Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Xenoblade 2 as a whole is gutter trash
Damn, if one chapter that unequivocally made that game pretty much the greatest RPG of this generation trash, then I'm scared of what you think of Final Fantasy VII. :nifty:

Zeke's JP VA is also Seto Kaiba's, I can't consider it trash for that alone.

But also English Rex is a little painful.
Zeke I'll let it slide, but the ****ing moment you make Morag sound like a man and Nia a ****ty anime girl, I'm gonna pass harder than Shofu's bars.

I've said it before and i'll say it again. The fact that Xenoblade 2's character design is so unbelievably moe will never not be hilarious to me.
Sir, you said moe wrong. Here's how you pronounce it.

A little?

More like a lot.

It's not nice to stab someone you jerk!

It's even worse because the voice actors for Xenoblade 1 were all so good. Not to diss Xenoblade 2's voice acting, but it just doesn't compare.

Yeah, I don't like it's overly anime fanservice artstyle...
One of the main reasons I want Elma over Rex and Pyra.
Also, Pyra's oufit is no E10+ material
They can always edit Pyra’s outfit like they did with :ultbayonetta: and :4corrinf:

You know, I see this get mentioned from time to time, but when Sakurai’s “slowing the pace of reveals” statement was released, it was originally intended for Isabelle’s original reveal in 9/6/18 where we would’ve gotten 6 total characters in less than a month.

Since they most likely have planned when to reveal the new charcaters, and the fact that the delay existed because of uncontrollable factors, it would’ve been almost a month without anything by the end of this week if Isabelle was revealed when she was supposed to.

Linking this to what we’ve seen recently, it makes sense why we may get a newcomer soon. It would’ve been a month without new information if everything went to plan, which would’ve fitted Sakurai’s line of slowing down reveals.

Eh. You ask me, I think the design complaints are over exaggerated.

Skye Bennett was great as Pyra/Mythra and I liked Morag's VA too.

I didn't enjoy any of the other VAs though. Doesn't compare at all to Xenoblade 1 and the amazing Jenna Coleman.

Eh...one hentai-ish character I’m ok with. 4? Sure. But when it feels like every single character is hentai? Eh...seems like your pushing it a bit.
Well then you and I have very different classifications on what we consider to be "Hentai" designs.

I've been saying this since last night.

People assume because we got Sakurai's column last week that it means it was written then and there, when it probably was written back in the first/second week of September.

Yes, an entire month is a perfectly 'slow' pace.

The direct in June was not a Smash direct.

It was the E3 presentation where they spammed reveals then focused solely on Smash :troll:
I don't care what Nintendo says, to me it was a Smash Direct and I WILL CLING TO MY THEORY OF GETTING A NEW SMASH DIRECT THIS MONTH!
It's a prank bros

It's less the design itself and more the design change overall.
I'll give you that. It did seem like the design shifted styles between games. In fact, I was more concered that the design would clash with the overworld, but my fears were laid to rest as Xenoblade 2 came out.

Really, the desgins don't upset as much as it does nearly other people.

I guarantee you that if Xenoblade 1 came out in this day and age, people will find plenty reasons to complain. Besides, it's a part of the whole series charm.

If this update reveals a Direct soon, then it shows that we get info early to mid of the month. I have a feeling that if there's a November Direct then it will follow that.

Silly interns. Thanks for clearing it up. I was afraid Sakurai actually thought she was a guy.
The home game is a bit ambiguous about how exactly Zelda becomes Sheik, but its heavily implied that her magic does not actually change her sex, only make it easier to hide it (deepened voice, face and hair hidden, muscle tone emphasized). So no matter how you swing it, Sheik has always been a girl. Because Sheik is just Zelda.

I find it hilarious that Sheik is occasionally treated by the Smash team as a spoiler, yet Mecha-Fiora is open season to be put on display prominently.

Skye Bennett and many of the other VAs did great. Heck, Rex's line aren't even that bad most of the time. It's just that compared to Xenoblade 1, it can't compare.
Huh you’ve probably never played Xenoblade 2 in your life or the first one that’s interstanding. :ultshulk:
What the heck is interstanding? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Anyways, I've played through the first 1/3 of Xenoblade 2 and just couldn't get into it. The characters aren't as enjoyable, the tone is odd, it's way too much like an anime I would've watched in middle school, and the combat is overly complex compared to Xenoblade 1's combat which was already complex.
I guarantee you that if Xenoblade 1 came out in this day and age, people will find plenty reasons to complain. Besides, it's a part of the whole series charm.
The subpar voice acting? Xenoblade 1 had great voice acting, and wasn't nearly as anime as Xenoblade 2.

"Oh, it's just what series does" is a bad argument that doesn't refute any points myself or others have made about the game.

I don't think we're getting a Direct next week, but more like a standalone trailer like Robin last game. I'll be gladly wrong though.

That's a pretty good point, actually.

Assuming a standalone reveal happens next week or so, that does fit in line with a slower pace, especially if the final Direct does take until November to come.

Honestly everyone does. I guess Hentai isn’t the correct word. I feel their pushing the Boobies a bit too much is what I’m trying to say.
That is definitely not the correct word, and even still, what is a 'hentai' design anyway.

Like, because they're 'overly fanservice-y'? That's not hentai.

super mario rpg sold a little over twice as many copies as chrono trigger in the west, and while the game isn't super beloved in rpg circles, it is in nintendo circles. also, c'mon, greentexting with red text?
Regarding sales:
-You specify west, meaning not worldwide
-Chrono Trigger received more rereleases throughout the years then Mario RPG, meaning it reached an wider audience.
-Even if that were the case, you could literally slap Mario's face onto anything and of course it'd sell more initially in the west.
But most importantly
-Sales don't matter.

If they did, no one would be talking about Earthbound, a literal cult-classic.

Chrono Trigger has the critical acclaim and influence in the gaming world. Do you see Mario RPG in any "Top Ten Games of all time" lists? Do you see any games basing their mechanics off it that aren't other Mario RPGs?
You literally can't look at Chrono Trigger and not see all that it gave to gaming, from an actual good story, something rare in games at the time(FFVI being a notable exception); mechanics that would serve as examples of how to do the genre right, such as non-random encounters and a great difficulty curve, to other small things such as the enemy placement and skill interaction and double and triple techs; and things that would become staples of gaming as a whole, like the New Game+, while not the Ur-Example, is the Trope Namer and Codifier of almost every RPG nowadays.

I know I'm somewhat biased in this subject but to call and act like Mario RPG is more popular, influential and better than Chrono Trigger just smells like contrivances to try to justify Geno's inclusion

/Rant

Also
>Complaining about greentexting in red
Doesn't make my point any less valid

...I don't see the problem? I'm not mad if a fictional female character is "packing the bazookas" to speak, but I fear if we continue with this conversation, this thread will go down a rather unpleasnt road, so let's just agree to disagree.

I've never understood why people think that his, "It's pretty low to stab a man in the back." line is bad. IMO, it's actually a pretty good line.

His screams though...
Oof.

That said, I wouldn't be opposed to Rex in Smash.
I think that the XCX/XC2 characters have a lot that they could offer in Smash.

Yeah, not gonna lie, Rex and Pyra's designs are pretty terrible IMO. Nia, Morag, and Zeke are fine, but when the main characters themselves are eyesores, it kinda takes its toll on me, you know? To say nothing about how creepy Tora is...
