People really are sleeping on Mimikyu for some bizarre reason.

Popular, based off the mascot, role in the anime (even if they kinda...butchered in translation IMO), pushed by Pokemon Company, etc.

The fact he's based off Pikachu alone gives him a major heads up alone without all the other stuff. It certainly helped in what made him popular.

That and the meta of it all. Pokemon Company tried so hard to make a Pikachu successor with countless cute rodents and each never really hit the mark, finally they create a Pokemon that WANTS to be Pikachu and be beloved and it actually is.

People also seem to forget that Mimikyu literally had a song made for it by the Pokémon Company. If that's not pushing it, I don't know what is.

That said though, Pokken Sceptile or Decidueye is rad as hell and would fit perfectly in Smash.

That power arguement is like saying a boxer-style Link would be accurate because he's taking THE COURAGE to fight without his tools.

It's stretching characters to the point of absurdity.

I feel like the Pokémon conversation always results in each fan group “faction” just saying why their personal choice is more likely/a better choice than another. Then, because this is what Smash fans do, they try to make this seem like fact because we “know what we’re talking about”.

I’ll be the first one to say that some people definitely have great ideas, but we also need to realize that half the time we have no idea what we’re talking about.

For Wii U, everybody thought it would be Zoroark and Mewtwo. We got Greninja.

Robin, despite having a cult following on this website, was considered second fiddle to Chrom. Robin got in.

Clearly, Layton and a number of other 3rd parties who are close to Nintendo will get. Characters like Ryu and Cloud just don’t belong, and neither did Snake.

Oh wait.

Basically, stop taking it so seriously. I’m honestly at the point with Smash that they could probably add anybody and i’d be psyched. Better yet, i’ll let you all in on a potentially known fact.

I was a **** about Robin and Lucina prior to their reveal because I wanted Chrom. I thought he was cool and I liked his design, but thought the other two were lame.

When I saw the trailer, not only was I bamboozled that it wasn’t Chrom, but I was ****ing PSYCHED to see how Robin played. This character who I was very much against was, in my opinion, one of the cooler additions to Smash Wii U.

It really comes down to characters being fun. Are some characters more likely than others? Maybe. But i’ll be honest. I don’t give a damn why X character is overrated. If they get in Smash and are fun, then I will be excited to see them.

After listening to Super Mario RPG music this week, I realized how fun Geno would be. Do I think Geno is the most likely 3rd party? I don’t know about that, but I realized that he would be really fun, and i’d probably play him a lot if I were having a good time and playing with friends.

I don’t give a **** if i’m right during speculation, because as soon as I get the game cartridge placed in my Switch, I don’t care who got what characters right because i’m going to have fun playing the game.

Mimikyu may be the pick, or Decidueye may be. I personally would like Decidueye. But either would probably be fun, and neither is a superior pick to the other in my humble opinion.

If you’re going to get heated over it, consider that maybe you’re taking this discussion of fictional characters a tad too seriously.

I was initially thinking Zengeif, but John Cena would be even better. Dude's been in crossovers before too, like when he saved the Scooby Doo Gang from an Indiana Jones sized boulder.

John Cena will be in Smash Bros. based off of his degrees of separation with Smash Bros.
First, he saves the Scooby Doo Gang from a giant boulder in one of the movies.
In another movie, Shaggy unlocks the power of Ultra Instinct.

Ultra Instinct is a power-up from the Dragon Ball series, which features Goku.
Goku is not only a highly requested character for Smash Bros., but is also based off of the character Sun Wukong. Who else is based off of said character?
Goku, but not the one from Dragon Ball Z, the one from Nintendo's game Yūyūki.
Which means, John Cena is related to Nintendo, and is therefore eligible to join Smash Bros. He might as well be a shoe-in.

I made a video about that really "out there" leak that correctly predicted Nintendo Funko Pops/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe getting further content/ and guessed exatly what Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee content is likely to be shown next...

I still have no idea where to stand on this leak, leaning towards it being half true with fake things thrown in for whatever reason? Really tough call here with an unbelievable leak that keeps gaining credibility.

Please don't make content like this. It only gives "leakers" what they want: attention. This encourages wannabe leakers to come up with more so that they can get attention and fool others.

It's similar to what what @Lampy did with adding Chorus Men and Bubsy on IMDB, and then laughing when someone actually covered it.

Exactly this point. Both Magikarp and Slowpoke are well known memes in general. Mimikyu's song was for promotional reasons, primarily to make people like the character more.

Plus, who could deny the appeal and hype of a dual reveal trailer for Ashley and Mimikyu? I know I couldn't.

Basically why I want a duo/stance changing Lycanroc between it’s Midday and Midnight form. I would have a lot of fun with a character like that and make it my main.

Either way, I think this time we are getting better with speculation as we began opening up to more potential Pokémon newcomers.

Before it was only Decidueye.

Now we have Decidueye, Mimikyu, Lycanroc, and Inceneroar, by looking at the facts and what has been happening recently we’ve began opening up to the multitude of different possibilities, and of course try to push our own cause.

I think this time we’re learning from last time.

I kinda agree but I don't feel like the Decidueye/Mimikyu argument is ever that condescending. I'm pretty sure it has less to do with "my favorite is straight up better than yours!" and moreso "this mon deserves to be considered too."

A lot of the time I'm in the Pokemon argument I'm defending Mimikyu against the Pokeball, Not Popular, or Body Type arguments. Very rarely do I go on the offensive against Decidueye or Incineroar. (Not saying I don't ever. I did last time.)

I agree our bickering doesn't matter but I know me and Lampy aren't like you in the "I'll be happy come release day" respect. One of us is gonna be hella salty in the next few months. Maybe both but I think we both are cool with Incineroar....I think. Not sure about Golden....haven't seen him in a minute.

I don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers (pun intended) but basically.

I mean as a starter and unique design he's obviously a definite possibility but there's two things that really made him grow popular in the echo chambers of Smash speculation. First is the fact Greninja was chosen. I never felt like starters were the got
to representives in speculation until Greninja got chosen. We had never had a starter chosen before, besides the Pokemon Trainer which represented the starter trio. But after Greninja we had 2 (Greninja & Charizard). That and Decidueye and Greninja are super similar in their archetype of cool edgy Pokemon, which also kinda fits with Lucario, but I digress.

That leads to my second which is the grass starter trio thing. I won't harp on it too much but it's real suspicious that it went from Sceptile during the dlc period, Decideueye to pre E3 and now a lot more backing behind Lycanroc now that we have our starter trio.

I know there are a lot of people who genuinely want Decideueye, I am one, but it was literally the definition of bandwagon, as from the start Inceniroar has always been a more likely starter pick.

Now I wait to be told I'm wrong and that Decideueye is the most loved, most logical Gen 7 pick ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Decidueye is not as likely as people claim it to be. Its only real notable appearance is in Pokken Tournament DX, and that didn't exist until 2017; over a full year after the Smash Ultimate roster was supposedly finalized.

And then you look at Incineroar, who's being pushed a lot more by Game Freak; it played a major role in the 2017 Pokemon movie, and has become a recurring character in the anime's Alola saga.

Wait, so Inceneroar is the most likely alolan newcomer now?

Aww, that sucks, don’t Bowser and Donkey Kong fill the wrestler role already?

Anyways, I feel that it’s really either Inceneroar or Lycanroc who is likely to get in. They’ve had the most prominence so far (excluding Mimikyu, but he’s a whole other bag of worms) including the anime, movies, and other sources of merchandise as well.

Incineroar would probably be the equivalent of Street Fighter's Zangief, focusing more on close-ranged combat, but has below average mobility.

As for Lycanroc, I seriously doubt that the Dusk form's concept art ever existed in late 2015. It also looks a lot more like Poke Ball Pokemon material, regardless of which form it takes.

Well it’s not like people are really calling each other names or something, but I have seen some shots fired at other fans. Or just comments that “people only like this character because of x reason”.

My point was more that even if you have a solid investment in any one character, you may be surprised at the outcome and how you react. I didn’t know what Greninja was and wanted Mewtwo. I waned Chrom and got Robin. Greninja is one of my mains are arguably my favorite Pokémon, while Robin is one of my guilty pleasure characters.

So basically, even if you don’t get Mimikyu and we get some other Pokémon, you may be surprised how you react.
