As much as I love BotW Link's design, I doubt they'll remove one of the most recognisable designs in the history of gaming.
Classic Link is most definitely staying as the default costume, it wouldn't be like Sakurai to do otherwise.

I'm sure you guys are right . Just baseless worries from me hahahaha.

I doubt Sakurai will change one of the most recognisable designs in gaming history to a new one that's just in one game. It's just not like his design philosophy at all.

As to why he showed up in the trailer like that? I don't know, probably just to say "hey, we have some other new stuff too!". Mario never got a costume swap as big as Link did in BotW and putting him there with an Odyssey outfit would just be out of place.

Doesn't really matter if BotW Link is the default costume IMO as long as the classic outfit is still there.

Eh personally I don't care for Link enough to care if him being in his The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild incarnation alters his moveset or not. He could be 100% revamped for all I care.

If they end up going that route, keeping Toon Link around and having him use the traditional Link moveset seems the most ideal outcome.

I'll have to agree with Rocket on this one. The Green Tunic will be there most definitely. One sneak peak of a trailer doesn't tell us whether or not they'll push the Breath of the Wild design for marketing but if they do they'll definitely have tunic Link as an alt at the very least.

Ive seen people suggest so many times that Toon Link get a move set change to differentiate him from Link.

I kinda feel we might get that differentiation now, but in reverse, with Toon Link retaining his moveset and Link (or at least, his grab and specials) being given a thorough reworking. And I'm thoroughly OK with that.

(And ofc Link isn't about to lose his classic design it will still be an alt at bare minimum)

I'm actually fine with this. I always felt that Toon Link was alright the way he was whereas Link was the one that needed some more work done since his current playstyle hasn't really been working out too well for him. So if that's the case, I'll be interested to see what they have done with him.

No ****ing way they'd rush a Smash Bros. game. If they want a good standing with this community, they'd never rush it.

I mean, I know Nintendo and all of it’s other developers would give Sakurai exclusive insight into future projects. Like how he knew about Greninja before X and Y came out and all.

I guess we will just have to wait and see. I don’t think they’d rush it either, but none of us are 100% sure.

I wonder if Sakurai does know about the new Pokémon, Metroid, and/or Fire Emblem? Maybe even other new IP. What do you think?

Exactly this. Wario's Biker outfit is not even close to being as iconic as his purple overalls and yellow cap, yet they still went with that design so they could emphasize his connection with the WarioWare series.

Having BotW Link as the new design is a nice change that I can appreciate, as we've been stuck with the TP designs for two Smash games. And to make it clear, I still think Link will have his more traditional look as an alt. It's not like I'm saying the green cap is gone forever now that BotW Link is here.

Some other things to think about to everyone who is worried about this game being rushed:

Melee- Was developed in roughly 10 months with Sakurai taking only a handful of days off because the Gamecube's launch schedule was so comically anemic.

Brawl- Was developed in about 25 months because it hit multiple snags with 1. Nintendo realizing people were probably going to fly to Japan to kill them if Sonic didn't make it in and shoehorning him in the game in the summer of 2007 2. Nintendo's Wifi at the time basically being the gold standard of godawful wifi.

SSB4- Was developed in about 30 months and was split between two games on two different platforms with two separate teams but with many of the same supervisors for both games including a platform that actually had less processing power than the Gamecube.

Smash Bash Cash Stash- Probably has no less than 20 months under its belt at this point (assuming it started at the end of SSB4's DLC at the absolute latest) and isn't likely to be released for at least another 7.

In short, this is probably the least stressed development that a Smash game has had in its almost 20 year history.

The leakers must still be smoothing out all the creases in their horrible fake rosters. xD

Whether or not it's a full port DOES matter. A port won't have nearly as much new content as a full-blown new game. Some is good, but more is better, right?

I mean, I see what you're saying, but at the same time, it's because I'm not seeing any fun here is why I'm complaining about this being the main subject.

They never would market one appearance if they weren't going to use it as the main skin, Wario being the main argument. Wario, Bayonetta, and Little Mac all have a important ''classic'' alt that is randomly swapped around as they appear in single player modes like All-Star, so it's not like the main skin isn't as big as a issue as the discussion suggests.

With tools BOTW Link has everything but a clawshot special attacks if they opt not to revamp him, so he'll likely be fine. I almost forgot about him having a boomerang since the more classic one is a low-tier weapon. I'd love them to take some risks though, like the did with Mario's down special back in Brawl. I've never really been a fan of his special moves being mostly projectile based personally, and a special that uses the runes seems a lot more fun.

BotW was pretty much Zelda's return to the mainstream (I mean, it was never gone, but it hasn't seen as much success as it used to since Twilight Princess), so they're probably want to push it as much as possible. And I'm more than okay with it, despite releasing like two trillion games since then, the Zelda series' representation in Smash has been almost completely static since Brawl. It could really do with an update.

The main instrumental theme on the menus, and a vocal rock theme that plays in the intro and on the main credits that appear after beating the story mode. The vocal theme could be a cover of Peter Gabriel's Games Without Frontiers with reworked lyrics to suit Smash (my ideal performer is 30 Seconds to Mars with guest vocalists Corey Taylor and Amy Lee).

Who the **** is Peter Gabriel? Why do you want this? Why would anyone want this? Do you think the East knows who Peter Gabriel is? My predictions: Breath of the Wild Link and Zelda, Hyrule Warriors Sheik and Ganondorf, and Toon Link as is. Another Zelda character that I could easily see becoming playable is Impa because 1. she's been with the series since the beginning and is in almost every major game and 2. Hyrule Warriors did well enough to warrant being released 3 freakin' times in 3 and a half years and Impa was basically one of the starring characters. Also, if this is the case, please, please, PLEASE let her use her the naginata instead of the surf board sized sword... Bandana Dee can be a short range spear user while Impa can be long range, eh?

Yeah, the blue dress would ideal for Smash, especially since her normal BotW outfit doesn't look very princess-ish.

Honestly, I'm fine with any of the three outfits Zelda uses in BotW (traveling outfit, royal blue dress, and ceremonial white dress). In an ideal world we'd get all three, but I'm not crossing my fingers for that. I might even be getting ahead of myself by saying the BotW design will even be used for Zelda (seems likely, but nothing is confirmed just yet)

1-Wario debutted in Smash like that. He didn't have one design for 4 games and then it was changed.
2-Wario's design is in no way at the same level as Link's
