Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Who the hell is Noipoi.
Noipoi Noipoi is a really cool guy who makes some really cool art. he also has good taste in characters.

I meant the comment as a joke though. Between the name and the avvy, you reminded me of him a little bit.

My point being that there would be people like you who are trying to sugarcoat the situation behind Square-Enix's lack of content in Smash. It was pretty obvious what your message was, but there's nothing to retort with. You think Square-Enix and Nintendo aren't doing anything unusual, but there is reason to believe that the former is being unnecessarily difficult to negotiate with. There is plenty of concern with that.
Im not "sugercoating" it, Im saying there is likely a lot more to the situation then our hyperbolic "we didnt get what we want so they so greedy!!" claims.
We are operating on incomplete information and a lot of the time these arguments are partially fueled by our bias of wanting more stuff. Like we have actual confirmed reasoning for why we don't have many songs yet that gets ignored over and over, people ignore the fact that the extra spirits and stuff other companies have are not gifts, they are additional advertising that likely cost more to use or was required to get the character rights in the first place(ironically sugarcoating things for them). :/

If we don't get a SE character as DLC, I'm eating my own shoes
Well tell me Mr. Etrian, where do I get my MONEY?
By killing your enemies and selling their body parts to the shady merchant in that back alley.

Gonna be straight here.

Hitagi isn't trustworthy.

They're the reverse version of Vergeben, where they've proven that they've had good information for OTHER games, but they've gone back on literally everything they've said in regards to Smash.

The only reason people even gave them ANY credit in the first place is because Vergeben worked with them for awhile, and as we've seen from Loz18 and that other dude, Verg will flock to anyone who even seems to have remotely the same info as he does.

I don't know if there'll be Minecraft or a 2nd SE rep, but Hitagi ain't it, chief.

Ah well good for him. I'm the opposite in all fields. I can't draw well, my top favorite characters are mostly all underdogs and I'm a Deltarune/Undertale fanboy, so I'm just a loser. :V

Yep, but we have some context on the matter. Sakurai himself said that he had to twist some arms to get everyone back and if there is one company to guess that could be seen as the one that gave Sakurai a hard time, it would have to be SE. In many ways, it is the odd one out. We can piece together stuff we know to create at least some context.

If you ran into anyone who honestly believes that Nintendo is entitled to have something from Square-Enix, then I apologize on behalf of their idiocy. I myself have not run into anyone who thinks the Stickers are just handed willy-nilly to Nintendo in the first place. Instead, I see more people dig at Square for what seems like their content is either way too expensive to include, or they just refuse to allow the negotiations to take place at all.

There's my "Sony's probably involved" comment from yesterday, but then again, they would have held Nintendo back on past Square content if they really wanted to so Sony is very likely not involved.

Jokes aside you’re not entirely wrong lol
Glad I got a chuckle out of you!

How have you never heard of Noipoi Noipoi ?!
[Slides corpse behind couch with right foot after showering Noipoi with bullets]
...Reasons.

I was thinking about it today...and it really seems to me that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a game made for the community.

I don't know. Like, BKupa666 BKupa666 did a really amazing job rallying fans together to make sure Nintendo and Sakurai know that we wanted K.Rool in Smash, and in DKC in general. The Ridley fans collectively, especially longtime supporters like IsmaR IsmaR and others, did a lovely job keeping up the good fight despite what all the naysayers said.

I don't really want to brag about it because hey, I really don't know how much of a difference it made, but I was once the account holder for the Twitter account @Snake4Smash4. I haven't touched it in a long time, but once the Ballot opened for Smash Wii U & 3DS, I knew I had a chance to make a difference. It wasn't really the most followed Twitter account or anything, but at this point I feel like I made a difference.

Honestly, when the E3 trailer was active and Sakurai introduced Snake's segment with, "Back by popular demand..." it almost made me shed a few tears. I was already speechless at that point, but it truly validated my appreciation for the character and the effort I put in. The thing is though, it wasn't just me. There are plenty of awesome Snake fans out there who not only rallied with me but were certainly go getters themselves. These users include HylianHeroBigBoss HylianHeroBigBoss , NonSpecificGuy NonSpecificGuy , cmbsfm cmbsfm , and many, many others.

Even if you didn't get your most wanted this game, I think we can all appreciate that we basically, through the power of our fanbases, we made some characters that we had given up on, make a glorious debut or return to the game.

I really just think it's like the coolest thing ever. Before this game, I had completely given up on Ridley, K.Rool, and Snake altogether. To see all three of them show up for this game is truly a dream come true as a gamer, and Smash Bros fan.

That all said, I really am unsure if i'll ever move on to a new Smash game. Like there simply isn't going to be an incentive if they can't keep this roster together to get the band back together. I can already imagine Cloud is going to be hard to bring back. He, just like any other character, is going to have a massive backlash from being cut, which can just as likely lead to a campaign by fans to get him back in.

This is why I firmly believe the development team decided to keep all the veterans together rather than add a bunch of newbies. While there's value in adding new characters, the series is just so storied at this point that we have an incredibly diverse roster with characters that are basically always relevant, popular, interesting, or flat out legendary. It's some really cool **** to be honest.

Considering we lost all the third party mii costumes I think third parties in general might have been an issue.

Hold on...

Are you on about tehpony's predictions earlier today?
Not just those thankfully, but I recall there being a post that highly suggested he was privy to some juicy info which was the reason for him seeing Phoenix Wright as the most likely Capcom rep. Either way, the dream is still very well alive.

So guys

Check out the update on the Smash site. It says that Suzaku Castle comes with music tracks for 16 characters

Am I missing something here? Or was the website team on some kind of Ultimate hype train?

How could Atlus announce something a year ago, and then have zero information for the rest of the year?
I mean... that's pretty much what Square Enix did with both Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy VII Remake... >_>

Use five Farmers. If you want to farm money, then the more farmers, the better, right?

...I'm serious, too, five-Farmer parties are a thing people use for when you need to just farm items to sell or whatever.
This is some meta **** that I had never considered.
Welp, I guess I'm keeping a team of farmers in the back now.

Okay, a while ago someone said the Paper Mario render in Smash Ultimate is new. I can unfortunately confirm its not
View attachment 180450
It's a modified version of a color splash render. Sorry, dudes.
It's still rather noteworthy the white outline got edited out of the Paper Mario spirit, considering Smash 3DS didn't do the same for that useless crown. Such a change would have had to be approved by Intelligent Systems or instigated themselves. So maybe it's an indication of changed priorities for the Paper Mario series?

It's talking about other Street Fighter characters. Remove Ryu and Ken, x2 then we get 28, plus the 2 new remixes and all the Smash 4 tracks and it's 36 tracks

That happens quite a lot in gaming actually. Games can be announced so early in development, that they have nothing to show for another year or 2... Either that, or development purgatory...

K. Rool and Ridley are perfect examples of newcomers are in thanks to the community and it's longlasting demand, but I think the big icon would be Geno (if he gets in, that is), in my opinion.

Geno is a character who has only been in two games. One back in the 90s as a party member. One in a handheld spinoff RPG as a cameo. The fact that the community banded together and got this obscure character to be one of the most wanted characters and even acknowledged by Sakurai himself is something I love. It's an amazing underdog story. That's one of the reasons I've also been personally rooting for Geno.

I dont know if that is being fair. Yeah, all third party mis are gone but:
:ultsonic: has a new assist, a new final smash and new costumes
:ultbayonetta: has a new assist.
:ultryu: has more music and :ultken:
:ultmegaman: has two new assists
(and even MH representation)
:ultsnake: has new moves and new costumes.
:ultsimon::ultrichter: has 30 songs, a boss, an assist, the voice actor for Alucard even cameos in Palutena´s guidance.
:ultpacman:has new music and a new final smash
All of them have spirits except:
:ultcloud: has nothing of interest that I know of.
