Sakurai has always considered Mewtwo an antagonist in Smash, even before Melee.

That makes a lot of sense honestly, considering how much Mewtwo's moveset draws from the anime. Using Shadow Balls/Effects as one of his primary means of attack, having a deep, human voice, and floating around instead of running or walking...he's definitely based more heavily on the movie then the games, and I'm okay with that.

It always feels like there's an interpretation of a character for some of them. Like how Falcon's really much of a show off in Smash Bros while in the original F-Zero comic he's stoic and bad ass and in the story mode for F-Zero GX he's tired and doesn't really want to deal with bull**** but he's too afraid to look mean if he said no.

I prefer the antagonistic emphasis, actually.

There's the original movie's interpretation, but then Pokken made "Shadow Mewtwo" its primary antagonist. Coupled with the fact that Mewtwo is kind of an endgame boss for Red/Blue/Yellow and it's easy to see that he's supposed to be antagonistic in some regards to the player. He seems more menacing that way.

I think that's way too far in the future to even think about or consider right now.
Also, there isn't a theme with Smash Ultimate. The only one that you can really argue as of right now are that the characters in are primarily fan requested ones.
It just happens that some villains of the series are just highly requested.

Well, of course. It's likely that the next newcomer won't be a villain at all. Just humoring the possibility, is all.

It always feels like there's an interpretation of a character for some of them. Then there's Lucina, who's very humble and polite in Awakening but can be really arrogant in Smash Brothers.

I'd be fine with it if she just sounded disappointed, but those lines sound way too hostile when voiced. I actually don't like Smash's interpretation of Lucy.

to be fair with mewtwo at the time there were only like 2 main pokemon games, and it's hard for them to make a real pokemon villan character in smash unless they do a evil pokemon trainer with like a team leader (and i dont think they'll ever do another trainer even if brawl's one is back) or work out some weird way to make Mother Beast Lusiarme playable. Mewtwo's probably the closest thing you can get, even if it's not techincally correct, and doubly so when in the melee development period.

Smash Wii U DLC were wild times. Also slightly disappointing times, but that's just my opinion.

Honestly, it's feeling odd to see Sonic being ganged up by the Mario gang in Smash without much, if any, of his friends backing him up at this point.

The Packers and Bears rivalry hasn't been relevant in years, but fans still consider it a rivalry. Rivalries are fun, even if unwarranted and extremely one-sided.

I don't understand how people even entertained the idea of this being real.
The Smash team always ensures that the characters look on model compared to their in game counterparts. (Barring someone like Chrom given facial structure, but outside of that.)
This looks barely anything like how he does in any Rhythm Heaven incarnation, and it's supposed to be a 2D sprite/render of all things, which if anything, would be extremely easy to do compared to the more detailed work and effort that goes into creating a model.

I mean if you want to discuss a "well done" Karate Joe leak, talk about the files post. But even then, that fell into a lot of inconsistencies and bad designs.

Here's the problem, though.

-it looks the exact same-
"They just ripped the sprites; fake"

-it is different in any way-
"It's not the same; fake"

There is literally no way to handle Joe that people wouldn't immediately denounce it as fake.
At least changing things up (which tends to be done for all characters in Smash) makes it more "realistic" in my eyes than just literally being the same exact sprite from one of the games.

I don't see how you scream to the top of your lungs character you don't even know though. It comes across as inorganic without alcohol in the mix.

Anyone can be hyped about anything. I've been watching a lot of Metal Gear lore so is my hype worth less?
