I will cast my vote on Isaac then. My best bud was devastated after the Direct, and I was rooting for his most-wanted, too.

Anyone who says Isaac wasn't wanted should take a look at... well... pretty much every Direct reaction, especially the NY one.

The sheer number of people who were disappointed by Isaac's AT reveal (or disappointed on behalf of others) is frankly astounding.

Man, that thing happens all the time. See: the American comics industry.

See: How Japanese video game industry generally treats other people's work with more respect, especially ATLUS. They invited Tadashi Satomi back, just so that he can supervise their port of first games. They use recycled voice clips for Igor for years because his voice actor passed away.

These things happen all the time, but you likely won't see it happen with ATLUS, which for all its punkness, is still a very traditional company in many aspects.

I'm playing a randomised Pokémon Heart Gold run (the Starters, Wild Encounters and Trainer Pokémon are randomised), which I've mentioned before (no, it is not a Nuzlocke).

I keep finding Legendary Pokémon in the Wild. There are Mewtwo in Burnt Tower, Rayquaza in the waters of Route 47 (the route leading to the new Safari Zone) and Giratina in Route 43 (between Mahogany and the Lake of Rage). Turns out the Legendary Wild Battle themes in HGSS are actually tied to the Pokémon and not the specific encounters).

Additionally, I'm currently in the Mahogany Rocket Hideout, it goes to show how nonthreatening the trainers can be when the Rocket Grunts called by the laser triggers have Gengar and are still not a threat (because Gengar or not they're only Level 17 when my team is Level 28-30).

A lot of good points were made, honestly. That brings up the whole whether Sora is a Disney or Square rep thing, along with other things mentioned here, Disney and Nintendo having a more sour relationship than they used to now thanks to the theme parks.

The idea of a DQ character being the Square rep is legitimately ridiculous considering that whichever character it is, it’d most likely be announced at the Game Awards. I can guarantee you that 10x more people watching the Game Awards would know who Geno was compared to any single Dragon Quest character besides Slime, which seems particularly unlikely considering that Piranha Plant just happened.

You could certainly make an argument that Piranha’s existence also makes Geno unlikely because they wouldn’t want two Mario reps in a row, but Geno’s prestige as one of the most highly-requested characters in the series’ history, plus how insanely different he is designwise to all other Mario reps does a lot to counteract that.

However, the next obvious question becomes “Why not Sora? He’d break the damn Internet if he was announced at such a huge event like that.” Well, funnily enough, breaking the internet is one of the main reasons why he’s particularly unlikely.

See, over the past few years, Nintendo’s opinion of Disney has particularly soured. From making Nintendo World with their biggest theme-park rival, to making a Mario movie with one of their biggest competitors in animation, to straight-up not allowing Mario to cameo in Ralph Breaks The Internet when he and Bowser appeared in the first movie, it seems extremely counter-intuitive to make a Disney character front-and-center in the marketing for the hands-down most anticipated game on their current system. Especially when it means that they’d have to give a cut of every purchase of the character and fighter pass to them as well.

Geno just seems the most likely candidate of the choices involved.

Well, minus the Slime/DQ bit. But that's about it.
I don't know about how likely Geno is, but he's certainly very likely to me.
And I'm not really sure how recognizable Geno would really be to anyone at the game awards... Any smash fans watching, though, would immediately recognize him.

Compared to these other choices I’m not sure Mighty is actually an oddball Choice. Little Smash support, sure, but you could go deeper. Here’s an oddball choice.

: Bomb & Heavy

Playable badniks that actively hinder your progress through levels in Chaotix. And bomb is literally just the bombs from Sonic 1, 2, Chaos and Lost World but with arms.

: Spoiled Rotten.

Eggplants make for good fighters.

Because no one expects a Luigi rep.

Even with the releases of God of War, Spider Man, Red Dead 2......Smash Bros. Ultimate is still the best selling game on Amazon US for the year so far and it has not even released yet. How big the game is going to be I think is still being slightly underestimated.

I think the most likely DQ rep is Customizable Create-A-Hero who would have a moveset thats an amalgamation of DQ heroes throughout the franchises history.

Or it's Erdrick and has a bunch of hero alts like Alph or the Koopalings.

Did that person really argue that not only would more people know Geno than any Dragon Quest characters other than Slime? Geno who is a literal who to most people outside of Smash Bros and was completely absent from all of Europe for a long time. And Dragon Quest which while not as huge as over in Japan has had multiple games brought over. 8 being very well received and getting a 3DS remake recently and DQXI having come out recently with a Switch port happening. Worldwide at that.

Not just more known but by 10x the amount? Really?

Im not against Geno but why do people overhype him like that while downplaying others? Also why would Slime suddenly not count?

Yep. If you want that, just play Mii Fighter, really.

It'd make more sense to have Erdrick with various alts or alts based upon the heroes(akin to Pokemon Trainer's in Brawl) if you want a Hero moveset. Otherwise, Slime honestly is another great choice that shows off just how important the Monsters are, and does a great job showing off the spin-offs(Dragon Quest Monsters, especially).

Of course, Slime being in more crossovers than any Hero certainly gives the blob a leg up on a Hero at this time, but who knows. It's not just about what SE usually does. It's also about moveset potential. Slime can easily be seen as a monster that's hard to imagine as playable for many. Yes, Sakurai made a mook playable. But that doesn't mean he'll have inspiration for any monster ever made. It's not that simple. It just means Slime is a lot more viable than people wanted to give it credit for, since it being a "generic enemy" isn't really an issue anymore. It still has other issues, respectively. And this is coming from someone who wants Slime in as the de facto DQ character(it helps he's the series' mascot, the PIkachu and all).
