Yes it was. It was released on August 22nd in 2008 as part of the Hanabi-Festival of the Wii Virtual Console. I downloaded it the day it released, so yes, that's more than a decade.

That was released with Cloud and Chocobo at the same time so it may have been just a little pack-in deal because Sakurai does like the character.

This community has conveniently forgotten that had it not been for the concept of echoes, Chun-Li would be more demanded/expected than Ken.

Tails and Chun-Li should certainly be the frontrunners if 3rd party franchises get more then just echoes of their main/most iconic character (Which I don't think is an impossibility, especially when we get to DLC)

I mean, it's not really that hard. Capcom does it every time they make a Vs. game.

I remember the Official Nintendo Magazine was elated to finally be able to play it on a non-imported system.

And for years beforehand they'd taunt us all with features on how good it was and how it was a shame it never came to Britain.

Honestly, maybe. I just mostly know it was talked about as a cult classic for a long while there. I remember the idea of a remake being a big deal and then I didn't even realize it had been released on the DS. I don't have sales numbers or anything in front of me so I'm probably wrong and won't deny that.

I'd love Eggman to be in smash but I don't see it happening because he'll likely be a boss instead. The most likely trains for Sonic fans to ride on at this point are Tails and Shadow tbh

I had several friends who didnt even know who HW Impa even was lol but atleast they knew Cloud

Personally, I'd prefer if Impa brought her Naginata, instead of her Giant Sword O' Doom to Smash.

You know, I have to ask: Would anyone be legit upset if Geno or Bandana Dee really did get in? Considering the growing consensus of “literally who” and “Hat Goomba” that is being applied to the two of them respectively, I’m beginning to wonder if the detractors of those characters outweigh the fans.

The thing people forget about third-party characters (and something even Sakurai admitted in an article) is that both Nintendo and the company that owns said character must be willing to come to an agreement in order for said third-party character to be able to participate in Smash, for obvious legal reasons. If Square Enix doesn't care for the idea of Geno being playable, then there is simply nothing Sakurai can do about.

People think Sakurai can literally add any third-party character he wants easily when it is not that simple.

I'd like to attach a note to that and say that Classic Lara Croft would be a terrible choice as her repertoire is almost entirely based around realistic firearms, except maybe moving boxes and a grappling hook.

Modern Lara has more to work with (Bow & Arrow, Modern Climbing picks, setting things on fire) but I don't think that version appeared on a Nintendo console.

Geno was not released with the other SE costumes in smash 4. He received his own DLC (DLC 5) separate from anyone else with Splash art. That should tell you how significant Sakurai believes Geno is, or how much he likes him.

TBH I don't see him missing the Smash cycle this time. I think we will see him one way or another (DLC or Base)

Both side are Guilty from that. But I still believe that Geno fans refuse the possibilities that Geno might not be the choice.

I know you're joking, but the difference is that those splash screens were being used to demonstrate how Mii fighters could represent any fighter you've ever wanted. Geno's was used as blatant fan service.

Well the Link you provided only listed the release dates on the SNES on the side bar, so pardon me for thinking "No it wasn't" was meant that way.

People will agree with you solely because you support Geno and I don't.

I don't even actively support Geno, what you said was simply false, nothing else.
It's also not as if I'm against Geno, I actually think he has good chances and he'd be a good fit for Smash but there are many characters that I'd choose over him.

To be fair, the supposedly SF2-based Ryu has SF1's light/heavy system, a smash attack taken from SF3, and the focus attack from SF4.
