IMHO I don't expect ANY first party characters as DLC.

Smash Wii U had 1 extra character compared to this game's DLC and only two of them were 3rd party. Not to mention legal negotiations and development of 3rd party characters is likely very difficult.

There's gonna be at least one more first party with Piranha Plant.

I'd say no, unless they'll stop limiting themselves in Mario characters. No RPG characters like Fawful? No Paulina? DK and Diddy, but no other DKC? They don't need to go outside Mario to shake things up, but it seems that's the only way it'll happen.

(Btw, this is coming from a Goomba main, Dry Bones secondary)

Pauline will get some service next time for sure, seeing how people loved her in Odyssey (the game was too recent to work her in here beyond background interaction anyways). Captain Toad is a toss-up, but it could happen too.

If they do want to shake things up, focusing on and would be a great next step.

Alright, before you all meme it up, I'm going to say that 4chan and 2chan are probably the worst places to go if you want a perspective on what people want.

I remember for a solid while some chuckle-****s were pushing Metal Mario as an echo and Peri from Fire Emblem Fates as a character for every single thread.

Okay, but Metal Mario is pretty iconic.

How could I abandon my boy? Yes, I often forget Piranha Plant is technically DLC.

The negotations for the DLC would take a bit...which is why they've got over a year to get it done. And with one being a Squenix rep, who they've already negotiated with for Smash, I imagine 4 won't be much trouble as we say it is.

Im kind of confused thought with what the said about KOS-MOS. She shows up in a lot of stuff with Namco and the Xenosaga series itself was bigger over in Japan than in the west so it seemed she was pretty popular. They not really popular over there or is that user just being a hipster?

If it's true that Sakurai planned to have the DLC characters in the base game, then clearly his goal isn't to sell more. And seeing Smash 4 with Lucas and Roy, I think Sakurai cares more about uniqueness and what he thinks would be good for Smash more than who's more popular.

DLC speculation here is going to be ****ing boring and not fun if people are going to be dismissed left and right because of popularity and how much they'd sell.

If Sakurai does move onto another Project, I hope he goes back to work on another new Kid Icarus game for a bit. Of course, it'd be interesting to see him work on another Kirby game for the first time in ages... Or a new IP, or work on some existing IPs in his own way.

Seeing as something happened during the production of Kirby Air Ride, I doubt he'll go anywhere near HAL again. I would also like to see him do a new IP.

It's a random guy on 2ch so...probably? Using the opinion of one guy as the entire Japanese fanbase just doesn't work, especially when it's a guy on 2ch. If you used my opinions as a representation of the entire US fanbase, then Tingle's surprisingly popular in the west.

Dee hasn't appeared as an AT or a Mii Costume, while popular characters like Skull Kid, Isaac, Rex, etc have. Seems odd for that to happen considering Dee's popularity, especially in Japan. I'm personally a firm believer in the Kirby Star Allies BWD flavor text confirming BWD as a candidate and Sakurai holding him off for DLC because Waddle Dee's in general are iconic and popular in Japan, so they are much more marketable.

It's not more messed up than the first part of MOTHER 3. In the first part, after Hinawa dies, Flint has to manuever around or through some zombies. Guess what one of their sprites looks like? I often find myself wanting there to never be another KI because I fear Nintendo might view gameplay of Sin & Punishment as too similar and pass on making a third, but then I remember they'll never make a 3rd S&P and my dislike of KI is irrational and unearned.

I think you may be overselling him a bit. If Sakurai was going to intentionally hold back a first party character because they're popular enough to sell as dlc it would have been Ridley or K. Rool.
