Smash Ace
So glad that I can finally shelve my Wii U for good in a month. (Only to pull it back out in April for this stupid Shovel Knight DLC)
I'm so excited to play Smash Ultimate. Having watched GameXplain's coverage on World of Light, by God it looks huge. It's the first thing I'm diving into for sure.
So glad that Classic mode is super-diversified this time, doing that with all characters next. It stings that there isn't much to Multi-Man Smash anymore, but I'll do it as much as is needed to get all Challenges related to its modes completed.
All that's really left I'm wondering about is if Codec's and/or Guidances are back, or if they have a snazzy new replacement. And just how many Spirits I'm gonna be collecting to get them all.
I honestly don't care who's added as DLC, more characters to play as is already fun (though this is coming from somebody who already got his most wanted, take that for the selfish statement it is). I don't feel fit to really judge with any kind of predictions, they could go the route of picking super-popular characters that missed base roster (Bandana Dee, Elma, Paper Mario, Dixie), they might do promotional stuff (Three Houses rep, Gen 8 rep), or nab up some serious money-raking 3rd-party characters (Sora, DQ, Crash, Doom Slayer, the list goes on way too long), but I do have faith that the characters chosen will be good additions to Smash. Literally my only threshold is non-gaming characters, that's what'd take for me to not like a character's inclusion.
Ultimate has fully delivered on all the hype I've had stored up this whole hype cycle. The core gameplay and roster look to be the best in series history, and with them (seemingly) taking patches more seriously, we can look forward to a much healthier metagame. I can see myself actually enjoying this game for the next decade or so.
In my personal opinion, Sakurai and his team have more than delivered. I don't even own the game yet and I can comfortably wedge it into somewhere on my top 5 games of all time, just barely edging out Luigi's Mansion from the running, likely also beating Wario World, maybe even TTYD. I'll need to give it a while before I can tell how it stacks up to Okami and Pikmin 2.
At this point, I'm just along for the ride of watching the various meltdowns and arguments that'll erupt on this board throughout DLC reveals, this is gonna be a treat. Never give up on your most wanted, but don't put down somebody else's for the sake of championing your own. We're all on this wild ride together.
