I don't know if I'd be willing to even bother with the new game, especially at a competitive level.

Competitive makes sense to me. Casual doesn't. I guess that's where I'm coming from.

Learning a new character does take a long time, but also with each game you run the risk of your preferred character to be nerfed like crazy anyway.

But yeah, fair enough.

Anyone else find it amazing the amount of speculation that has been done based on only knowing:

-Sakurai is making it
-Inklings are in it
-BOTW Link
-Veterans are returning

I've been here since 2006 and the original Brawl trailer gave us 5 veterans and 5 newcomers and we got ONE veteran roughly six months later. We then wouldn't see another veteran for yet another six months and, between the E3 2006 trailer and the next newcomer reveal, about A YEAR AND TWO MONTHS passed. Point is, people were driving themselves crazy but they were able to keep speculating that whole time, even crazier when you consider how Brawl speculation technically started at E3 2005 with a super vague "uh... yeah... we're TOTALLY making a new Smash (crap, why did I say that... better strong arm Sakurai...)"

I think a lot of people would beg to differ, and that's what Sakurai is scared of.

Not me personally. I was bummed by the lack of ice climbers but it gave me a reason to want to play brawl sometimes, so that was fun.

See, I prefer having everything in one place. Once the new game comes out, I almost never touch the old one, so cuts are a bit disappointing.

So...I may be interpreting this wrong, but from what I read before the leakers of the "Ridley" leak are backpedaling? Like they don't have complete confidence in their source?

How do you go from "hype train", "Ridley is coming!" to "Eh, I'm not so sure"?

Also, with the Nintendo Direct...if the people involved were hinting at Ridley being revealed...why would Nintendo suddenly decide to not reveal Ridley? What on Earth would make them suddenly change the content of the Direct? I don't buy it.

Hate to be pessimistic, but something isn't right about that. Either the informant is fabricating something, or it's a big joke. I'm skeptical of it as well, because the entire meme of Ridley being "too big" is in context to Smash. So, for all intents and purposes, could the people involved have used the wording to refer to Smash itself rather than any given character? Clearly Ridley is particular character that bears the burden of the "too big" meme, but what if Ridley was a red herring the entire time?

I don't know, but I don't like it!

Jiggs was added because she could reuse some of Kirby’s animations.

People probably got tricked just like with the ESRB piggy backers.

The whole "resetERA hints" was already circulating, but MM (a person who knows nothing and never will) added some details.

Jonneh might be backpedaling though. Emily probably was never involved. MM just made things a bigger deal then they were and people got to assuming more than there was.

Personally I think they're trying to cover themselves while tempering expectations. Seems like they're all making statements as one would do when information wasn't supposed to be proliferated. I put more stock into what was said in confidence than public statements tbh, but ultimately all we can do either way is take it with a grain of salt and play the waiting game. It certainly can't hurt to remain skeptical.

You were in the video, but it was when you and @Swampasaur were bantering about Memory's Daisy obsession. I may do it, if only to bait him into commenting on the video should he ever see it, but most people on this thread are barely on speaking terms with him as is, so I ultimately decided to cut it.

Never stopped Sakurai before. I think Smashville has had one song that could be misconstrued as not completely dissonant with it being a fighting game. Don't get me wrong, it's my favorite stage, but not for the appropriateness of its tracks.

He is referring to the lack of the most deserving, iconic, popular and relevant character in Nintendo's history.
