I’m saying I’d want her added again, but given how loudly and how many people complained about her and Dark Pit, Im expecting her to be demoted to a costume as she originally was planned to be.

Because of BotW's critical reception. Is was so widely accepted and praised, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a character or representation for the new game. Nintendo is pushing Switch hard and a game as big as Smash will likely showcase their new, best, and brightest junk.

Even if we don't get a new Legend of Zelda character, some of the newest characters can always hope for Assist Trophy roles. For one idea, Mipha could fully negate the knockback of any attack that could end up KOing the player who released her, and then she would fully heal that very player along the way.

I doubt Sakurai would listen to a vocal minority, especially when Lucina is one of the most popular FE characters, meaning there'd be more backlash against her being reduced to a mere costume.
I mean, I'm still salty about Alph's situation and he was never a separate character or an actually popular character so imagine how her fanbase would react.

That would be interesting but we’re most likely going to get just texture swaps on her default outfit. Smash is always kinda shy when it comes to actual alternative outfits. Heck, even with hair color for the color swaps.

I would imagine that, since she's already been playable, she'll never be demoted to a costume. I could see her getting Falco treatment in the upcoming title, or perhaps held off for DLC with a completely revamped moveset.

Her concept of being “Marth for novice players” hurts her. She’s this awkward character that tries to be Marth and Chrom at the same time (Marth-inspired looks with Chrom’s fighting style...except in Smash where she’s a Marth clone).

Well, there would be backlash regardless of action or lack of action. She was originally intended to be an alt for Marth so that would probably be much better for her fans than having her being “cut” completely in a future Smash game.

I don't understand all the hate for clones (other than Dark Pit and Doc in 4, who are both hot garbage). People seem to largely be talking about it like it would be better for them to not be in at all rather than clones.
It makes especially little sense for Lucina, since she's basically been killed by armchair statisticians who don't understand the practical result of how her redistributed hitbox strength works.

Well aside from the Inkling, I can only think of a rep from Pokemon Sun and Moon, a character from Xenobalde 2, and Bandanna Dee. I'm not sure if I'm missing anyone.

Fossil Fighters is a first part nintendo series and would be super unique and interesting, being that either its a dinosaur or hes a pickaxe user.

It was an older game on the DS, I only really remember it from an old TV commercial on cartoon network when I was a kid.

Actually, that’s what Sakurai originally intended for Chrom but it didn’t work out as well as he thought.

@Shishœ : I meant in-game Awakening lore. There’s even a cutscene where Chrom asked then-masked “Marth” who taught “him” to fight and “he” mentions “my father!” since Chrom instantly recognized the fighting style. I’m aware of the Awakening battle animations. And then we have the whole Viridi thing mentioning that Chrom would be too similar to Ike which...actually wouldn’t have been so bad at all. At the very least the clone distribution would have been somewhat even instead of Marth, “Marth for Novice Players” and “Fire Marth 1.5”.

It wasn't shovelware, but it was like if the excavation mechanic from Gen 4 was the only way to get Pokemon.
Since it was mostly concerning stone rather than dirt, at the very least it was drillware.
