Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I mean it did remind me of mow much people are sleeping on a Hunter. MH has a boss, 2 tracks, a whole sub-area dedicated to it in WoL, and is mostly Nintendo exclusive right now with the only exception of World, but I barely see it brought up in speculation or in people's predictions. It's usually shunted to the side in favor of Dante, Phoenix Wright, an RE character, etc.

I also admire the ties between Incineroar and Zangief. The references between them are great, and I find it kind of funny that Ryu's Classic Mode utilizes him.

vaanrose vaanrose firmly believes that Monster Hunter is out for the count, but to be fair, Capcom has a ton of options to choose from. You could very well go Dante, Phoenix Wright, an RE character, and even Arthur. You'd still have solid ideas with Strider Hiryu, Morrigan, Chun-Li (if Spirit promotions become a thing), Ammaterasu, Viewtiful Joe, etc. all the way back to Monster Hunter. I would be ecstatic if any of these made it into the roster, but I can do without a fourth Capcom rep (for now), at least until Namco plays catch-up.

That's not how licensing works. They either paid to use Monster Hunter as a playable character or they didn't. If they didn't, they'd have to pay more money to do so. As of now, we only have a decent reason to believe they paid only for non-playable content.

i dunno why you guys are so sure monster hunter won't be playable when it is the only third party series in the game to get a dungeon, a boss, and music tracks, but no playable character

like, c'mon, monster hunter is huge, like they're gonna miss out on that opportunity to make money

I dunno....yeah, we have Monster Hunter content in Ultimate right now, but....

....if we were supposed to get a character to go with it, why wouldn't we have gotten said character before DLC?

That doesn't mean it will be playable. It just means that's all the content they paid to have.

They could absolutely pay more money for a playable character. We don't know. Maybe Sakurai did license the playable character, but it was agreed to be DLC. That can happen. I'm not sure what to think because them having strong base content is meaningless right now. It could mean they believed having a playable character wasn't a good idea, for instance. We won't know for quite a while.

If Monster Hunter was gonna have a playable character it should have been on the base game.

i freak out a bit too much and worry too much about how much earlier i have to try and press the input haha

Honestly, some aren't that surprising. Also, you're generalizing. Many saw Isabelle coming. Many thought she wouldn't get in. Ridley is the same way, though very few thought he was getting in this game for sure. I could go on.
