Technically, Master Hand would be the first original Smash character. Roy is just the first playable one.

I'd argue Captain Falcon is Smash's own character. People know him from Smash more than they do F Zero.

I don't think that matters at all. If there's not a character worth adding, then it really doesn't matter how popular the game is. You need a character that would be popular and bring something completely new.

The only option from Breath of The Wild is a newcomer that would be the spirits of all the champions together. Cuz, having only one of them doesn't seem like an option to me.

If I’m being honest I don’t even see a BotW character getting in...

Maybe Impa. Big maybe.

You guys could be right. Especially if it is a upgraded port......

But if it is Smash 5, I think there is a better chance we might see some representation. However, whether that takes the form of a BotW Link (Clone or not), Champion(s), or BotW Ganon character, I cannot say.

The way I look at it, Sheik (despite being Zelda's alter-ego) had one outing (at the time and not including the more recent Hyrule Warriors) from arguably the previously best received Zelda game and she became a mainstay. Fast forward and now BotW comes along and is received in a way that no Zelda before it has been. From a marketing standpoint, it would seem foolish not to have someone or sometwo in this next game (if it is brand-spanking-shiny-new).

This is all of course speculation. I'm just trying to iterate why I think there is a chance for it.

One question though, how long did it take for Brawl's version of he site to switch from the one with the 5 newcomers to blog format?

Uh... I want to say... April 2007 was when they kicked off the pic-o-teh-duh. They're probably going to wait until E3 to start because we already know we're going to get at least a dozen veteran reveals right off the bat and probably one or two new comers in typical Smash fashion.

That doesn't make him the first playable OC. He debuted in games before that. He's an original moveset, but we're talking about the actual character themselves. Roy fits the bill the most due to technicalities otherwise.

Falcon is just more known for being in Smash.

Change or update almost everything. The change to his BotW appearance is a good start; he’s right-handed already.

Same goes for most of the roster, especially veterans like Mario and Donkey Kong.

BotW!Link here already puts the rest of the Zelda reps in awkward positions, especially Sheik and Ganondorf since neither one made an appearance on BotW. It’s the whole SS scenario all over again. I mentioned the HW designs because those designs are the most recent ones that have Link, Zelda, Sheik and Ganondorf in the same “universe” and they’ve very good designs. It would be a waste not to use even one of them. The synchronized TP designs for Smash worked fine until Smash 4 came out and they still had the same old TP designs instead of SS mainly due to Ganondorf and Sheik not being in SS. De-synchronizing the designs would be a better solution in the long run as it allows them to represent more games and they don’t have to request for original designs like Sakurai had to do with Sheik during Brawl’s development just so she wouldn’t be out of place. The same could be applied to ZS Samus and normal Samus.

Shiek was kinda in BOTW as the form of an alt costume for link so shieks apearence would have no problem being updated. the only problem would be with ganondorf, as he wasn't a gerudo in BOTW. I think its possible that the team could design ganon in a way that fits the botw theme just like they did in brawl with shiek because shiek wasn't in twiighlight princess

None. Those characters deserve better than being Easy-Bake clones. We’re in the era of DLC and post-launch updates. No need for these microwaved tactics. If they have any characters they’d like to add, they can always try to add them later with proper development time.

Hey everyone! New Smash Bros yaaaaaaaay! (I've been like a kid at christmas the last day or so)

I see the speculation has begun, which is always fun :D

I'll just chime in with wanting Zelda to have a BOTW design since Link is clearly getting one, and I personally love how she looks in BOTW ^_^

Don't really have any roster wishlists this time around. I mean part of me still wants Shantae but I feel like that's just extremely wishful thinking at this point...

We don't have a lot of options for WTF additions. TBH, what I am thinking about right now is Brain Age or Nintendogs getting playable representation, but I still kinda doubt it. Do you guys think Chorus Kids would act as WTF additions? Considering the moveset potential and the idea of chorus kids fighting, perhaps that could be the WTF choice. But maybe Sakurai is fully aware that we would not be fully surprised by Chorus Kids due to the leaks back in Smash 4. So I am not sure.

Then I'd say Toon Zelda. I think her only chance is as a clone.
Other things I want is Roy's Smash 4 less-clone moveset and Ike to look more like in Brawl.

Yeah, the blue dress would ideal for Smash, especially since her normal BotW outfit doesn't look very princess-ish.

Honestly, I'm fine with any of the three outfits Zelda uses in BotW (traveling outfit, royal blue dress, and ceremonial white dress). In an ideal world we'd get all three, but I'm not crossing my fingers for that. I might even be getting ahead of myself by saying the BotW design will even be used for Zelda (seems likely, but nothing is confirmed just yet)

If their The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild incarnations mean that Link and Zelda are getting revamped movesets, I feel that Toon Link and Toon Zelda should be in to preserve their older movesets.

The “kinda” factor is a dealbreaker for me. While a costume based on BotW!Link’s Sheikah costume could be used, that still has to be drafted. Ganondorf could have a BotW-esque design based general Gerudo warrior armor with bits of Guardian armor but that could also mean the return of the Falcondorf moveset which...has overstayed its welcome. I wish they didn’t have to go for “original” designs” just to make sure the Zelda characters are “synchronized” to a degree. I’d gladly take the classic OoT designs if we aren’t getting HW designs for those two.

You know. I think a Pilot Wings character, Doshin the Giant or something like Diskun could be great WTF characters.

The model used for Melee was actually the Space World 2000 model from the 3D Link VS Ganondorf “fight”.
