I do not expect a Smash Direct for this month. More likley the fighter of the month reveal will be part of another Direct with a game that is related to Smash. They have to show something in November, too.

We've never had a character reveal tacked onto a non general/smash Direct before, there's really no reason to think this'll happen now.


If we don't get a Smash Direct this month, then a Robin/Lucina reveal is way more likely.

Yeah I mean I have no doubt that Cygames would be thrilled at having a character of theirs in Smash, but how does Nintendo possibly justify that?

I’m an Isaac supporter and I have been since before Brawl, so I have a lot of patience for unorthodox picks and I hate dismissing anything out of hand. I even see the logic behind Steve, who is part of one of the undeniably largest franchises in the world. But Granblue is a bridge too far for me. I’ll continue believing it’s 100% impossible until it happens and then all I’ll be able to do is shake my head. At the very least I hope Isaac and Banjo are in by that point.

As a K Rool fan I know the feel of waiting. But a Granblue character - like every character - will make some people really happy, so might as well just enjoy it.

It’s not gonna effect Isaac or Banjo anyway. If Sakurai wants them in he’ll put them in, either base of DLC

I think the funniest thing is, Smash has always had 'gacha' elements to it.


The trophy machine in Melee was LITERALLY a gacha machine.


Katalina in Smash would be Smash finally accepting its own gacha legacy.

There's no justification for an advertising character in a limited roster, particularly one from a mobile game. It's the one big red flag, among many, why it's difficult to take Hitagi seriously. And even if we do take him seriously, with the possible Switch updates we know nothing about (he said it was a Switch Pro, but it could just as easily be a more affordable Switch to go after the 3DS install base), he's flipped flopped on both the Granblue character and Steve. I've tried to take him seriously, since Verge does, but it gets harder and harder to.

People definitely use those theories as a bludgeon though. You have no idea how many times I’ve been told “Isaac can’t be in because Verge said only Incineroar and Ken and squeenix are left” when what they actually mean is “I don’t want Isaac in the game because I don’t care about Golden Sun.” At least I’d respect their honesty for the latter opinion. Verge is plenty fallible.

Vergeben might be saying those characters are in, but it's stuff like box theory that says these are the only ones.
And it's not like I take you particulary seriously when you call people that believe leaks for cults, especially since you here admit the leaks being more just an excuse for something else.

I'm not using a limited roster against DLC, but as a base game it would be a bad choice--which is what was being discussed. It's not clear to me what he said originally, going back and trying to confirm it, as the only post I can find so far is the one where he gave the cryptic "wonder why Cygames sponsors..." I know for Steve he originally just blurted it out like a 4chan crazy leaker, but then backtracked. But I can't find anything definitive of him talking about a Cygames character in Smash, so I'm probably missing the exact post.

Frankly, I don't think even Japan themselves would be up for it, either. Yeah, it's huge in Japan, but so are practically a lot of these types of gacha franchises like Kantai Collection, Azur Lane, iDOLM@STER mobile, Love Live! School Idol Festival, the list would keep going on. Bandana Dee, Rex & Pyra, Sans Undertale, Crash Bandicoot and Sora are characters they have in mind, but the last character that would be on their mind would be someone from Granblue.

I honestly just think Cloud is gonna be the farthest we can go, when it comes to reachability.

I forgot that Sakurai have a modded version of Mario Kart where he but every Characters people want and only the one winning the most races can get in.

It's absolutely not because he made a design documents with things HE want with at worst Characters getting cut with time constraints. Or it's not because it's DLC and he can do whatever the **** he want for DLC because Nintendo Try-hard won't have to whine and buy the Characters to taint their precious roster.

But no seriously, I said that Incineroar is slow for a fully evolved pokemon. Obviously I don't think that Pokemon stats are 1-to-1 between Pokemon and Smash Bros. I'm not stupid. I think the blog theory is too vague and can be both true and false at the same time because it's simply so vague that wathever happens you can say "see, the blog theory was right".

Though, I think that the blog theory makes little sense because it's assuming that the pattern wouldn't change... and today it changed, they made the first memories post.
Also, even if it's true and there are 6-8 new characters to show, what makes you think that they aren't DLCs and they are all in the base roster? Maybe they will announce DLCs before releasing the game (with some content given for free if you do the online thing), and the final characters shown on the blog aren't in the base roster. Everything can happen and the blog theory is just too vague.

No.

All we know is that the Japanese playlist of the 20 second fighter clips on the website was tampered with recently, and the "NEW!" disappeared on the fighter tab.


The only time the playlist on youtube was messed with were both ten days before the 8,8 Direct, and before the September 6th Direct.



Theoretically, it could be either the 10th or 11th, but we haven't had an official confirmation.

You know how the download code came out recently with empty spaces next to Ryu and Isabelle, I think this might actually be our first hard evidence against the Box Theory. If their is an empty space before Ryu and after Isabelle it would match the download codes (which have been distributed so those designs are final) and still look symmetrical.

At least I'm hoping it's a character we have zero knowledge of--we need a K Rool like surprise. But yeah, I don't want to go too hard on Hitagi, but I really would like to take him seriously if Verge knows more about him. I just can't at this point, but we'll see.

Ugggggh Alax, that stupid Reddit post and Gamexplain have done everything in their power to obfuscate what's really a simple assumption. It's not like I'm that confident in analyzing the blog as of late (still keeping track in Excel since the August Direct), ever since Sakurai's recent statements. But using the *average* character posts per week to get a *maximum* number of 7-8 characters in the roster is as simple as it gets as "theories" go. It's not as ridiculous as some people claim. Likely? No longer at this point. Improbable? Still not, given there's still ample time for reveals.

I'm not a supporter of the Box theory (I think it's a possibility but I also think it can be wrong), but this thing of the download codes, if anything, it gives more credibility to the box theory, since there are still 2 empty spots one of which is near Ryu.
They can move the characters in the version with all the fighters, so it doesn't matter if the space is before Ryu, what matters is that the space is near to Ryu, or to be more precise, on the same line as Ryu.
Well, since in an hypotetical new version of the thing they can move all the characters, it doesn't even matter where the space is, it's 2 spaces, totally matching the box thing that also has 2 empty spaces.

The person I responded to said that the Box would have a blank space before Ryu on the side we can't see, which would...imply a Duck Hunt Echo, since Ryu and Duck Hunt are right next to one another.



I assume he meant 'After' Ryu, so each side would have 1 blank spot just for an aesthetic thing, but Ryu isn't the last character on the side of the box we can't see, it's Cloud.
