intensely important title in the history of the Rail Shooter genre, and the most notable Smash example of that would be Star Fox (which did of course release after Space Harrier, with the latter releasing in 1985 compared to Star Fox's 1993 release). My argument here is that it works, to a lesser extent, in a similar vein to how 1993's DOOM inspired pretty much the entire FPS genre since then - Space Harrier can be seen as having almost invented a large genre of its own that predates FPS.

As a result, I think it would be quite interesting to see him here - not to mention, he's an interesting pick as a retro SEGA rep, and an arcade character - giving him a surprising amount of history, as well as various different titles to represent in different ways (Fantasy Zone springs to mind, but also other classic SEGA arcade titles such as Hang-On and Outrun.)

In terms of basic gameplay, I imagine he's a lightweight, aerially-based zoner of sorts, though happens to be relatively slow on the ground and has a lot of lag on his attacks. This means that in the right hands, he can be pretty dangerous to deal with - but, he's a bit of a glass cannon in that he struggles with comboes and the like.

For visual design, I think it would be a good idea to create a Smash Original design, based primarily on his classic design with some more modern touches - an idea springing to mind being his appearance on the box art of the first SEGA 3D Classics Collection. However, it might be a good idea to include design aspects from other titles and the like, as well as a fresh coat of paint in the Smash style.

Estelle Bright

Estelle is the main character of the game "The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky" which is a spinoff of the Legend Of Heroes series which is part of the Dragon Slayer series. Dragon Slayer is one of the first JRPG's ever made, coming out before Dragon Quest.

The game is created by Falcom an incredibly old and prolific Japanese Dev

Estelle would be a completely unique character who uses a Bo-staff and magic

We'll have to hear from the thread owner on this, but as the person who submitted this prompt I don't think she's elegible on virtue of debuting in 2004 and not a pre-DQ instalment.

Personally, I am split down on the middle whether Estelle would qualify under technicality. As such, I think it would be best to defer to the one who wrote the prompt, so I will not count Estelle unless an example can be given of something in Smash that Trails in the Sky specifically is a predecessor to. (An alternate submission may be made.)

My stance is that Estelle would not qualify, but a Dragon Slayer character who predates Dragon Quest at least would. (A character who also predates Zelda would be preferable, but by no means required, IMO)

I'll use our previous fighter as an example, if Smash had a DDR rep PaRappa would qualify for this job on virtue of debuting 2 years earlier than DDR, but UmJammer Lammy wouldn't since she debuted a year after DDR.
