Hypothetically, a DQ character, Katalina, Steve, a Western 3rd Party (Rayman?), and one other character is pretty good. IMO

They probably think a Western character will balance out Katalina too

Yeah if it's Rayman and someone with a more global appeal, that's really good.

The character that isn't for your region basically ends up being like $2 if you buy the bundle, which is honestly not worth making a big deal about.

its really bad, trust me. most characters share the same sets and only get like three moves unique to each. rayman at least gets to be a "new" character, but poor shovel knight is just a reskin of another character

Still not something to expect. Rare is neck deep in Sea of Thieves and an announcement THAT big would be saved for E3. This is essentially Microsoft's version of a Direct.

You can do a bunch of stuff with Steve... crafting, placing blocks, and using Ender pearls and such...
And besides, if anyone can make his move set work, it's Sakurai

He has more moveset potential than the vast majority of potential characters, I'm sure Sakurai would figure out something for him. I'm not worried about that aspect, at least. Technically speaking, Minecraft revolutionized the gaming landscape, so I guess he deserves to be in as much as someone like Bayonetta, if not more so.

I'm more worried about Katalina, she seems a bit dull and is the most predictive character of all time, right up there with Corrin.

Why do people keep saying this? He didn't push the blame at all. He was simply transparent-as Sakurai usually is-and stated that Nintendo selected the DLC because to imply that he did and no one else is disingenuous.
If he had mixed thoughts on these newcomers I doubt he'd have approved them.

From both of his statements I translate it as Nintendo picked the characters this time so none of your Isaacs, Genos or Banjos are getting in.

Rare don't have to make a new Banjo. They could hire another developer to do it like with the newest Killer Instinct.

maybe its just me but something just feels wrong about minecraft being next to franchises like mario and pac-man

you can argue popularity all you want, but sometimes a character just doesn't feel right, and that can't really change
