Tbh, characters ARE the biggest selling point of any fighting or crossover game, and Sakurai knows that, this whole game is about bringing back every single character that was in a Smash game before and then more.
If I could choose any FE character regardless of importance, I would probably go with Haar or Greil. Also yeah Merric is pretty important, but he's not from Awakening nor is he a leading lord. So he sadly has no chance. If I could choose any magic user though, I would go with Lyon.I just really like Virion lol. I was this close to adding Silque for the same reason.
I've always been of the opinion that if Merric were in any series other than Fire Emblem he'd be seen as a shoo-in. Best friend of the main character, has his own signature weapon that would bring a unique anti-air magical play style, is relatively plot important, was the first playable Mage, and was visually distinct from the rest of the cast.
The only issue is that he'd go against how his series picks characters, which seals his doom.

I agree. Would have been great to tweek Young Link's moveset too, make him more distinct from Toon Link. A Majora's Mask inspired moveset would have been crazy. A bit of a missed opportunity imo but i won't complain i mean, at least he's back

I feel like Tails has a good shot at coming in as DLC if Shadow isn't in the base game. Putting them in together would probably maximize the profit from Sonic fans.
xenoblade, FF character, Tomb Raider, DQ or Chrono trigger are the only ones that would excite an audience like the vgas.

Rosalina. She did after all recreate the universe at the end of Super Mario Galaxy. She's easily up there with Kirby (Who is stated to have infinite potential or whatever) and Shulk as among Nintendo's most powerful characters.Speaking of Tabuu, which characters could canonically beat him?

Of course it could just mean Tabuu's wings are that fragile. It's just that only Sonic is the only one fast enough to actually surprise Tabuu and get there to take out his wings before Tabuu can counter.
