A direct announcement, while very unlikely today, is not off the table. It could be announced in 16 minutes or in 1 hour and 16 minutes. Not impossible, just unlikely.

This is a list with all nintendo franchises that dont have Smash Rep.

Plenty of them are as big as Rhytym Haven.
TBH, more people talk about RH because of the rumor than because of the Series itself.

This post reminds me of how fun a Nintendo Land 2 in general would have been.
Kind of impossible with the Switch, but especially if they poured real time into it and made it into a full party game, it could’ve been one of their best.

Richter is apparently well known in Latin America, to the point where they don't know who Simon is but know who Richter is. I'd also move the Inklings to "Everywhere" with K. Rool and Daisy.

I think Isaac would be Europe. So he'd be in the "Often Western" category (there is Japanese demand for him, just not nearly as much as in Europe or America).

Bandana Dee would be "Often Japan", Geno would be "Everywhere".

"DQ Hero"/Erdrick would be "Mainly Japan".

If Agumon got in I'm not sure where he'd go, Digimon is still going in Japan, and Latin America loves it, it's seeing a slow resurgence everywhere else, so... maybe "Everywhere"?

Speaking of Isaac in Smash, I was thinking about how he'd be a rare sight in Smash. A Swordsman who doesn't use a Sword personal to them (Robin was the first).
have the Master Sword
have the Falchion
has the Binding Blade
has Ragnell
has the Monado
has the Buster Sword
has the Omega Yato

:ultrobin has the Levin and Bronze Swords, which anyone can wield.

Isaac'd probably use the Gaia Blade, but as a Golden Sun weapon it's hardly unique to him, Felix, Garet, Piers and Matthew can equip it too (it became locked to Matthew in Dark Dawn, but until then everyone who could use Long Swords could use it).

He could use the Sol Blade, which is exclusive to the Golden Sun main protagonists (Isaac, Felix and Matthew), but even then it's still usable by three people, two of which are unrelated to one another.

Technically anyone can use the Buster Sword, since it's just an ordinary sword with no special properties, but it's still Cloud's signature weapon.

If you are one of those guys who count Pit as a sword fighter, he can equip Silver Bow afaik.

I though Splatoon was more popular in Japan, but you're right, everywhere makes more sense. Eh, good old pattern recognition suggests that characters who aren't that popular outside of Japan will have hard time getting in.

In what world is Rhythm Heaven not relevant? It’s consistently been getting games since the DS (excluding Wii U), and it’s most recent game was 2 years ago,

In a World Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, DK, Kirby, Metroid, Wii Sports, Splatoon, FE and about 20 others nintendo Franchises that are BY FAR more relevant than RH.

RH is not a big deal. That dosen't make it impossible to hit Smash with a Rep dude.

E3 2014: Stayed up to watch it. But my laptop broke half way.

Cloud: I had only one class that day to teach in the afternoon so I spent the morning fangasiming. It was like Christmas. And the next day I went to America with my wife to attend my sisters wedding. So I watched it again when I arrived.

Corrin and Bayonetta: watched it in the morning while on my way to work. I stopped at a supermarket parking.

Smash Ultimate Inkling: randomly visited Smashboards to find out I was a mod again. That led me find the trailer.

E3 2018: went to bed at 10 and woke up at 1 to watch it on mute. Didn’t want to wake up the baby.

Smash Ultimate Direct: Watched it in Australia while working as a chaperone for our students study abroad trip. Had crap internet at the hotel and took forever to watch it fully. K Rool was spoiled for me on this thread after I went in safari intending to search on how to make internet in Australia go faster. But opening Safari made this thread popped up and the first thing I saw was “KING K ROOOL!”

9/7/2018: we never did see it but it was scheduled for 7 am here. Plus, I had an office day so basically I could spend some of my day speculating and hyping with the rest of you. Was planning to watch it in the office lobby while drinking some coffee and eating a doughnut.

So we've got a rumor for a direct for the 13th. The site is in English, so its probably Western 13th; Japan 14th...which means we're back to a Thursday direct again. Hopefully we'll get some kind of announcement either later today or tomorrow. If it was an exact week later, chances are the announcement will mirror the same time as the first.

I kinda wish other systems or genres could do their own version of Smash Brothers without totally crapping the bed like Sony did. I bought PASBR hoping it would be good, but that stupid battle system where a Special was the only way to get e KO was ridiculously stupid. I use to juggle and beat the ever loving garbage out of people with Heihachi, but if you whiff on a special, you had to build up the meter all over again! It sucked! What a waste of potential....

Jump has a good thing going with their whole anime-themed fighter too, but the mechanics just seem wonky to other fights. I understand wanting it to be more of an arena fighter, but couldn't you mimic another long running, popular fighter you have? Like Ninja Storm, if you're not going to to a Smash style battle?

Well...rant aside...let's play a game. Create a new Smash Brothers-inspired Game with the following rules:
*20 Characters Max
*Smash Brothers Battle Style
*Summoning Optional (Pokeball/Assist Trophies)
*Themes can be: Sony, Microsoft, Sega, Anime, Specific Game series (like Final Fantasy, Wild Arms, or Tales Of...), Comics, or Movies (Non-Superhero)
*A max of 3 'Guest' characters outside your chosen Theme allowed

Just to throw out a quick idea/example, here's a Final Fantasy themed one
1) Cloud
2) Tifa
3) Sephiroth
4) Terra
5) Locke
6) Celes
7) Kefka
8) Squall
9) Rinoa
10) Seifer
11) Ultimecia

Do fans of Isaac or Golden Sun hate Rhythm Heaven or something? I have never seen this until this was brought up. Isaac is one of my most wanted right now and no one in that thread has complained about Karate Joe or the Chorus Men.

Rhythm Heaven is a great series. I can see it going like this during a regular conversation.

Them: idk man, rhythm heaven seems kind of small
you: so is isaac's game
Them: who is isaac again?

I wasn't saying it against Isaac supporters. Just someone who said RH was too itreleveant for a character. Meanwhile Isaac is one of the most predicted characters since the last direct and his series is defintely not relevant.

I'm also not say relevancy has anything to do with a character getting in (especially in Ultimate). In fact that's kind of my point. If Isaac is one of the "most likely picks" then there's no reason a rhythm Heaven Character can't get it.

Basically my point was against faulty logic. Not haters.

I'm not saying that I dont want or I wont like a RH character. It will be great to have one. I'm just saying that this is not a relevant franchise.

People should be able to make a differentiation between relevance and desire.

How is it not relevant? Once again it's more relevant than series getting in (Castlevania), characters getting in (King K. Rool) and some of the most predicted characters (Geno & Isaac). It's way more relevant than any of those.

Relevancy clearly doesn't matter this time around, in fact I'd say popularity and fan demand matters more and so if you're point was RH wasn't popular enough, then hey at least that's a point worth arguing. But the series is way more relevant than what's being talked about in this current speculation period.



All this and I'm not even a fan of Rhythm Heaven lol.

Even though, as mentioned, some don't fit perfectly, and technically the Octoling used is Agent 8, and not one of the villainous Octolings.

Toon Zelda, Toon Sheik, Dixie and Alph all were at one point or another intended to be in a Smash game as playable characters as well, but were haven't seen any sign of these in Ultimate with the exception of Alph who still remains an alt costume despite how relatively easy it would be to promote him in Ultimate. Being planned for Smash 4 does not at all guarantee they will be playable in Ultimate, especially since the roster direction for Ultimate is dramatically different from Smash 4's.

Why are people underestimating this guy lately? Bandana Dee is extremely popular as well, and he was definitely more popular than Skull Kid during the ballot. Don't see why people should get upset over his inclusion other than just not liking him as a character.

Seeing how popular he is, I wouldn't go about sleeping on his chances either, however I'm more interested in having Fjorm as spear user than Bandana Dee considering she can also has an ice element affinity. But yeah if he makes it in, it's nothing but congratulations out of me for his fans.

2 hilarious things stand out to me in there. One is that Little Mac's 'Villain' is Glass Joe and the other is Waluigi riding what I assume to be Rathalos lol. Other than that, yeah, Bad guys always have the most interesting designs to help make them stand out for one reason or another.
