You know, I was thinking about this and I jested about it before but, what if the box does ship like that? Like, what if that's just how the box looks?

Now I'm fully confident they're going to add Isabelle onto there, I mean that's kind of obvious, but what if that's all the box gets? It seems ridiculous but what if that's the box? It would leave one blank space on both sides and that seems just as plausible to me as having two characters fill out those spots.

I dunno. The Box theory is kind of boring to me because of its attention to something so small that to a lot of people spells out the grand finale in such a disappointing way. We'll see where the theory goes but I'm staying incredibly neutral on it but I will say that I think there are a few people who believe thus thing TOO much. To the point that any other points brought up against the box are shot down immediately because, well, box. Whatever, though, either way speculation isn't as fun as it was. I'm ready for DLC more than ever.

I'm starting to get why some are taking a little break from this thread until we get the news from old Vergey.

For me, at least, technically not taking a break, just not responding to anything boxy (wanna give the censor a break). Also, I feel like Verg has a habit of saying he'll look into something, but not really getting back to it, outside of Incineroar. So, I'm just waiting for the next Smash Direct, which will be October 3rd to put me out of my misery and confirm my own tots-scientific numerological calculations. Or an announcement of that rumored N64 mini so I could analyze the crap out of it, which if it's coming this year, should probably be announced soon (well, really going by past precedent should have already been revealed by now).

Yes, this box theory is quickly becoming a "gatekeeper" mindset and it's making speculation not fun anymore...

I keep reiterating this, but no matter where you stand on the box theory, remember that are essentially completely new characters resource wise, and will still probably take more resources then your typical returning veteran, especially if they're getting decloned at all. That's why Sakurai wanted us to lower our expectations, not just so he can "troll" us.

It amazes me how little this is brought up.

I dunno, just a hunch. Not saying he won't try, but I believe there had been cases where he said he'd look into something, and I don't recall him ever getting back to them. Don't have any specific examples, except this, where he mentioned looking into the Direct contents but never got to it, while also saying he didn't hear about the Direct date confirmation in time. Maybe it's not a pattern of behavior, but perhaps I was a bit too anxious around that time about the Direct that I was waiting for his response.

I think Belle vs Riddles is the matchup we're all really excited for. Although its hard to imagine a heavyweight like Ridley making it to EVO Finals, so I guess Riddles has a lot of obstacles to overcome if he wants to be top tier due to his size.

Basically what I'm saying is that Ridley is too big for competitive Smash.

Yeah, this is the kind of mind set that's really bumming me out. People can't want more without someone jumping down their throats over it. It's all speculation man, if he thinks we're going to get more characters more power to him, there's no reason to go off on a tangent on him just because he's got a different outlook.

In any case, so far we have 5 newcomers.

I think we have 3-5 more newcomers left. Even though 4 or 5 may seem a lot more to some of you guys, it still puts at either single digits with 9 or barely breaking into double digits at 10. It’s still LOW from previous games. Brawl had 18, Smash 4 had 15 (Base). Which is 5-8 less new characters than before.

Sure, they have a whopping 100 stages and brought all 63 characters back. But one thing I think gets overlooked is the fact that the reason why any of this was achieved is because this game has the LEAST drawbacks of any Smash game. We don’t have a massive mode that easy up time like Brawl, we don’t have to worry about two consoles like Smash 4, and we DEFINITELY have a lot more time than Melee. Ultimate has the smoothest development of any Smash game and is why Bill Trinen said that Sakurai wasn’t even stressed out as everything was going according to plan. The man doesn’t have to break himself this time as he has a full 2.5 years of development and nothing to really show him down.

It’s one of the reasons why I think we may get a little more than we think. Yeah, 10 newcomers for this game may feel a lot more than we thought, but it’s still significantly fewer than previous Smash games, especially with the tons of pessimism going around. Not to mention that echoes are a thing to include even more newcomers, albeit identical clones which is why they don’t really count, but they are trying to add a lot more with the time they have.

So I don’t think Ken and (Insert) Gen 7 Pokemon are really the last ones, especially with echoes, I think they’re few more left to show.

I did make a Incineroar moveset a while back.

Neutral Special: Throat Chop
Incineroar leans back and holds his fist back he charges this, and upon release, stomps forward and slams his unfurled claws outward as a beam of fire erupts straight from his palm. Simply knocks opponents back if not fully charged, but if fully charged, crumples them.

Side Special: Darkest Lariat
Incineroar channels energy in his fists as he charges this move up, and when released, begins a rapid lariat with his arms extended. Goes quite far, and is great for off-stage recoveries.

Up Special: Fury Swipes
Incineroar swipes upwards rapidly, so quickly and viciously, that it propels him into the air! Quick and juggles opponents upwards if caught, but has a small hitbox. Has decent horizontal height, but practically no vertical height.

Down Special: Scary Face
Incineroar hides his face as you charge this move, and when released, flashes opponents in front of him with a terrifying expression, stunning them and allowing Incineroar to go in for extra hits.
