Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Shoot, you're right. Gamefreak can't reveal the new games until they leak.

Guess we're gonna be here a while :drsad:
Just have to wait for the inevitable fake leaks for CoroCoro to appear.

And then that one real one no one guesses comes out of nowhere.

I kind don't actually.

I want the new Pokemon game to work with both joy-cons. If you could choose either option that would be great.
I want both options, of course.

It would be dumb to make the Pokéball the only way to play.

I like the new All-Star mode much better, it's more fast paced and challenging. Fighting everyone at once makes it truly feel like a final battle.
I just don't like the presentation of putting it under the same menu as the most meh of all modes that's multi-man.

How good is Pokemon Go even? I mean, I enjoyed Red, Yellow and FireRed a ton, to be honest, those with Gold are probably my favorite games. But is it a total new remake? I never was very familiar with Pokemon Go anyway. Is it somewhat challenging? Or just the same thing all over?

Props to M2K for vouching for not only legal Castle Seige, but starter pick Castle Seige.

Some of the "arguments" against that stage are bafflingly stupid.

As a more modern hardcore Pokemon player, it's ok. Not amazing, not terrible, just okay. If you've got huge nostalgia for kanto you might like it.
It's cute, and it functions fine as a Pokemon game. The GO mechanics are rather annoying though, the catching is a pain. Post game is pretty barren as well, and it's very easy if you know what you're doing. The lack of held items and abilities make most battles monotonous. Still, I don't regret playing it.
You probably won't regret playing it either.

I'm not replaying it like, ever though. It's Gen 8 time baby.

I don't usually like M2K videos because he seems to do it all in the first take(his video on Echo fighter differences for example) but his video on the stagelist was really ****ing good. He's right that we desperately need smaller stages, this may be biases speaking but as someone who mainly plays characters without projectiles, I know how much big stages favor those with them.
Wario Ware and Castle Siege are stages the competitive scene really needs if it wants to have any sort of character diversity or else it's gonna revolve around the same three or four characters much like every past game has done.

It's enjoyable but I'm not sure I'd recommend it despite that. It's definitely far on the easier end and what difficulty there is is completley offset by how strong the partner Eevee / Pikachu is. There's really not a whole lot of content and Fire Red / Leaf Green even beats it in the content department thanks to the Sevii Islands, which aren't present in Let's Go.

Wario Ware without hazards feels like a lock for competitive play, tbh.
In a normal world it would be. For the dumbest reasons ever, WarioWare and Castle Seige are contentious among parts of the community.

There was an animated Final Fantasy VII movie that wasn’t 3D.

It was called “Last Order”.

Probably one of the most insulting games I've ever played. It literally treats you as if you were a baby. One could argue that it's meant for kids, and that it being easy is good for that demographic. But how many of us have played Pokemon games as kids and beaten the game?

The most notorious example of the game's hand holding is in the very beginning. Your starter learns double kick at a very early level for NO reason other than to help you at Brock's gym. On top of that, you now find oddish in veridian forest so you get a type advantage, which never happened before. On top of THAT, you aren't even allowed to enter Brock's gym unless you have a water or grass type. I don't understand why the game is so afraid to have children do basic problem solving. Hell, they even took away abilities so it would be even more streamlined.

Wasn’t Nidoran good against Brock’s team and available to catch before his battle in Pokémon Yellow?

Besides that, i agree that Let’s Go seems too easy.

On the topic of Pokemon, what do y'all think is a good game to start with? I'm wanting to get into the series.

I may be biased, but i love SoulSilver/HearthGold, White/Black and Emerald the most.

The three have great music, single player content and gimmicks that i enjoy even to this day.

White/Black is also considered the most mature game in the main series because of the plot.

Yokai Watch 2 Psychic Specter.. or Simply wait for Yokai Watch 3.
I think Yokai Watch is a ton better. If you insist however, then I guess everyone seems pleased with Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee

I wouldn't play anything before the GBA games, they're kind of buggy. But HeartGold/SoulSilver are great. BW/BW2 are some of my favorites. X/Y are boring as hell. Sun and Moon do a lot of interesting things with the series. But I would probably start at FireRed or LeafGreen

definitely don't start with this one

It’s not that it’s bad...per say...it’s moreso of a “what the **** is this broken mess and why wasn’t it kept old school?” kind of way
Do you really want to fight through the traditional All-Star Mode containing 70+ Characters? With every character?

Really?

Be honest.

I would like to choose the difficulty.

Besides that, not really.

If you've got a GBA, Emerald and FireRed/LeafGreen. If you've got a DS, Platinum, HeartGold/ Soulsilver and Black/White are great.
If you've got a 3DS, X/Y, OR/AS, and Sun/Moon are all great places to start!

I hope Pokemon steals your soul like it stole mine!

kinda

Would probably only play it once or twice though, I'll be honest. This new one however? I don't really have any inclination to play at all.

Honestly glad the Spirits Board exists and is updated with new events pretty regularly. Makes up for new All-Star IMO.

Don't start with HGSS unless you want everything else to pale in comparison.

Nah, personal bias aside I honestly think Gen 1 is the best way to start. It's the traditional Pokemon experience without some of the more challenging or unique (so to speak) aspects of some of the other gens (Abundance of water types in Gen 3, Gen 4's lack of fire types unless you play platinum, Gen 5's general difficulty spike as a whole.)

Basically if you have access to GBA then definitely FireRed or LeafGreen. If not and you just have a 3ds, then easily Heart Gold/Soul Silver or Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

You could start with Let's Go, but be aware it's VERY different in a lot of its mechanics, so you'd have another learning curve going into the rest of the series. It also has less content when compared to FireRed/LeafGreen.

To be honest, you can start with any game.

So... any of the definitive versions, really

Gen 1: Fire Red or Leaf Green (Pokémon Let's Go! is a different beast)
Gen 2: Heart Gold or Soul Silver (technically a sequel to the Gen 1 story)
Gen 3: Emerald (GBA) or Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire (3DS)
Gen 4: Platinum (it fixes all of the problems that people have with Diamond and Pearl, namely, DP was sloooooow)
Gen 5: Black and Black 2 or White and White 2 (you can mix and match, though; the more important point is that Black 2 and White 2 are direct sequels to B/W, albeit with a different protagonist, you can actually transfer some data from Black/White for some optional stuff)
Gen 6: X or Y
Gen 7: Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon (Sun and Moon have a more focused story, though)

Is it good that i played all of these except the Gen 7 games?

depends on what you want your pokemon to be. if you want a decent story, go for black/white or sun/moon. if you want pure content, go for heartgold/soulsilver

if you actually want any difficulty and fun gameplay, like, legitimately just go for yokai watch or the digimon cyber sleuth games. pure gameplay wise, pokemon is honestly one of the worst of the mons genre

Sun and Moon are great, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are decent but unnecessary, Let's Go is alright.

Buy Sun and Moon, you can skip the others if you want.
I’ll ask my friend who loves Pokémon for any of the two.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'd honestly say skip SM and go for the Ultra versions. They basically upgrade on the last game anyways (however slightly that may be) and the story only changes considerably in the last 25% of the game.

Unless there's something I'm forgetting I don't think there's anything that SM does better over USUM besides a certain character's plot path.

This is of course if both are the same price. If SM is cheaper then go for that one, the upgrades in USUM aren't so huge that it's worth the extra price.
