No, I think of Rayman 1 which was a 2D side scroller.

With all due respect the vast majority of peoples' first Rayman game was Rayman 2 because it launched on basically every platform at the time and was a bigger hit than Rayman 1.

There's a good reason Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 became 3D platformers the genre had evolved.

Melee's roster was leaked but it was by text. It was pretty funny because nobody had a clue who Roy and Mr. Game and Watch were. I remember a lot of people thinking ".... Roy from Mario? ....w-why?"

I remember reading the stories of Melee's leak during the pre-Brawl days, thinking about how ridiculous the idea of Roy Koopa getting into Smash was and how anyone could have even considered it. Little did I know...

For Ubisoft we have The Prince, Rayman, Ezio and Jade for being possible playable character candidate for SSBU.

Also whenever they want for an ESRB leak of the game lol

I think you are about spot on with these, I cannot see it be anyone besides these 4... (Except for maybe the Just Dance person )

The Prince: Despite his franchise not having a new release since 2010, he is still a pretty iconic character, and Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time is considered one of the greatest games of all time.

Ezio: Out of all of the Assassin's Creed protagonists, he seems to be the most iconic, usually being chosen for guest roles like in Soul Caliber 5. Also, Assassin's Creed is one of the few remaining franchises with over 100 Million units sold that has yet to be in Smash yet.

Jade: Despite originally being overlooked by other major releases at the time, Beyond Good and Evil went on to become a cult classic. Also, she could make a great representation for Gamecube Era Third Parties (Kinda like how Sonic sorta was in a sense).

Rayman: If any Ubisoft character is getting in, It's Rayman. He's the Mascot of the Company, and he even had some of his games published by Nintendo in Japan. Also, assuming the trophies of Rayman, Globox, and Barbara are anything to go by, Sakurai at least knows about the franchise...

Outside of the context of Smash, Corrin is kinda boring and Fates could prove to be more interesting for sure.

Technological limitations. Rayman 2 started out as a sidescroller until they took the next step.

For me only 3D platform Rayman games are main series titles for me. I dont think it would be controversial to include origins and legends as main series games but they didnt have a story. For me they didn't have that main title feel.

But the first game was 2D..

No but there's a big reason everyone looks forward to the next 3D Mario and Zelda. Would everyone be as hyped for a 2D Mario on switch as much as galaxy 3 or Odyssey?

To retract my previous post somewhat when I say main series title I mean in the modern day mario 1-3 are main series titles despsite being 2D due to the era they were in same with Mario World.

When you hit the post 64 era then you would consider the 3D mario games as the main series titles and NSMB as the spin off titles.

You can't constitute what is and isn't mainline title by personal preference. NSMB is a mainline title of it's time, despite ur being dissatisfied it wasn't 3D

I'm still of the belief that Smash should be reserved for video game characters until the barrel literally can't be scraped anymore, and I'd have reservations, but hot damn if he wouldn't be a fun as hell character to play.

at this point Smash is just boiled down to "a game I really like to play" regardless of who winds up making it in
I don't think i really had an attachment to the video games-only representation though

I think female corrin is way more appealing than male corrin. it's a shame male is default, especially when we already have male as default for robin.

Yep, We'd be talking about the first western third party character to ever get in Smash.
I mean someone else could get in before him like Crash or Banjo Kazooie, But with how huge and iconic Minecraft and Steve are, I think he deserves to be the first one and kinda break the barrier, ya know?

I can’t really think of any 3-D Mario spinoffs in the NES/SNES era aside from Super Mario RPG (and Super Mario Kart, though some would be hesitant to call that 3D). For Sonic... yeah, there were a few 3-D spinoffs prior to Sonic Adventure, namely Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Labyrinth, and Sonic R, all of which were platform-genre games (though Sonic Labyrinth had the gimmick of giving Sonic intentionally terrible mobility, including not allowing him to jump (yes, there was a reason for this; Eggman sabotaged Sonic's shoes... this was a Game Gear game, plot wasn't a big priority) and Sonic R wasn’t so much a "platformer" as a racing game with gameplay mechanics similar to a platform game). Then again, if Sonic R can be considered to have "platformer" as a sub-genre, so can Super Mario RPG.

The only issue I ever had with Corrin is the bare feet, other than that I like the design. Like, it's just so illogical to wear armour, but then go "shoes? Nah." Enjoy your cut up feet on the battlefield.
