I think this is Sakurai´s way of giving grass type fans something. Afterall, People seemed to want a new grass pokemon to balance the roster.
I can't personally. But other fighting games, namely Dragon Ball FighterZ also added modes for free at a later date. So it doesn't seem that strange for a game like Smash to do the same.

Awakening, despite how some longtime fans feel about it, is pretty much the Fire Emblem game though, not only did it save the series, but it became the outright most successful Fire Emblem game, drawing in the casual crowd like it had never done before. It really set its mark on the series, for better or for worse you can pretty much divide Fire Emblem by pre- and post-Awakening.

I don't believe it either, but it's an interesting idea, at the very least.
I really would love to see Decidueye get in. Perhaps he would get the Pit treatment and not use his a bow and arrow for many moves, but it would be there at least.
