I've held that we would be seeing an October direct since August, and I don't intend on budging, so I'm speculating around it.
If I'm wrong I'm not particularly upset by that, and if I'm right I'll get to use the dabbing Geno gif again like I did with Isabelle

The day Isabelle was revealed as a semiclone I rejoiced because I was so sick of hearing about how she's just gotta be a Villager echo.

Isabelle being unique was the biggest upset in speculation so far imo. The only thing that might beat it right now would be a different Pokemon because Incineroar has basically squashed all conversation on other Pokemon reps.

I'm pretty sure I've seen MkLeo and Mr. E both use Lucina more than Marth the last 6 months, and Zero and Nairo have historically favored her as well.

Part of this shift was definitely patches. But most of it, particularly for Lucina, has been just evolved public perception.

Just a follow up to my question posed earlier: how do your mains appear to be shaping up with respect to their tools, movement, mechanic changes, etc? This applies to everyone ofc, and hopefully isn't too off-topic

Haven't seen a whole lot of footage of them yet, but
I'm really liking his new down throw. ROB having his grabs/throws buffed makes sense, as grabbing stuff is literally all the real-life ROB peripheral does. Also, great to see ROB mains in this thread!
Really need to see more footage of him to determine what the implications of his changed grab (now involving all his Pikmin) are
As long as he's still fun, I'll still main him - hopefully he's had some buffs we've yet to see, though
I'm going to miss his old one-two Fsmash.

Isabelle a semi clone instead of an Echo is still satisfying so people can stop assuming that just because every single character on the roster can have an Echo fighter doesn’t mean they should.

Because the pattern's been Inkling (biggest video game franchise in Japan for the past three years), then huge hardcore audience pleasers: Daisy, Ridley, Simon/Richter, Chrom, Dark Samus, and King K. Rool. Isabelle doesn't really fit into that group, and neither does Incineroar/any Pokemon, so I was skeptical of both.

Now, though, they could add almost anyone. Though I imagine they don't want their last announcement to be "Meh," so I think we're still going to get a huge character as the last announcement, and that wouldn't be a Pokemon. A Pokemon could be announced before, but probably not last.

So they're like Ridley in this scenario, except before Ridley we had Daisy, also. And then after Ridley we got the August 8 Direct, where all the characters were also long-standing requests that were finally granted. So Ultimate is a little different.

Still, you're right in that it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for the hype announcements to fizzle at the end. But given the way Ultimate's been conceived and marketed so far, I think it's more likely that the last announcement will be another mind-blower like the previous ones.

I just want Incineroar to be revealed at this point. Ideally hoping Skull Kid gets in but still on the fence if he will make it in. Incineroar is my next go-to, as he quickly became my favorite pokemon of all time when Sun and Moon came out

Pretty sure if the main focus of this game was long requested characters, Sakurai would've made it obvious and clear.
I see the ballot as a little base, or a bit of suggestions if you will, but not the be all end all character decider. I mean Inicneroar already disproves it...
I wouldn't be surprised if the final characters are just little niche additions Sakurai chose just for fun...

Oh, we're talking about character changes we like? I could list a few...

: He looks so stinkin' slick to play as, holy cow. The new Smash attacks especially look super satisfying to pull off, so I'm definitely giving this guy a go as soon as I unlock him.
: HE HAS THE SHOULDER BASH BACK AAAAAAAAAAA! ...Oh, and his new forward tilt looks good. I like how fast it looks.
: He looks like he may actually be competent this go around, which I am completely okay with. Pichu is fun.
: He actually smiles and acts more like himself now. That makes me very happy, as that's been something that's been frustrating me since Brawl.
: I like the new animations, they look really nice and help him stand out from Mario even more than he already did.
: He looks like an absolute joy to play with those fast grabs. His new Final Smash is probably my favorite one in the game right now.
: Probably the most expressive character we have right now next to Dedede. The new Final Smash really won me over, and it's safe to say I plan on playing a fair bit of DK when the game comes out.
