I'm very sad to hear about Stan Lee's passing since the Marvel Comics had always been a part of my childhood especially with Spider-Man. May he rest in peace.

It's not just the crappy DQ midis and such, though; it's the politics stuff, people aren't gonna want to support the guy. I've seen the same thing with A Hat in Time because JonTron voiced one (or some?) of the characters, even though the game's sales wouldn't give him more money, he was already paid.

Especially when we know from the direct they picked the characters in the project plan.

Not really, that wasn't clear. I really don't think they would decide DLC characters as must-haves during the project plan; it'd probably be a separate plan for negotiations, and since apparently Nintendo is deciding the characters while Sakura, his team, and Bandai Namco are developing the game, it makes it even more unlikely.

This is what most of the Waluigi support amounts to. Compared to fanbases like with Ridley and K. Rool, who people are seriously invested in, Waluigi's support is just because people think he's a funny character and that they're funny by liking/playing as him.

Last year during Nintendo's Summer of Play event, I went to the mall to go get my hands on the Switch (this was back when they were hard to find). A friend and I played a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game with two other strangers. One of them picked Waluigi, thought it was so funny, and was a shrill, screaming manchild the entire game. I was playing as Link, won the game, and then he kept screaming "WHO WAS LINK?! WHO WAS LINK?!" like it was hilarious. And he was probably older than I was.

Not that I'm generalizing every single person who wants the character. Not every Waluigi fan is shrill and immature, of course. There are some people who genuinely like him and would seriously play him, but they're definitely the minority.

If he does ever get added, it will probably be funny for a month, give or take, and then everyone will go home.

Incidentally, what are your thoughts on other characters who are part of the Assist Trophy "glass ceiling", regarding their fanbases?

Well he won't say it. But it's certainly a possibility.

Based on how he said it and the entire intention behind the mode, I'd say it is possible it is characters he gave a small role to in a certain way and that's it for them. Especially since DLC was announced in the very same Direct the mode was introduced.

Like I keep saying though...find me a non-fighter Piranha Plant spirit and I'd drop this theory. But ruling it out at this point of time is a bit silly.

I realy think this trailer "backwards for no reason" is a Hint.

And people talked about the Square Enix DLC to apear on "The Game Awards"

Maybe we will see Crono as the first DLC there

I think it’s fair to say that Sakurai hasn’t exactly been super clear about when DLC was chosen. During the direct, his comments on Rex could be interpreted as the DLC being decided very early on, at least before 2017, while his tweet could be interpreted as him saying that DLC has been picked recently, at least some time in 2018. But then one must question what ‘finished’ in this context means, which only furthers the confusion alongside Vergeben talking about the Square rep in August.

Honestly their hard deconfirmation just makes me hope that other parts of the Grinch end up being real via DLC or extra content.

If he all of a sudden today decides that he wants to bring back Waluigi, I'm sure he can talk to Nintendo and make it happen. I don't think he has a rulebook that he glances to, opens up page 78, and reads "Assist Trophies must not become fighters." Past patterns and tendencies may be consistent with present actions, but to think he's that restricted... I dunno. Hell, if he wanted to make a playable Beam Sword, he could probably do that. *shrug*

One of the first mods I hope happen are ones were ATs are made into actual characters since many of them have actual hitboxes, including Isaac.

It's gonna require a ton of effort to make that happen. The most useful thing most of the ATs have is a handful of animations, GFX, and the model itself. Everything else will need to be done from scratch.

Not really. But there's no point operating on "well what if AT's can be characters" as there's no precedent nor sound reason for it ATM.
