Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

With so many people on here, being forgotten about is kinda of expected unless you are a very frequent poster and it's probably best not to be remembered in a bad way by having a gimmick.

At this point, I’d be fine with datamining/leaking the Fighter Pass 5 if means not going through the anxiety of wondering if the character you wanted/didn’t want got in.

It’d be ripping off a band-aid.

I feel like people also have very little patience or time for ''joke" characters like Zoe Trent. Because that's what anyone who isn't a video game character is to people. ''Joke" characters.

So I'm afraid it kind of just falls on deaf ears.

Speculation fills the gap before release because it's obviously filled with hype. At the beginning of speculation, there is a "yet to be determined" amount of new characters. This time started with Inklings, Ridley, and then eventually K.Rool. This game specifically confirmed a lot of fan favorites.

Going into DLC...well, Rex is probably out. Spring Man is out. Waluigi, Isaac, and Skull Kid are out. Most fan wants at this point are off the table, and DLC, as many have said, will probably get leaked beforehand.

Not to mention we've only got 5 characters to talk about, and speculation this time was entirely guided by leaks from beginning to end, making the endless cycle of "this was leaked, therefore your ideas can't happen".

Like, the question of, "Hey, why do you think speculation will drop off or be boring guys?" is completely ignoring the fact that we speculate because we're excited to play the damn game. If you're really wondering, this is exactly where the joke of, "Do you guys actually play this game?" or "I buy the game to stare at the character select screen" come in.

It's like people like talking about the game, but the idea of playing? Reprehensible! Blasphemy!

I'm a bit conflicted, on one hand, I'd like to be pleasantly surprised if my fave happens to be DLC, on the other, I don't know if I would want to be stuck in suspense for a whole year again only to (most likely inevitably) end up bummed that none of my faves where part of the DLC five....

I think I'd probably rather just dataminers rip the bandaid asap for me....
speculation would probably be boring though depending on how soon the characters are discovered.

Who is she? Is she from the fighting game that the my little pony people worked on? She looks like it.
If we're getting indie representation I don't think it'll be from that, sorry to say.

Chrom, easily.

Since the changes are meant to be gradual from game to game, here's what I'd do:

- Chrom's Falchion becomes slightly longer to match canon. As he's less concerned with hitting close up than Roy is, I feel this is warranted.
- Replace Double-Edged Dance with a new side special. It's a wonderful attack, but the decloning process calls for it. Instead, Chrom would have a Javelin Toss. On the ground, its trajectory can be angled. In the air, it flies in a set arched path, but like Mewtwo's Confusion, it propels Chrom horizontally a tad, aiding his abysmal recovery.
- For his jab, Chrom replaces Roy's admittedly-awkward-if-not-done-in-a-reverse-grip move with a three part jab, which features a quick upward strike, followed by a shoulder bashing stabbing lunge, followed by an overhead slam. This move is far more true to Chrom's canonical fighting style.
- For his neutral aerial, Chrom does a small sword flip like the ones seen in his up special, hitting an area that's basically a circle around him. This is just to give him a separate neutral aerial from Marth, Roy, and Lucina, who all share one.
- For his down smash, Chrom leaps upward before planting Falchion into the ground, creating a small shockwave around him. This is just to give Chrom another one of his true-to-canon attacks, being based on one of Awakening's cutscenes where he kills one of the Risen.

So basically the side special, down smash, neutral aerial, and jab would be completely altered and Falchion would get a small range buff. :p

Does what is canon or non canon affect a characters chances of getting into Smash?

For example, BWD, besides Revenge of the King/SSU, has two major roles that actually affect the story: Rainbow Curse (rescuing Kirby and thus allowing the two to go on their adventure) and Battle Royale (is your partner throughout the story mode). Thing is these games are spin-offs, which are almost always agreed to be non canon. Would this affect Dee's chances? Or let's say, Dee only uses his parasol in Battle Royale, which is non canon. If BWD does get in, would the fact that he only uses his Parasol in a non canon game affect the chance of him using it in Smash?

Look no farther than Ness. Most of his PK attacks are from his party members, therefore him using them isn't in line with canon. In short, it won't be a problem.

Don't worry about it. It's been really hectic on my side too, so I haven't been here much either. Nor that I'm that encouraged to be. To be honest, not the forum I expected. To be completely frank, one of the worst forums I've been to. Though Goemon fans deserve the support.

So, onto answering.
Nintendo characters? not sure, something they want to promote heavily. To know that we'll need to look for modern games that either brings a lot of money or they've spent a lot on it, and honestly nothing come to mind, since all their IPs are well represented in Smash. Except maybe Granblue/Katalina. They'll have to announce the DLC choices soon if they're expecting sales, I for one am not eager to pay for something I don't know. Now unless our fellow Smashers jump on that $5 save early, all will be good. Do you have any expectations?
Of course. I think each DLC charcater will add spirits from his/her/its world. Well, unless that charcater comes from a world shared by an already existing charcater.
I'm really not into Bethesda games (unlike many whom I know), so in all honesty I wish they'd stay away from Smash (cartoonish, remeber). Though since Smash is somewhat a mess right now, maybe they'd be selected (we know there were talks, yet we know nothing of came out it). Personally I don't think they're there yet, they didn't contribute much, nothing to promote.. chances are low I think.. or wish XD
Songs/music. At first I thought 5 pieces, but that would be too little. I'm guessing an average of 8-12 maybe. It all depends on the music team. If they like the series we could get as much as Castlevania (34).. Sugiyama, maybe 1 XD

Instead of replacing Double-Edge Dance outright, what if you change it so it works differently?

I'd make it different in the way that Mario and Dr. Mario's capes are; so Chrom's Double-Edge Dance allows him to move through the air slightly when it's used.

For Kirby specifically, the modern games actually reference spin-offs quite a bit with things like Stone transformations, collectibles, ported music, Magolor throwing Gem Apples at people in his playable appearance in Star Allies, ect. so one has to debate how non-canonical they really are, hmm...

Also, BWD’s parasol first appeared in Planet Robobot where it was used by Kirby wearing a BWD costume, so it was canon there even if it was used by Kirby masquerading as BWD rather than BWD himself. IDK if that’s too late to be considered, though.

There are also blatant references to spin-offs already in Smash, mostly for Mario though, such as Peach/Daisy’s F-Smash, the Mario Kart stages and music, the Paper Mario stage and music, Pirahna Plant’s Putrid Pirahna attack that specifically references Paper Mario, ect.
Specifically for Kirby in Smash, there’s a remix of City Trial in Ultimate.
