My local Gamestop held a tournament the day Brawl came out.

Apparently, she got in without the director's consent, or so I've heard... In Smash context, Sakurai only adds a character if the feeling between Directors is mutual. If Capcom added Monster Hunter without Kaname Fujioka's consent, I can't see history repeat itself unless Capcom themselves strong-arm him into allowing Sakurai to use the avatar. That's what I'm basing my knowledge on, so apologies for not putting up that disclaimer beforehand.


To be fair, it's the Avatar that the series director has this weird crossover hate-boner toward. I've heard of talks way back in the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 days that the team was interested in the idea of Felynes as the Monster Hunter rep if there was one. Again, could be total bull****, but that's what I heard back then.

From what I remember it was either the Felynes or Rathalos itself that they demanded. I don't remember anything saying that Monster Hunter was against their wishes while I was active in Infinite discussion though. Though maybe that popped up sometime after I left it

I'm going to need receipts on that since there's been no official information that has popped up on the matter from when I was with the MvCi community. Additionally, since the Monster Hunteress wasn't the only thing drawn from the series (ex. Jhen Mohran, Rathalos' likeness, half of 'Valkanda' design, etc.) that would mean that not only did the character get used without consent, but other assets from the series were also used without consent and that doesn't seem to be very likely considering the circumstances.

Imagine if they showed off all of the DLC characters in silhouette at once. You wouldn't be able to tell where Fighter 1 ended and Fighter 5 began. And their poses. Holding any weapons more like Ike or Chrom does than Robin, Corrin and Shulk. Hair flowing in the wind like Zelda.

Even the Final Fantasy XIV crossover with Monster Hunter World, the character avatar was not used. Rathalos and Palico were the only direct characters brought over. The only character that looked like an avatar was an in-game character that was from the FFXIV world in an older FFXIV armor set that just looked enough like Monster Hunter to have it fit so that doesn't even count.

It was actually extremely funny, the Rathalos battle was released on FFXIV the day before the direct where Rathalos was announced for Smash Ultimate. For someone who didn't play Monster Hunter prior I couldn't get away from Rathalos.

They all knew that he was in, so this leak not having him confused them. If he was in that leak from the start they would have had a harder time denying it.
At least I think they would've.

Why would you omit a new Pokemon, the most obvious character inclusion in any Smash game, from your leak? Especially if you wanted people to believe it?

Lets just be glad the leak had some form of inconsistency so that the confusion wasn't even worse than it could have been.

And many attempts for fake leaks always used Incineroar or Vergeben stuff to attempt to look legit.

Grinch caught attention because it had effort while also trying to stay far from any Vergeben claim.

Alright. Time for the obligatory "why I think my character has a chance to be in as DLC" post.

I'll keep this relatively short and simple:

- Xenoblade Chronicles X is only represented through Spirits. No music, no stages, no characters (3 things the Fighters Pass promises to bring).
- Rex's current situation is very... weird. I still consider it as a deconfirmation. You may think otherwise. The fact he singled out Rex is still interesting to note.
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has... a lot of representation compared to X. More spirits, more music, Mii costumes... it seems really weird that a game from the end of 2017 is getting more attention than the game that was most relevant when the roster was finalized (December 2015).
- That really only leaves KOS-MOS as a potential Xeno rep, but she is a 3rd party character. So... take that as you will.

Simply put: If we're getting a Xeno rep, it's most likely going to Elma.
Now whether or not you think we're getting a 2nd Xeno rep is up to you.
But this is my case... put simply.

Which one? Kaname being furious at Capcom for throwing in Monster Hunter as a character in Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite? Or the info about Felynes being a scrapped idea for Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Or both?

For the latter, there's this here, but I've gotten most of my info from a Facebook page that's been up since Marvel vs. Capcom 3 speculation. It's been the one place I've gotten a ton of fighting game news, and there has been talks of MH not getting any reps because the team felt the avatar didn't have an actual identity worth placing amongst the roster.

As for the Director being furious at MH's inclusion in Infinite, well... Admittedly, I can't tell you much about it other than it's cropped up here and there, so I could totally be wrong as I've said in my original post. However, if I am wrong, it kinda goes against the idea of Anna being a weapons specialist rep. I kind of feel like if it was between Monster Hunter and Anna, there can be only one.

From my understanding, they're okay with the other stuff being included in crossovers. It's just the self-insert nature of the Hunter that they're against, at least according to rumors that could be totally bogus. I'd love to be wrong though, but there's more than a handful of other possible Capcom reps anyway that it doesn't really matter who gets in. Plus, Anna was the character in staindgrey's spotlight, so my original post was more on the idea that if we don't get the Hunter, we'd probably get Anna since she's the next best choice for a swiss-army fighter.

By not including incineroar, sure it’s less believable but it’s also more eye-catching. It’s like, woah it’s going against vergeben, it’s saying incineroar ain’t in. It causes more contriversy and arguements, which was exactly the point.

Honestly don't think it's likely at all, but one can wish.
There's certainly a lot of the possible DLC candidates that can have echoes, like Sora/Roxas, Elma/Cross, Steve/the other Minecraft character (Alex, I think?), Erdrick/another DQ protag, Isaac/Matthew, Lyn/Navarre, Travis/Henry (though I would prefer Travis with the dual beamkatanas instead of one)
