I didn't even know they were from Kingdom Hearts until it was pointed out (I haven't played the games), but no one seemed to disagree with it the last time it was brought up.

Explain that to me please.

Chrono Trigger is well regarded, but it isn't particularly relevant or oft requested by the general public (for Smash, at least. RIP Chrono Break trademark and all fan projects). Characters that haven't been center stage in a long time can still gain wide popularity in the right conditions, like Geno, but it just hasn't materialized for Crono. Other Square characters like Geno or Sora also get name dropped by leaks and insiders and are likely to make more of a profit through DLC, further leaving Crono in the dust.
... Which is really too bad, as Crono would easily be my first Square choice, and second third-party choice overall after Banjo. Gosh, that game is good.
I've actually seen his name come up more in this speculation cycle than last time, so at least that's something.

The idea of Square Enix doing anything with Chrono Trigger that isn't absolutely horrible is just so baffling to general audiences that they don't even consider him as an option.

He has no chance in Smash. He's not relevant. He was only in one game, to my knowledge, that was released on the SNES and re-released in the 2000s on the DS. DLC characters need to be relevant or iconic if they want to sell well. They need to be popular. Chrono is neither relevant nor iconic. And I don't think he's all that popular with the general Smash fans (the larger community). Maybe if he had a popular game that was released after 2010, then he might have a chance, but he's a dead character from a dead series with only one game. He will never be a DLC fighter in Smash Bros

Technically, Crono had a cameo appearance in Chrono Cross, not that this changes your point at all.

That being said, Chrono Trigger is considered one of the greatest RPGs (if not video games in general) of all time.

The only problem is that it's sequel (which was insanely ambitious) pretty much killed the franchise (for a multitude of reasons which aren't fully clear to me, maybe someone more versed in the Chrono series can explain).

as far as i know... she is not even the main character of the series.. she is like some kind of profesor oak... but she may star this spinof game (developed by platinium) but not even granblue fans are entirely sure.

the thing regarding katalyna is that.. she may not be teh protagonist.. but she seriously looks like teh best choice., plus her design is one of the more sensate and less "outright porn" (maybe thats why she would be chosen?) to the point that i might actually like her a lot if she is chosen, but dunno if i would feel teh same way if we get another granblue character XD (specially teh more waifu ones)

regarding the porn issue.. i didn't saw much people pulling teh "porn" card when pyhra was being talked... DX and if you ask me.. if granblue is looking to expand its audience, she may be the best bet.

You seem to be doubting the Tales of series' popularity.

Sora: Uses Flowmotion to evade some of them like Lucario and Greninja did, only to get got. Either that or tries to use reflect magic or guard with the Keyblade only to meet a similar fate to Link and Zelda.

Joker: Calls Satanael and tries to shoot at Galeem only for Satanael to go down before Joker himself.

Yeah, but it seems like the Granblue character is the Japan bait. Tekken is popular around the whole world.

Every time Sora comes up it makes me wish I had a PS4 so I could understand the hype this character is supposedly bringing.

If you didn’t play it earlier on, then the story will be difficult to appreciate. It was a marvel of it’s time and going back to it raises questions about it’s worth. The 2nd one stood the test of time for me, though. The third is because so can’t wait to see how they took one of my favorite series.

I still cannot say I particularly enjoyed the story or mechanics of most of the hand-held offshoots.

As happy as I would be with any SE rep as DLC, I'd absolutely lose it if Crono actually made it into Ultimate as DLC. Chrono Trigger left a lasting impression on me when I first played it, and made me a lifelong fan of RPGs, and I'd love any representation of it in Smash. If only we'd gotten Chrono Break way back when, then the Chrono series would probably still be alive and kicking today... it feels like a distant memory now.

Anyway, I'm going to hold out hope that he could make it in, even if his chances are slim. Sora is more widely recognized by gamers (and I'd admittedly love to see him as well, as a big fan of KH), DQ is huge in Japan (and another solid choice in my opinion for a rep), and while Geno's chances don't feel that great now, he'd still make for a good pick for DLC to pay tribute to SMRPG fans. That's also not discounting other viable choices they have in their catalog as well, such as Lara Croft, 2B, and a Bravely rep among others. SE really does have a rich, diverse catalog of IPs they could pull from for more representation in Smash, so I could honestly see something we aren't quite expecting make it in.

I'm really curious as to just who will make it in though. Whoever does get chosen is bound to be well-represented, considering just how much Sakurai loves to pay homage to each character's source material, especially among third parties.

Now I can't be the only person thinking this clearly sounds like the rant of someone who clearly has no idea about what they're talking about. First off now I know i'm probably the only person thinking this but Pirahna Plant actually makes plenty amount of sense despite what this guy thinks he is plenty iconic. When you think Mario regular enemies you think of three main enemies goomba, koopa, and Pirahna Plant. He's an enemy that's been there since the first real Mario Bros game they are literally the third enemy you see on the very first level. Not to mention that let's not beat around the bush but out of the all the starter enemies Pirahna Plant is probably the most interesting/ cool looking design wise and they are an instantly recognizable character. So I wouldn't say that Pirahna Plant means that the roster means nothing just that people didn't think it would happen because they couldn't envision a kit for him but Sakurai did so it happened. "Blemish on the roster" is just an entitled as **** asinine claim Pirahna Plant looks fun to play and that's what matters, Look I get you're butthurt x or y character you wanted added got deconfirmed but to call a fighter that actually looks like fun because it isn't what you personally wanted is childish as **** and you need to check your bias.

Crazy that to think my favorite newcomer would be an Echo Fighter of all things. I mean, I would've been excited to have a Ryu clone but they went all out with all kinds of different properties. Even had a CGI trailer for the reveal, but I'm not as surprised as some may be. Ken is a huge gaming icon.

Weird to think Ken, the echo fighter, got his own CGI trailer while Ryu didn't. If I'm not mistaken, Ryu's trailer used his in-game model.
