I have to take a trip on the 8th until the 9th.
I get one day of Smash before I have to go 24 hours without it again. What a pain...

I mean, my case might span for months if it has to. I have to buy the special edition and guide as quickly as possible, then go without a Switch for however long. Only that is holding me back now.

Who are the people largely agreeing on this?
The people actually discussing it seem to very much disagree.

Other sources than PP exists, but Verge/Hitagi/Xeno's rep is falling apart at the seams DLC-wise unfortunately. I could be entirely wrong but from what I've read it seems that way.

I don't get how and why Geno would be the red herring of all the characters on that list. In fact, aren't they /all/ red herrings except one? Why are we so sure Geno specifically is a red herring? And can anyone explain it as "just trust me don't take him seriously" or is this just how it's gonna be for a few more months?

Also when was it said PP's source was outdated?

I feel like Verge, Hitagi, and Xeno are as reputable as ever (Hitagi and Xeno weren't exactly reputable from the start though, and I will admit Verge took a hit with his Minecraft boss claim, but even then he's been correct about most things) and this is the age old case of people discrediting leakers solely because they say that a character is or isn't in.

Out of five known sources, 4 think he's a red herring as per this post. This alongside Vergeben being told not to take Geno too seriously casts doubt on his name being on the list. Polar is taking a neutral stance but only has his one source who seriously claimed Geno. That occurred in November as confirmed by this post, and if I recall correctly Polar heard about it on November 2nd. Since then, there's been nothing as stated here. I'm confident that someone also said that other developments for other SE reps have been picked up on, but I couldn't find the post. Unfortunately, without these sources to speak with we have no way of finding out WHY they believe that Geno is a red herring, but I'll believe the majority in this case; most of the time it isn't wrong.

The rumor about Geno and Sephiroth being the ones to make it to discussion is just that, a rumor. Since it says that Geno is the one being seriously considered, of course it would be latched on to by the Geno thread. It's only natural for us to want our characters in; it's exactly why I latched on to Spawn Wave's claims of Sora.

That being said, outside of that one rumor than even Polar acknowledges could be fake, Geno isn't exactly seen as all that likely.

Gen 8 Pokemon
Ultimate is in a bit of a weird position. It's coming out right at the end of Gen 7, we're literally a few months away from Gen 8's reveal. I feel like this could be another Brawl situation where we get more than one Pokemon newcomer, this time a Gen 8 rep. I have no idea who it could be, but I think it'll happen.

Fire Emblem Character
Fire Emblem has gotten really big in the past few years, and with the coming release of Three Houses a new character wouldn't surprise me at all.
I put Edelgard here, but really it could be anyone.

Bandanna Dee or Poochy
One of these little guys. Poochy could possibly rep Crafted World while Bandanna Dee has the star power. Not to mention with Piranha Plant here the generic enemy argument is basically dead. Personally i'm rooting for Dee, he's suffered enough.

A Big Third Party
A huge third party character, like Cloud. My bets are on Steve, Crash, or Master Chief.

Square Enix Character
The mythical Square Rep. Who could it be? Beats me. I'm hoping for Geno, but any of these guys would be okay. Especially Slime, that'd be hilarious.

I would not be surprised if we get a Minecraft stage but no character. There are six slots on the stage selection screen, but only five fighters pass characters. I imagine if we do manage to get Banjo-Kazooie, we will probably get a Minecraft stage as well.

I think a Minecraft costume for Mii Fighters seems likely if they were to do that sort of thing, although Reggie stated that there is no additional content in the Fighter's Pass aside from 1 character per pack, 1 stage per pack, and music. Maybe a stage that references different Microsoft IPs associated with Mojang and Rare? That's the only thing I can think of, but I don't know if they have anything resembling Nintendo Land on their console.

Some people suggested that Cloud was negotiated for both games when he was added. I don’t know much agreements like this, but Cloud would have to been negotiated sometime around the beginning of 2015 due to the development timeframe. If we’re to believe Sakurai when he said he only made a project plan for ultimate in December, then surely the agreements with Square would have had to only be for smash 4, meaning Cloud would have to be negotiated again for ultimate. Correct me if I’m wrong thiugh.

Wait, is this related to the theory that Cloud was the last character to get in Ultimate or something? I doubt he was that troublesome to get in, especially with how close the gap is between Smash 4 and Ultimate. I'm more inclined to think that all of the negotiation business went toward bringing back the cut Pokemon reps, Young Link, ALTTP Zelda, and OOT/Space World Ganondorf. Those are reps from Heads who double down super hard on relevancy over fan demand. Then again, Squirtle and Ivysaur are Gen 1 Pokemon and we all know how much Game Freak likes to beat that dead horse [smirk]

Should be interesting. Idk where i’ll be but hopefully it’ll be an entertaining show aside from games I enjoy getting lots of awards that nobody will care about a week later.

I'm still holding a torch for Geno, but at this point I just wanna know who it is so we can move on. This got old three weeks ago.

I could see, if we get an FE character (which I highly, highly doubt), us getting Anna. Heroes is huge, she's the starting unit, she's an iconic series character, and also I'm horribly biased because I love her.

At no point did I or anyone else insult Geno or his character or his fans. You have to admit that the Geno thread is biased towards Geno; It's a character thread, therefore it is inherently biased. You'd see similar things if Polar and co. posted in the Sora thread or the Erdrick thread. Of course people there are going to read into Polar's words more optimistically towards Geno than non-Geno supporters. There's nothing wrong with it, but it needs to be acknowledged.

The whole world isn't out to get Geno and his fans. People have different opinions towards him, and expressing those opinions is far from bashing or character attacks.
