Let's talk about DLC.

• How many characters do you think we're getting?
• Who do you think will be the first DLC character?

That should be enough questions. Hopefully it lasts us two pages. That'd sure be nice.

-I'm gonna play it safe and assume roughly similar to Smash 4; about 6 or 7 characters. Now that we have echo fighters, I am unsure if they'd count or if they'd be bundled with unique fighters.
-My gut tells me Banjo and Kazooie (if Vergeben is right about Minecraft presence and Nintendo/Microsoft have a working relationship in regards to Smash)
-Geno, Isaac, Banjo, BWD, and Skull Kid seem (imo) to have the biggest crowds of support, but I'm sure this is not fully accurate.
-Rhythm heaven (if its not in the base game) or Chrono Trigger (the one thing I love more than Smash)
-Hopefully a balance between both, especially now since we don't have to focus on Veterans
-Porky from Mother, Hades from Kid Icarus or Dr. Eggman from Sonic (I'd choose Dr. Wily but I feel like Eggman would have more of a shot.). I'm super biased towards heavies as you can see lol. Other than that, probably Dante. I personally believe that if Bayonetta deserved to get in, he deserves it more, being that he actually started her genre. Idk I love Capcom franchises, so Amaterasu, Monster Hunter, or Phoenix Wright would all be perfect too
-Similar to 4. If its a brand new character from a new franchise, it comes with new music and a stage. Perhaps echoes get packaged in with DLC uniques (example: Isaac and Felix)
-Season Pass, or at least I hope. It makes sense this time. And for Smash it will be the only one I've ever bought.
-Its possible, not sure. Mii Fighters seem more regulated now, but who knows.
- Isaac/Felix, Geno/Mallow, Sonic fighters (Shadow/Tails), not entirely sure here. Packs seem hard to me.
-If Break the Targets or All Star dont come back for base, I'd love for them to introduce new modes this way.

• Seven was in last game so I'll say seven to be conservative
• Geno or Isaac. Someone really popular like Mewtwo. Or as popular as they can be with K. Rool and Ridley already in. That or a 3rd party shock character like Doom Slayer.
• Geno, Isaac, for sure. Uh, then those shock 3rd party characters? A la Ryu and Cloud? Cloud and Snake especially were a big deal so yeah probably Doom Slayer or whomever would be the most hyped.
• Bethesda, Ubisoft, Camelot, maybe Wayforward. Tecmo Koei needs to bring me Hayabusa ASAP
• I dunno. At this point I think 3rd party might outweigh 1st party this time. The most likely I can think of first party wise is Isaac, Bandanna Dee, uh, Dixie Kong... who else? I mean Geno doesn't even count as 1st party so.
• Isaac, Geno, Bandanna Dee, Doom Slayer, Hayabusa. They're all gravy to me so I'll take anything I can get and be happy.
• I think it'll be structured like For's with the only other chance being there could be a Season Pass seeing how Nintendo is all in on those things.
• Separately or Season Pass. Don't see another way really. That is until DLC is over and they sell them as lump packs.
• Mii Costumes probably. I would love for them to sell alternate costumes for characters but I dunno about that seeing as how they can just upgrade most costumes to Echos and sell them like that.
• An echo pack would be really cool.
• Maybe. It depends on what we get in base game. I could see Break the Targets and Board the Platforms being DLC maybe. No big adventure mode though.
• Yep, more Smash is more Smash. I'll gladly take what they offer.

• Which character(s) do you think would cause the most hype, be it in the community or overall? Community: Rayman, Geno, Isaac etc. Overall: Guest fighters, fighters from Switch games.
• What additional series/companies would you like to see represented as DLC or could see being represented as DLC? An ATLUS character or more characters from Capcom, Namco and Square Enix qould be nice.
• Do you think there'll be a focus on third party DLC or first party DLC, or a balance of the two? Third parties with a dash of first parties. Though, it might be balanced, we don't have too much options from both.
• Who would you like to see as DLC? Sora, Spring Man, Bandana Dee all would be great.
• How do you think DLC will be structured? Similar to last time. Unless they are echoes, it takes time to develop fighters.
• Will characters be sold in packs or separately? Will there be a season pass? Seperately.
• Do you think we'll get more than just characters and stages (maybe more Mii Costumes, or a new class of purchasable items)? Mii costumes sounds most likely. Maybe new modes and music, too.

I'm going to be conservative and say 5 unique characters, with a few echoes to go along.

Who do you think will be the first DLC character?
Depends on the box theory thing, if it's true then Geno as our Mewtwo, if not then Geno (or whoever the SE rep is) will likely be on the base roster, and the first DLC is probably Spring Man.

Which character(s) do you think would cause the most hype, be it in the community or overall?
Banjo & Kazooie, both in the Smash community and in general. There are so many people desperate to see them being revived, and in a faithful fashion at that, and he'd fit right into Smash too.

What additional series/companies would you like to see represented as DLC or could see being represented as DLC?
Microsoft is probably going to join in on the party given their recent good ties with Nintendo. As far as series go Golden Sun does intrigue me, its inclusion in Smash could persuade me to try out the games.

Do you think there'll be a focus on third party DLC or first party DLC, or a balance of the two?
Probably (and hopefully) a balance between the two.

Again, assuming there's anything in the box theory, Skull Kid. I'd also love Crash.

There will probably be some bundles, especially if echo fighters are also done as DLC. Doubtful about a season pass.

I'm really hoping for DLC costumes for characters in general, I'd spend way too much money on different Samus suits.

Spring Man + Ribbon Girl, Skull Kid + Impa, Crash + Coco. Basically unique + echo.

No, seems like too big of a task to do as DLC, and I have confidence the launch modes will suffice.

Will you support DLC for this game? What would make you want to purchase it or not want to purchase it?
I'll probably buy all of the DLC just because I think I'll love the game, and at the worst it's at least good for matchup experience. The only thing that'd change that is if they release something that leaves me with a really bad taste in my mouth, like the Corrin + Bayo double whammy at the end of Smash 4.

It mainly depends on how long the post-production period is gonna be for this game, but if I were to be at the helm of Smash Ultimate, I'd try to push out maybe 10, three more than last time.

Either someone who's been requested for a really long time, or a third-party to kick things off with a bang.

• Which character(s) do you think would cause the most hype, be it in the community or overall?

If Banjo-Kazooie isn't making it in the roster, it'd be them. So many people have been vouching for the bear and bird, I can see them being the 2nd Cloud Bombshell.

Final Fantasy aside from FFVII. It's been too long.

A bit of a balance, maybe leaning more towards the first party to start things off, and go from there.

Since this isn't Smash 4 territory, I think maybe separating things into "Fighters", "Stages", "Others" would be good.

If you were to ask me, after buying Xenoblade Chronicles 2's season pass for Torna - The Golden Country, YES PLEASE. It'd be MUCH easier for people, I'd feel, if there'd be just a season pass.

It's certainly possible, but we don't know if stuff like Mii Costumes will be coming back, so who knows.

Of course! Smash 4's DLC didn't disappoint at all, so I'm down for going for another round.

Q1: I imagine that it'll probably be at least 8 Unique newcomers, and maybe 4 Echo Fighter DLC, which could be distributed through a free update or bundle.
Q2: A popular forerunner of the Ultimate speculation scene that may have been unfortunately skipped over. It'd have to be someone big, like Geno or Isaac (provided he's not in the base) since both of them are the last big fandom wants.
Q3: From 1st parties, I'd probably say Isaac if he's not in the base. As for third-parties, it'd be Geno or someone completely off-the-wall like Banjo & Kazooie.
Q4: From Nintendo themselves, I'd say Golden Sun. For other companies, maybe Capcom could see a Monster Hunter character added, or they could reach out to some Western third-party studios like Bethesda for Doomguy.
Q5: I think a balance between first and third party.
Q6: Isaac if he doesn't make the cut for the base roster, followed up by Skull Kid if he's not already a boss.
Q7: It'll probably be structured in content bundles or waves, one newcomer alongside a stage if they're a new franchise and some Mii Costumes thrown in.
Q8: See above, I think it'll be content waves. I doubt there will be a Season/Expansion Pass along the lines of Street Fighter V or Killer Instinct, but if there were to be one, there's a whole bunch of content promised in the future already.
Q9: I definitely think we'll see more Mii Costumes for DLC, but not Items. Items should be added in free updates.

I'd definitely support this game's DLC. Unless it were Freakin' Steve. At which I won't buy him.

My gripe with the 'blog theory' is something that others brought up when people started noticing 'hey, they're doing about 3 characters a week' back in July.


The simple answer is they can just slow down the reveals to about 2 a week.



With only getting roughly ONE blogpost a week that actually focuses on the Direct, if the last Direct actually is full of new info, I could see them slow down on characters and go over in more detail stuff from the next Direct.

-No more than 8 max, though considering echoes, maybe 12
-If Geno isn't base, him. I think he'll be base, though.
-Master Chief, Geno, Banjo & Kazooie, Shadow, any AT upgraded from the current Ultimate list, Rayman, Rabbids
-Anything from Imagineer(Quest 64), but uhhhhhh... Atlas perhaps? I do like 3D Dot Game Heroes, plus the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series are cool~
-A balance. Like last time.
-Brian(Quest 64), though Fulgore(Killer Instinct) is an excellent secondary option.
-Low price for Echoes, lots of packs. I think it'll be more like Smash 4 did it. Sakurai prefers accessibility. Season Passes overall make it harder for everyone to get what they want. It goes against his philosophy. I can't see Nintendo would approve of that, so it could go either way, but they respect the man.
-Definitely Mii costumes. Class, I doubt. Items, Stages, Characters, though, seem easy to pay for. Modes, like balance updates, are usually free. I don't think we had a regular free stage, as the other only one was Duck Hunt for the 3DS. Though I could see it be fine if it's a stage in single player updated for playable, but only in that case, and making it cheap is still fair.
-Echo Packs, Characters with Echoes from their series, the usual Stage/Character packs, and I'd expect Mii Costumes to be their own packs, though I could see some being combined with Echo Packs for an easier price. I mean, Echoes are upgraded costumes after all.
-Definitely. I mean, we saw Tournament Mode last time.
-Of course. I purchase DLC because they work hard to make new content. I feel they deserve to be compensated for their work.

My gripe with it is that people are liking it and saying it's well tought (it isn't) just because it predicts 8+ newcomers, which is beyond unreasonable.

The Smash subreddit will crash and burn at the final reveal regardless of whether the box theory is real or not, they're fully expecting not just more characters than that, but also a fully-fledged story mode like SSE at the same time. It's a scheduled train wreck at this point.

It was a level 4 in Saitama and a level 2 where I am at. It wasnt that big from what I can tell thankfully.

Blog theory though is pretty silly.

We're not guaranteed 3 veterans a week, that's just the norm that they've stuck to for awhile to get as many done asap.


Like, we've had weeks where we got 4, and we've had weeks where we got 2.


My opinion is:



As is, we get a single blog post a week going over stuff from the previous Direct.

If it gets to the point where the next Direct has a TON of info, especially on Spirits, I could see them reducing the vets to two or even 1 a week, while giving the Direct more emphasis, especially when release day gets closer.



But mostly I find it stupid because it more or less promises 7~8 MORE characters at he current rate of 3 a week.


That ain't 'a few'.

Yeah, he didn't get K.Rool, but I have a haaaaaaard time imagining he didn't hear of 7-8 other characters unless a majority of those are Echos.

I'm hoping a bit more than last time, especially since there is no second version to worry about and Sakurai isn't pressured to get everything done for the next project due to a sinking ship. Hopefully we get at least ten.

Probably the Square character if they aren't base game.

I guess Banjo Kazooie, and maybe Sora if he made it in.

I'm really hoping for Level-5 to be involved this time around.
I'd imagine Microsoft and Ubisoft may be included too.

I feel like DLC is the most suited for Third Party since negotiations seem to be a bit easier to handle there, so I'm hoping that Sakurai focuses a bit more on third party characters. Plus there aren't that many Nintendo characters left that I'm overly invested in, nor think the few that I do want are particularly likely for DLC anyway.

• Who would you like to see as DLC?

Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright are my top priority for DLC, if they made it in, I will never ask Sakurai for anything ever again!

• How do you think DLC will be structured?

Probably the same way as last time, although I'd imagine we will have new content sooner as Sakurai doesn't have to test any waters for interest again like he did with Mewtwo. He knows it will be popular.

• Will characters be sold in packs or separately? Will there be a season pass?

They might be sold separately, though I can see echoes being sold in packs though.

• Do you think we'll get more than just characters and stages (maybe more Mii Costumes, or a new class of purchasable items)?

Probably yes, besides Mii costumes I hope we get more proper alternate costumes too. I'm still waiting for my Toon Link lobster shirt and conductor outfits...

Can't think of any

Probably not, though I can see him expand on the "Spirits mode" whatever that is with new locations and bosses and whatnot, but that's probably as far as it goes. I do hope they update stuff like Stage Builder with new tools and features though.

Of course I will, I will continue to support it for as long as It's active.

Something tells me they will only support DLC for a year though I do hope they will keep it up for at least a year and a half...

I seriously hope Sakurai continues to support Smash Ultimate during the entire lifespan of the Switch, but even I know that’s improbable.

I wonder if they’ll do “seasons” like what Street Fighter, Tekken, and other games do.
