Anything's possible, but I'm kind of afraid if Shovel Knight couldn't break in, she might not be able to either.

She does have a few things going for her above Shovel Knight, being:

- having a longer history with Nintendo
- not being on non-Ninty consoles until HGH was released
- more expressive (i.e. not faceless)
- more interesting moveset potential

Plus, she stands a bit more of a chance to get in the base roster compared to Western indies that took forever before getting on a Nintendo console.

If Bomberman and Shovel Knight can't make it in, I don't think Shantae will

Well, we can't be sure what will happen. Even Ken could possibly not get in, so we'll have to wait and see what the final judgement is.

I think Shantae actually has a good chance to make it in despite not being brought up a lot, and that's not just because she's one of my most wanted. Aside from ULTIMATE SLEEPOVER PARTY, and EVERYONE IS INVITED, and Jammies mode in general. I just find it strange that WayForward, the people who pushed so hard for Shantae to be in Smash during the ballot, as outright not replied to not even a single Smash related post on Twitter.

They don't even say something vague like "Yeah, it'd be cool if Shantae made it into Smash," "We're glad to see so many fans want to see Shantae in Smash," or even "You'll just have to wait and see." That way, they could say something without breaking their NDA. Also I feel like if she was DLC instead of base roster they wouldn't be as silent as they are now but that's just me. It's all so very mysterious.

Hey, whether she's playable or an Assist, Shantae just might be locked in to appear in some form for all we know. Patience, my child.

I'm hopeful Shantae's ballot performance was good and that the reason she's playable and SK isn't is because Yacht club has it's fingers in all the indipendant pies. (Rivals of Aether and Indie Pogo for example.)

Apologies if it seemed like I was bashing Shantae, I really, truly wasn't. She is something I would enjoy very much, however, I tend to pessimistic when it's something I want.

Shantae would be very cool and is far from impossible, however, I'm not sure she has great chances either. I think she kinda stands somewhere in the middle, IMO. She does have a little more going for her than SK did, however, they both still retain the same status as indie, which I'm unsure how those stand in Smash after SK's AT. To each their own, though: There really isn't anything that says it can't happen, which I'm glad for. I want her a lot, as she could bring very unique things to the table.

I'm a Shovel Knight fan myself, and I have to admit that Shantae's stuff has more creativity for a possible moveset. SK's stuff is perfectly adequate for a moveset, but not necessarily what Sakurai's looking for.

I'd hope appearing in rival platform fighters wouldn't affect his odds so too but you can never tell with Nintendo.

(Especially since that'd tank Rayman's chances.)

I’m not normally one to brag about a character getting in despite all odds, normally their inclusion says enough.

But man, if Shantae ever does become a playable fighter, that “I Was Wrong” thread is going to be absolutely glorious.

Regardless, I think Shantae will make an appearance in Ultimate in some form or another. Probably not a fighter, but an Assist Trophy or regular Trophy seem plausible.

Seems to be a thing with game development where any buffs MUST come with a nerf, even if it puts the character right back where they started. Poor Zelda suffered from that crap for two games straight.

I love Shantae's design, and the overall aesthetic and music of the series. And everyone loves rooting for an underdog.

But I just don't see it. It's never been a top-selling franchise, and to my knowledge, there's almost zero support from the East. Ridley and K. Rool being western requests but still getting in feel different; they have a long history within major Nintendo IPs and have been requested since Melee. Shantae is more of a last-3-or-4-years thing. Despite the kickstarter's success, I just feel like there hasn't been a large enough or vocal enough audience for her to be considered by Sakurai when the initial roster was decided upon three years ago.

I'm still glad he can counter Bayo's Up B recovery with an ordinary hydrant now.

We'll have to see. I think being on a Nintendo thing alone is enough courtesy to be viable, otherwise Juan would have been talked about more despite being in Brawlout, if his series didn't take until now to be announced for a Nintendo console, for instance.

I know it will, a good video game is really all I need to power through the rest of the year. I'm simple like that.
November's a toss up, it depends on whether I like Let's Go or not. But once December hits it's all smooth sailing until 2019 and Gen 8.
