I kinda take my integrity seriously and dropped the ball a bit by not thinking at all about my presented argument, so if anyone ever really wanted to have a serious meta-conversation about Smash speculation, feel free to PM me and I'd love to talk.

I feel, now, that I should make a moveset (my first!) for Goemon so I can illustrate the character for those unfamiliar, just for fun.

I know his chances are low, conpared to simon, but i orefer hin more.

Pokéball is fine, but If there was any Pokémon I'd break my 'No more playable Gen 1 newcomer for Smash' rule for... it'd be for Arcanine.

I'd be okay with that.

Make it a reboot where you can play as both Fox and Krystal (or just Krystal), both share the staff. Fox has stronger moves but slightly slower moves, while Krystal would use slightly faster moves. Depending on how well the two work together, and the decisions one another, or both make, you can form, and change the relationship of the two through out the journey.

Moreover, Amy is one of the first characters playable in spin offs.

You're trying to downplay Amy, but as it stands, she's one of the most important characters in the franchise and joins the group of Tails, Eggman, Knuckles and Shadow as Sonic mainstays.

That said, we are either getting Tails due to seniority or Shadow due to popularity. No one else is in the running right now.

For , I'd say aside from Captain Toad, maybe Pauline. Geno and Birdo being nice bonuses.

still needs the DK Crew as well as Cranky and Funky (those two are honorary sidekicks nowadays).

could have Adeleine and Marx as well, though it's a big maybe.

might need Doc Louie and a rival boxer (probably Mr. Sandman or SUPER! MACHO! MAN!!!).

could have DJ Octavio, the only choice that makes sense if one doesn't conscribe to the Octoling echo theory.

has to have Kamek. Poochy is a huge maybe.

Otacon: That's a tome filled with a wide variety of spells rather than any normal book, Snake. Robin is a spellcaster, being able to use powerful spells like Thoron and Elwind among others to attack, but that's only when their tome isn't used up.

Snake: What do you mean used up? Do they have to stop in the middle of battle to return their spell book to the library or something?

Otacon: No, that's not even close. After using so many spells, they're unable to use their tome and literally toss it away. Eventually they pull a new one of the same kind... out of nowhere... okay, now it seems really strange, saying it out loud.

Snake: Yeah, where in the world do they get more books? Are their robes actually like a giant trench coat that can fit about 50 of them? And where are they getting the money to even buy all of them anyways?

Otacon: I think we should worry about all of that some other time... This is getting more confusing by the minute.

I never even heard about him when Gen 7 Pokemon came up.

It was mostly Mimikyu, Alolan forms of previous Gen 1 Pokemon, Rowlett, Litten, Lycanroc, Ultra Beasts, and hell even Bewear I heard more about.

Decidueye being such a shoo-in and this fan want that Sakurai can't ignore has always felt like something created in a lab by the Smash fanbase to me, but maybe I'm running around the wrong websites when I'm away, who knows.

But after Greninja we had 2 (Greninja & Charizard). That and Decidueye and Greninja are super similar in their archetype of cool edgy Pokemon, which also kinda fits with Lucario, but I digress.

That leads to my second which is the grass starter trio thing. I won't harp on it too much but it's real suspicious that it went from Sceptile during the dlc period, Decideueye to pre E3 and now a lot more backing behind Lycanroc now that we have our starter trio.

I know there are a lot of people who genuinely want Decideueye, I am one, but it was literally the definition of bandwagon, as from the start Inceniroar has always been a more likely starter pick.

Now I wait to be told I'm wrong and that Decideueye is the most loved, most logical Gen 7 pick ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bit late on that Goemon-talk here, but I'm also a long-time fan of the series, though the times I fiddled with it has gone way years back. I played through most of the SNES-games + tried bit of the N64-games as well. Absolutely love the series though, probably one of the most charming and fun games that are able to rival likes of other platform mascots. I'm sure Goemon was a stand-in for that next to Castlevania back in the day.

I though have to admit that due Goemon's overall obscurity today, I can't really see him in Smash these days. Just wish he was more around, that way I could have seen him be rallied probably as much as Banjo-Kazooie or Rayman.

Still, if it's any constolation to you Pyra , Konami did tribute to Goemon heavily in their other properties back in the 90s, such as Parodius-series which had one of the games feature a full-blown Goemon-level at one point,, right down to the stage elements ripped from some parts of Legend of Mystical Ninja SNES and Ganbare Goemon SFC 2.

Anyway, I can only hope Goemon and friends return one day - quite do miss those guys whenever I revisit these series.

100% agree with this, and i think decidueye is the coolest of the "likely" pokemon but still i'm not blind to the fact his popularity for smash and liklihood rose completely on our side of the table and not nintendo/sakurais. if he's in it will be entirely a greninja story again where sakurai simply liked the concept art and chose him on his own. Its extremely unlikely if the pokemon company or fan demand was listened to at the time of choosing smash characters he'd have much of a chance.

mimikyu, incineroar, lycanroc were all used as promotional hype pokemon much more than decidueye.

I decided to count how many days we can get without having a veteran fighter slapped on to it.

So I did my math. First, how many days between the reveal at E3 and the release date?

But we're not getting a blog post every single day, are we? No, it happens only days times per week, so we need to find out the amount of days where the blog updates.

Anyways, I feel that it’s really either Inceneroar or Lycanroc who is likely to get in. They’ve had the most prominence so far (excluding Mimikyu, but he’s a whole other bag of worms) including the anime, movies, and other sources of merchandise as well.

He's an amazing looking Pokemon. but i wouldn't say he's my favorite Gen 7 Pokemon, heck, Gen 7 Starter, at that.

People really are sleeping on Mimikyu for some bizarre reason.

Popular, based off the mascot, role in the anime (even if they kinda...butchered in translation IMO), pushed by Pokemon Company, etc.

The fact he's based off Pikachu alone gives him a major heads up alone without all the other stuff. It certainly helped in what made him popular.

That and the meta of it all. Pokemon Company tried so hard to make a Pikachu successor with countless cute rodents and each never really hit the mark, finally they create a Pokemon that WANTS to be Pikachu and be beloved and it actually is.

It’s obvious that he’s the most popular alolan Pokémon, and thus he gets the most attention.

I mean, I didn’t know any of the Gen 7 Pokémon when Sun and Moon first revealed and came out but I knew who Mimikyu was because it was basically a Pikachu wannabe, and since he looks like Pikachu but it’s instead a rag doll, he instantly becomes recognizable and popular.

In what universe does Donkey Kong "cover" the role of a wrestler?
As for Bowser, one command grab and a dropkick doesn't "cover" anything.

Until we get a character that can chain throw via grappling (note: NOT the same thing as "chain grabs" like from pre-Smash 4 days) like King, we still have yet to begin to scratch the surface.
