Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I mean the NoA tweet literally means nothing beyond "Hey wasn't this a fun game? Anyone remember it?"
It's still odd how it came out of nowhere on the game's 22nd anniversary.

I'm not saying it increases his chances, but that at least they acknowledge him.

We still got K. Rool back from the dead thanks to fan requests. I'm just trying to point out why thinking it will be 100% promotion sounds silly.

Nahh, every time a Nintendo PR person opens their mouth it's about Smash.

I mean, it's not like Nintendo makes other games or anything silly like that.

My stance is still wait and see the first DLC character before assuming anything.

The game isn't even out yet and we're worrying about DLC. I know the thread is literally titled "DLC speculation," but I can't be the only one who just wants to get my hands on the game and enjoy it for what it's worth and then wring my hands over DLC later, right?

Unless the choices are like all awful or something I guess I would still get the season pass for the stages alone. Lack of new stages in the base game is probably my (only?) major complaint for Smash Ultimate.

I am excited to get the game, indeed.

I may even take my Switch to High School just to play with my friends as fast as possible.

I mean, they do make other games but they are kinda obscure, like that spin-off game that stars :ultisabelle::ultvillager:.

Wait you actually want to PLAY the game and not just repeat the same speculation conversations for months?

I mean, they finally got slapped in the face and allowed K. Rool to come back, along with aspects of his original design. They seem to at least care about some fan-input.
Accurate representation of negotiations for K. Rool:

i wouldn't say that.. They could be the next Dreamworks Pictures if they stop milking Despicable Me..
Well, I did hear that their Mario movie has Miyamoto's creative spark, so we'll see what happens.

Well that made me question it a bit, but what's stopping both from being? Those looking for owning can have the mini (limited number of games), and those looking for a library can have that subscription :)
I see Goemon on the N64 likely.

Konami has given games to the NES and SNES Mini already, so Goemon could probably get in the N64 one alongside Bomberman.

Really after K. Rool I mostly checked out of speculation. I'm still carrying torches for Banjo, Dixie and Bandana Dee but my enjoyment of the game won't be greatly affected by their inclusion (or exclusion). The rest would be characters I'd be happy for the fans of (Sora), or indifferent to mostly.

Which I guess is why it's counterintuitive to post in the speculation thread. Oops. At least, I wish some of the sky-is-falling panic would chill out.

The first Despicable Me was pretty good.. their issue is the same issue Disney is having right now is they had one hit and are going to milk it for all it's worth. And unlike disney idk if they can afford to do that.. of course Dreamworks who i compare them too most did something similar with Shrek at first... And then they made Shark Tale and nobody was sure they could ever be taken seriously again.

But a 22-year-old game made by a company that formed into Square Enix?
Who knows, maybe it is. However, I would caution reading too much into things, as Nintendo rarely hints. Like, raaaaaaaarely. 9 times out of 10 fans read into things.

At least Dreamworks improved with Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon.

I liked those movies.

That behaviour kind of implies people aren't allowed to talk about something unless they fully own everything or something lol. Also, isn't SMRPG on the SNES classic? Could have just been promoting that
Of course, but they specifically mentioned characters they don't own at all.

I'm not saying it greatly increases Geno's chances but that it's not like Nintendo forgot about him and that Geno fans should lose hope :/

I'm not even saying that it's a hint ._.

I'm saying that people shouldn't lose hope over obscure characters, because Nintendo has at least acknowledged them before. My reasoning has nothing to do with Smash other than Nintendo finally allowing K. Rool to be used.

Yo, kindered spirit. This game may actually get me to buy a Switch depending on the first few DLC or so, so I'll likely do the same as for Smash 4 and play the dang game for a few years.

Before anyone asks, I did make sure to stockpile some Switch games, just in case.

Even Blue Sky gets good when it adapts stuff and doesn't milk Ice Age to death.

What do you mean? It's not like we ever used the color of chairs to indicate a character was coming or something.

As someone who's been a big Smash fan since 2003, but never participated in discussions here or anywhere else until this year, I find it bizarre how people seem more invested in speculation than in the game itself.

I'm here primarily because I can't wait for the game, and I've been that way since June when it was announced, solely due to the E3 presentation. Speculation or no, I just can't wait to get my hands on the game in a month. My family and I have been playing Smash Wii U pretty consistently for almost four years, so a new game with more characters, polish, and balancing is so exciting to me.

The fact that I finally got a character I've desperately wanted for like 11 years only adds to the hype, but even without that, I'd be very happy with the game and probably enjoy it more than any other game I've played in years.

Man, looking at this really makes me appreciate spirits more. I hope the chronicles list returns as well, if only to also represent the series who don’t get anything. I hope really obscure stuff like Sennen Kazuko still get spirits.
This goes to any fans of series with minor representation
Screenshot_20181107-181029~2.png

They can all rise up one day.

And also, there's bound to be more Spirit representation in the full game, I fully expect the number of collectible PNGs to go over 1000.

Hmph! Well I guess you're just a fake fan, trying to fit in the cool kids crowd. Honestly, who even PLAYS video games these days? A REAL fan only wants to talk about how what it might be, whine at the review scores and then talk about how the DLC might be

And Madagascar but since that came between Shark Tale and Shrek the Third that was more a one sensible step in a fit of drunken stumbling.. They eventually did work on new creative projects aside from Shrek and that's when they got their footing yes. If Illumination were to do the same thing.. Heck Sing wasn't that bad really. I mean it was a clone of Zootopia in premise but still more original ideas other than milking the same franchise to death is how Illumination will stop being a joke.

To be honest, i feel the exact same way as you do.

I joined just to kill the wait a bit and because i am usually bored, and while i am loving the place so far, people here may care too much about speculation.

I already got a load of Metroid content, K.Rool and more stuff that i wanted in; so besides maybe Crash and Banjo i feel like Ultimate is complete already.

So supposedly a Nintendo direct is incoming tomorrow but Nintendo didn't announce anything. Was hoping for an n64 classic announcement. But usually they announce in advance that a direct is coming so idk if gaming Intel is right about this happening tomorrow

If a Direct happens this week, i see it more likely on Friday.

To think Sakurai actually referenced a Nintendo kids' show that used those exact props...

Outside of that instance, the fanbase is the kind that would immediately go into deduction periods even if Sakurai just says "characters" as the only word in the entire Direct.

I do find some of the recent Geno discussion... peculiar. I dunno if it's just people puffing up their chests after not making it into the game, but saying stuff like "he completes the hype triangle with K. Rool and Ridley!" or "it's not Ultimate without him!" just feels very post-hoc.

While understandably Geno was a highly anticipated character for this Smash discussion and it's perfectly normal to be disappointed that he wasn't in, I don't think treating niche side characters as superstars sets realistic expectations. While I don't know why Geno didn't make it (other than possibly Square blocking it), I think Geno has been oversold substantially in speculation in terms of the character's significance, and while it might suck that he didn't make it, it's good to remember how minor of a character he really is and how impressive it is that he got what he got (a costume and recognition from Sakurai).

The Grinch leak definitely didn't help. It felt like we were all ready to accept Box Theory as being all-but-real, then for a single week the Grinch raised people's hopes only for them to come crashing down.

...even though personally, the character they announced was more hype than any non-bear on that fake roster. :ultincineroar:

THIS. I'm really only here to feed my hype for the game. Dec 7th? Won't be seen around here again (until Smash Omega or whatever it's called). I mean, being excited to PLAY the game is why we're here, isn't it?

I basically just joined speculation here to get away from gamefaqs for a while and I remembered that I had an account. lol.
Though honestly my only speculation had been me being sure we would get a pokemon and that Incineroar was likely it

Dude, i am excited to play with my friend who is a Pokémon fan as K.Rool.

Even the Classic Mode art with K.Rool and Incineroar felt to me like a look to the close future where i play as the King and he as Incineroar.

I am that hyped for both.

That's what I would have expected as well but apparently GamingIntel has a 100% track record on leaking Nintendo Direct dates. We'll see if they're right or not. Sometimes Nintendo does do unexpected direct minis

The Direct Mini could be likely.

If they reveal F-Zero on that one, the surprise would be even bigger.

That’s good marketing.

I don't mind Geno, but before him I'd want Captain Toad, Pauline, King Boo and Birdo as far as Mario characters go. Even Plum and Fawful if I'm feeling crazy.

But I'll be damned if I don't actually want his fans to eventually have their wish granted. Who knows how many more years it'll take before that finally happens, if it even does? So I can see where they're coming from. It's still more possible than seeing any new Mother additions (which already has pretty good representation overall, apart from :ultness: and :ultlucas:' abilities being kitbashes of other people's).
